Bo Katan Request for suggestions on gauntlets

Hi everyone,
I have a slight problem with shaping some gauntlet caps to the gauntlets. The pictures will probably be able to explain the issue better than I could do with words but basically, it seems like the gauntlet caps' sides aren't long enough to match the curve of the gauntlet. It seems like if i keep grinding them out so that the sides come down and meet the gauntlets, I will have worn all the way through the fronts.

Pictures are here;

Seems like the two options would be to cut slits out of the forward facing edge of the cap and "wrap" the edges in to meet the base OR glue extensions on the insides of the gauntlet caps, glue down and fill around the base.

Suggestions? Has anyone run into this before?

Ohhhhh....I'm sure I'll be looking at exactly the same thing this weekend. I'm sure that Kevin will jump in and let us know what to do.

Thanks for the input, TK6682. The problem with that approach is that the arch will reach the horizontal surface above it before the sides meet the gauntlet base, leaving that "plate" to just lay flat on top of the gauntlet. As it is, I've already cut into the wrist blade hole making the entire thing not accurate.

I actually ran into the same exact problem mounting the holsters onto the thigh pieces. Once the thighs were wrapped to meet the legs they were going to be worn on, the holsters wouldn't come close to fitting.

FWIW, I don't think there is a quick solution for this. What I'll probably end up doing is the first of the two suggested fixes I proposed at the end of the original post. That is, cut wedges out of the facing side (side with the wrist blade port), and curl the gauntlet cap sides in to meet the base. Not ideal but meh..

Thanks again for the suggestion and though TK6682!

The main arm tube piece looks ovoid/oval in the pictures. ... I suspect you've actually trimmed both those sides too much meaning that the gauntlets are now oval, not round as they probably are meant to be. If it was round the top cap would not have this issue. The sides would meet the tube correctly The easiest solution is break the joints on the tube again and put in a small fillet piece top and bottom in order to make the gauntlet tube circular again as its probably meant to be ....if you put the fillet at the back the fronts can be filled in with Bondo and sanded.

Apologies if this solution offends or is a duplicate of another.

Hiya Archangel67 and thanks so much for the input and that's a really good point. The problem with that solution is, of course, that it would make the gauntlets too big. Well, I suppose at that point, all the excess size could be trimmed off the hinged joint basically removing that return edge that would give it a nice clean inside seam. I can post up some more pics to show but they are actually quite round now.. the angle of the shot is probably making them look oval there. Anyway, I definitely would not have thought there would be a specific joint between those two to cut excess out but, hey, you learn from your mistakes. Hindsight is 20/15.

I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that this kit is actually a Bo Katan / Pre Visla dual-purpose set. So, as it comes off the molds, it would be meant to be cut for large or thin forearms (same for the thigh problem). I suppose if I were to start over, I could go the route that you suggested and just hack all the excess size off the hinged joint and roll with it as an oval shape. It's just something I wouldn't have guessed would be a problem prior to assembling. At this point, I probably won't be redoing anything. Probably just look into upgrading to some of those high speed 3d printout gauntlets I see popping up here lately!

And if nothing else, perhaps this post can give others a heads up to this [potential] issue before doing their cutting, etc.

Anyway, I really appreciate the feed back on this one Archangel67! I hope I didn't sound ungrateful in my reply... just a little cranky I guess since I had to be the first one to run into this and post it up. Cheers!! :cheers

no worries i get you ..... i get cranky as well .... been to that place before! lol

my next 2 suggestions would be to

Option A - remove the top block (with keypad buttons?) from the top moulding and then follow the reverse plan and cut a fillet out of the lower portion front to back to bring the sides in buy say 8mm?

Option B might be a bit more radical but as this is a vac form if you were to cast resin into the existing top moulding you would get a perfect version of the original Vac-form former (male mould) that is smaller all over by the thickness of the plastic?... this might fit the arm better and in theory should be a sharper cleaner end result .... just remember to use a release agent like car wax. ....

Zihyer - I notice that you didn't cut the two seams yet. You actually end up with 4 pieces. If you look at ashbash's thread you'll see what I'm talking about. The gauntlets actually open.
