    Bossk Progress Thread

Finally got some pictures to show progress.

I haven't sculpted much reptilian scale detail into these at all yet, but I just wanted to get the basic form down before I put all kinds of tiny detail into it.
After reviewing reference pictures I plan to give the middle claw a more triangular shape like the ESB claw should be.

Feel free to post comments, criticism, or constructive criticism.

Amazing work !!! I love it, I'm dieing to see it finished...

Are you planning to make the feet and head ??? (I think the most hard to match would be the head... I havent seen any great head so far).

Also... what will be the final material ?

    Very well done !!!

It'd be great if I could make them up in foam latex, but I don't know if I can do this as I don't own an injection gun myself. I've used it before with great results, for a puppet class at school I sculpted a Labyrinth style creature and made the final product foam latex. The guns were supplied by the instructor so I wouldn't have access to them now. The puppet was great though, real life like, and it had a full wire armiture inside for posing.

I really like that stuff, but if I end up not using it I will probably go with a brush on latex or use one of smooth-on life casting rubbers.

I was just thinking the other day about what new costume I wanted to do. I thought: "Bossk would be cool, but how would I do it?" Wow. You have done an incredible job on the forearm and hand. I'll be watching this thread closely.

Are you just going to make the arms normal Length? It would be way way to hard to rig something up to move the hands I think, plus who would notice.

Your work looks excellent! The only suggestion I have is to shorten the length of the middle finger by making the end digit connected to the claw shorter. It looks just a little too long. And the side fingers (thumb and pinky?) were a little more uniform looking in the ref pics I have. They were a little more similar in size to each other. Great job overall though.

    Re: Bossk Progress Thread

That costume from the Movie actually looks pretty unrealistic in the arms, maybe its just his posture or something. I have a feeling Lucas doubted this character (much like Fett) would ever really be noticed by fans. I think it would be cool if your costume took this movie prop setup and expanded it, making it look alot more "realistic" if you will. That head's gonna be tough to make thats for sure....

I life casted my forearms up to my wrist to start this sculpt off, so I'm hoping the final product fits well.

Since there are only 3 digits on the claw to work with I'm hoping they won't look too goofy when my hands move inside

Yeah, that's what I was talking about in my first post. I'm in the middle of a decision of accuracy vs. functionality. If I go exactly with the movie pics, it's going to be like an aquaman oven mit because I doubt the actor could move his fingers. I'm going to make the middle finger more of a triangle shape, but I might alter the digit lengths a little bit, so that anyone who puts these on can orientate their fingers into a 'spock' hand and be able to actually move in these things

How much more cowbell does it need?

Seriously now, it's been bugging me last night about the shape of the middle digit and after seeing the other responses I needed to start fixing it. Still no detail in the forearm. I want to get everything smooth and set before I start some ridiculous scales. If I learned one thing from 5 semesters of drawing and anatomy it's that no matter how detailed something is, if the proportions are off it's going to look wrong.

    I think it's getting there.

It looks like agood start... from what I've noticed, it look slike the actor's hands don't even come to Bossk's wrist... Bossk has very long arms. Also I've always thought it looked like both the left and right Bossk arms were tha same. In other words, there would only be one mold and both the left and right are the same cast... anyway, just my 2 cents

Now that I look at them, it's very possible. The end fingers don't have any definite pose to prove they are right or left.

They were lazy with a lot of other things, like how many people believe only one shoulder bell mold existed for stormtroopers because of that curve on the end. If this is the case I may alter the hand to go either way, if no one would doubt the accuracy. No point in doing a run of these if people won't be happy with them.

I think you just about nailed it in the last pic there bro. Only thing I was wondering, are there slight "webs" , (like a frog) on the original hands??? In most pics, it almost seems as if there might be. I'm sitting here with my gentile giant bossk sculpt. This thing definately has webbing in between the fingers!!!! Just somethign to think about Again, looking awesome!!

I do have some webbing in there now, hard to tell from a straight on picture. I will expand it once I even out the fingers. I'm thinking SaxeCoburg is onto something when he brought up the point that there might just me one hand design for both arms. I will probably go this route, simply because it gives me more time to put detail into the arm, than it would if I sculpted two seperately. Plus, it will keep the cost down, because I won't need two seperate molds (and any of use who make stuff know, silicone isn't that cheap)

I've got a fever, and the only remedy is MORE COWBELL BABY!

I think you've done a great job, great overall improvement. According to my ref pics the left and right are the same. If your hand was in the glove basically you would group your 3 fingers (index, middle and ring) into the middle Bossk finger with your own thumb and pinky in the side fingers. This way you could handle your blaster and do other things. Good work, this project is great!

    Hi,
I used a black imitation leather for the black vest.

The white flak vest is made by Phil Falter,

here´re some links of his finished vest:

Hi, I cut out the latex eyes of the mask and replaced them with sunglases. And yeah, I can see through it.
Here´s a pic with the original eyes and my old mask....

Great work on your Bossk!! I too am working on one myself. I have a head, arms and hands that I was lucky enough to stumble across on Ebay. I am now in the process (in what little free time I have) to alter them to my liking. It looks like you started with the same mask i did! I am also now seeking to create the entire outfit to go with it. Flight suit and flak vest isn't a problem. All the bits and pieces that go on it are quite another story. I'll have to mold most of them from scratch I guess.

I have one question, do you, or anyone, know where to attain a Schermuly Anti-Riot Gun? A replica of it, or at least something similar to it to work with? I've searched and searched and come up empty.

Sorry, I spelled it wrong. Schermuly.

It's an anti-riot gun that shoots gas cannisters for crowd control purposes. I'm not sure if they're still in service or not, but it is a purely police/SWAT issued weapon, not available for commercial markets, so there probably are very few of the things floating around out there.

The Schermuly is the gun used as a basis for Bossk's Rebley grenade launcher. In fact, the only additions are two M40 scopes (which are easy as pie to find) and some sort of doodad on the end of the barrel which is super easy to fabricate.

I think I have one of your old masks. I will be repaining it though.

    Nice.

I like the resculpt on the hand.

I was always under the impression that the ESB hands were the same on both side (a real time saver, eh?). I missed who said it earlier up top, but his arms are really long in the movie. If you look at the distance between a human shoulder and elbow, then elbow and wrist, you'll notice they are pretty similar. On most people anyway. Then look at the pictures and make the same comparison on Bossk.

    Go-go Gadget forearms.

If Trandoshans were real beings somewhere, I don't see how evolution would have their arms like that. No opposable thumb, super long forearm, I wish the creature designers had just given Bossk a more human arm. It doesn't even look like they could blow their noses. They'd need an extra elbow on their arm.

Oh WOW, I just realized how old this thread was.......

    Meesa embarassed...
