Bo Katan Bo Katan Suit Questions

Jr Hunter
Hi all. Pardon my noobness. In regards to Bo Katan's outfit, do you think its a flight/jumpsuit or could it be a unitard/body suit? I know its a cartoon but it looks very form fitting/snug. I was wondering if there was a consensus from the field on that.

Also, the armor/flak vest--what material would that be? Leather/pleather like Jango? Duck cotton? Other?

Thanks!

Warhawk i would have to agree with you on the bodysuit. Its not a jumpsuit. It more of a mock turtleneck body suit.
I would almost suggest you buy a white cotton L/S turtleneck unitard and matching leggings. Dye them both together with the gloves.
The vest, its hard to say but since its open to interpretation I'd say go with cotton twill.
It will be effortless and comfortable since its all cotton.

I'd say go for it. If I had more time I'd add it to my ever growing list of costumes. =)
Your biggest stumbling block is armor I'd think but I haven't vested much time into researching it.
Good Luck!

I am not aware of any Bo armor manufacturers other than the helmet. The one I have seen (its a WIP) was self manufactured and I think it looks great.

The suit looks like a dive type material. ala Zam. and she does not have a vest. She just has a double sleeves with the little blue edging.

And its a solid color, but the artist added smudges for weathering.

I too actually thought it could just be the extra sleeves like Boba and Jango... it'll be harder to do extra sleeves to a unitard, so I may still end up making a tight fit "vest" type tshirt that matches in color.

You know what guys, I looked it over and I think you're right. That would be difficult for a unitard I think. Tony, I think I agree. We might have to take artistic license and make it a two piece affair. How practical would it be to do a unitard long sleeve with a short sleeve shirt on top of the same material? The belt if done right should cover any lines of demarkation.

Also, her girthbelt is not behind her ammo belt. Its actually a bit lower. I dont know why the artists to this. Just freakjn put it right behind it like boba and jsngo.

It kinda hugs fhe hips instead of the waist.

The artists probably never wore armor. Think the girth belt could be a reduced size? How would you tackle the build?

Be aware: here come some crazed ideads that just float my mind.

The artists probably never wore armor.

This is a big problem iof every animated charackter in every franchise XD

But Bo for instance have some major issues for being drawn to quickly.
Like Filoni stated: Her Role was first set with a male DW-Lt. but then they decided to take a Women for that role.
Thats also the Reason why she had no Face in that Season - There was no time to make a proper one.
The Suit for instance has no clearly visible end at the shoes aswell. So maybe the sole is attached to the skintight strechsuit or the legs extend with an Uber-sized Spat that grabs the whole Boot.

But now for some creative input:

I guess if the custume-wearer has a "perfect" shape like the perfect animated charackter - some grey stretch-fabric like "under Armour" would do it. Who will look on the details of the fabric, when having a good looking A**? ;-)

Another Option: taking a grey Working suit and cut out some long triangles in the length of arm and leg. and then sew them together - but dont forget a zipper or velcro sealing at the end of the sleeves.

The Vest of Bo btw surprised me. because it is NO VEST! It has sleeves! So it is friggin T-shirt! XD

For the fabric i would assume Leather. It may look like its made of grey coal-smuged bricks in the animation (Well everything in TCW has an texture that looks like coal-smudged bricks in the first place XD ) -> but in fabricquestions i rather go with estaded Jango-Standards and say LEATHER. Maybe its just some raw, battelworn leather for Bo?

So i googled for a "T-shirt"+"leather" and well...
http://heycrazy.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/leather-tsirts-elle.jpg?w=600&h=849
there are some trendy leather shirts and tops for girls and I bet there are some grey ones too.
Oh and there are far lot more skintight leathershirts for fetish people and gay ones too.
So if some of you have a problem with that -> you have been warned.

And i take Jango-Standards again. I guess the bottom of the Armorplated Shirt gets just stuffed under the Girthbelt.

btw Girthbelt: Normaly its easy to find a Girthbelt in the right Size in the equitation-equipment for Male's with a stomachal size of 90-110cm and more (its for horse bellys normaly) but while googling it. Short Girthbelts with lentghts of 60-70cm are very rare.
So i would recommend to take a girthbelt with double the size of your stomach. cut them in the middle and make two Belt instead of taking a 90cm long and threw the 20-30cm away XD

The shoes could be Mando Crocs or Birkenstocks. Another thing I picked up on, call me Capt Obvious, her thigh plates/holsters are held on by two straps a piece. Would probably need something behind them to reforce/support them so the weight of the blasters wouldn't bring them down.

OBJECTION!

This is just an drafted artwork. In the Episode there is only one external strapping ;-)

But those Straps look cool but WONT work anyhow when dealing with weight. (Except if you stretch it that tight that you can amputate your legs)

The Deathwatch Holsterplates are the trickiest part of the Armor - here is why:
Your Upper leg is one of the biggest Muscles. It is slim when standing but grows thicker when sitting, or bending down. So if you dont intend to make the Plates out of rubber or any other elastic material -> you have to make your legplates with a little playspace for your muscles.

I used to attach my Holsterplate with Velcro. But that sucked major ba***ge. But i found an easier solution. -> invisible Elastic Strap! XD

I attached the Holsterboxes with metal-angles and screws once ... 2 up, one down.
So i took an thin elastic strap with the diametersize of my leg and attached it to the bottom of the plate (like the clear visible lower strap in the filoni draft) and a (5cm) thick strap that goes straight up to the waistline - where it is attached with Snaps right to the suit.
To make it invisible, just made some clean cuts into the suit to contrive the strap (like the straps of the kneeplates ;-) ) The Snaps ath the Waist got hidden under the ammobelt.

that way i can move myself and the plates flex with my body -> and nothing is more important then the abilty to move in your armor ;-)

he only thing i regret are the 2 meters of that ended up in the garbage can. XD

She should rename this thread the Bo-Katan costume info page.

Let's get all resources and get this whole costume done right.

Do you have some pictures of this? It sounds good. I'm a visual learner :)

I think with growing interest about this character, a dedicated page would be a good idea. Deathwatch Darling has a great build coming along.

I will make some pics when i find my camera.

just think on it like garter-belts. or like these holsters

only that the straps to the waist belt and over the leg are hidden under the suit ;-)

Good input on holster/thigh armor. Tony and I have also been batting around color. We've taken a look at a dye web site and wonder what folks think is the closest shade. I know for my part I have a hard time with colors/shades of color.

ColoRit Color Formula Guide | Rit Dye

The color groupings are on a bar towards the bottom of the page.

From the Neutral 1 family of colors I thought 349,351,and 390 were contenders.
From the Neutral 2 family of colors: 361
From the Blue/Green section: 215

Suggestions?
