Pictures of past builds that may help you get started.

New Hunter
Hi guys, great new forum for the HIC community. Things have sure come along way for the cabonite block since I first got sucked into this awesome prop a few years ago. I just have far too many photo's to repost them all here so I have my photo page links to my past builds to give someone interested in building one at least one way to go about doing it.

I have built and cast the parts for panels and greeblees, I will post my for sale links in the Cargo hold when my new member status is over and that becomes available to me. If you have any question feel free to ask. Good luck with your builds!

I agree! I couldn't have finished mine w/o the help of folks like Darth Chromer ( :) )

I made mine as a desk for my office - was privileged to share it through the 501st room at C6

Amazing! I'm certainly getting inspired to try my hand at this soon. Would you mind sharing how much it cost and how long it took? Thanks!

Sorry for delay in answering...if your question was meant for me in addition to D.C....

Budget initially was $1,000
Actual cost of materials (including glass & cast acrylic for desk use) was $2,000
Build time right at eight (8) months
Having this in my office...priceless :)

Thire, great to see the desk done. Great job on that, it looks awesome. I would definitely look forward to a desk job if that were my desk :)

Ghent, that particular block I did with wood, fiberglass, automotive paint and my panels, greeblees and electronics kit I make, we were probably in the neighborhood of $2000 materials. Now factor in well over 80 hours of labor time and you get the picture. Don't be discouraged by my cost. There are ways to cut it down and keep it in your budget. It is truly one of those props that you will have a hard time not staring at for hours and hours with a big grin on your face :)

I'm also pending my 'new member' status to get upgraded, and these are the types of post that got me out of 'lurker' status.

I simply cannot wait to undertake this project...I debated long and hard whether to tackle the HIC or an astromech build, and have decided that the HIC is the one for me!

Thanks to everyone that shares their WIP photos, methods, approaches and encouragement....it's truly appreciated!

I agree with all that have posted regarding this project costing more than budgeted and taking longer than planned. Once completed you will understand why Jabba said that was his favorite decoration. Here's a pic of my current progress. Not as nice as some I've seen on here. I didn't round off the edges for example. Full front pull by Stormrider, light kit by modeljag, panels and greeblies by Darthchromer.

It is an awesome prop to have in your collection. They are difficult to build, but way worth the time and money. You wont be able to stop grinning at it when you're done :D Good luck!

I just got Zenix's frame, and started prepping it up. But take it from me, this job is going to be easier than an Astromech. But it all depends on how many bells and whistles you wanted with an R2, such as electronics and whatnot. I got half way done before I had to sell it, due to financial issues a few years back. And trust me, I regret it still. It was a ton of prep work, but it is rewarding. Alot of talented guys on here that can help you. Dont get discouraged or overwhelmed. Enjoy, and post lots of pics when you start building.

Used Great Stuff gaps and cracks foam insulation to fill in Han and just trimmed back to level and it gives great support. Really solid once done.
