Official Commitment List: Han In Carbonite

Im sure you have all seen my progres thread, the HIC is ready to start shipping. Located here:

    http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f61/han-carbonite-rubber-33299/

Please read that thread carefully before asking questions, most have been answered there.

As originally stated it was to be between $300 and $500 shipped.

As of now, it looks like were looking at:

Front Flat Pours (No sides or boxes)
    $375 for BLACK SHIPPED US
    $400 for GUNMETAL SHIPPED US

Outside the us will be calculated by location.

It is possible to do the sides in the rubber too, but were looking at $200 more plus more shipping. (As of now, I have no electronic boxes to sell, but will work with someone to see if they want to vac form them. FP? You there bud? You want to do a run of vac formed boxes? I can make you an alum filled plug if you want).

If your going to just hang it on the wall or on a desk, buy the gunmetal, its very acurate. HOWEVER if your going to BUILD A FULL DISPLAY get the BLACK. It is cheaper, and will be much easier to paint. You wont be able to match the color of the gunmetal anyway,; black is better so you can paint the whole thing. Trust me on this.

Members here with few posts will need to have a verified address on their paypal.

Hard copies, can be purchased, but they cant be shipped. It will be local pickup only. Frontals at the same price. Full casts, with a foam backing for support around $700

Moving forward, please post here your interest and in what, and I will contact you with a PM for payment. I will tally the list here, and I will contact you the week your copy will ship. I do not hold money, accept down payments, or pre-payments.

If someone expresses an interest to buy, and I put them on the list, they should be ready for payment when I send the PM, else the next one on the list gets optioned.

I expect the mold to last for 10-20 pulls.

    3 are poured/spoken for.

    Thanks,
    SR

That is a VERY reasonable price! I'm sure it will be a very successful run.

I would like to buy a black one since I would like to eventually do a full build up. Saying that it is easier to paint up the black, what color/s would be needed to finish it up with the side, once those are done up?

The piece is uniformly a grey/black metallic. But it would be impossible to get the 'finish' uniform if you tried to match the box to the cast. Youll need to primer the entire piece, in order to get the proper finish.

The color and finish on the gunmetal is going to be next to impossible to match, and more to the point, paint doesnt stick well to it, because it bonds to the outer layer of the rubber, and creates a surface, for lack of a better way to say it, paint just doesnt like!.

So if I get the black will the paint stick to it? I realize I may have to primer the whole thing after it is all together, but I just want to make sure I'll be able to match the sides/boxes with the front when all is said and done.

Yes paint sticks to it. I use pactra paints. However, when you paint it, if you roll it up again it will crack. You need to lay it flat. if you want it extremely hard to the touch, youll want to back it with an expandable foam or other substance. Its very firm in places, and softer in others. It will hold its shape perfectly, but is still about the consistency of a rubber car mat in others (or it wouldnt bend to ship).

    Ok,

Looks like because of the size of this, the postage is gonna suck. But its not as bad as I thought.

    So, on a rough guess:

    Most of europe: + 40
    Most of canada: + 20
    Australia: + 60
    Austria: (looked up specifically) +40

The box is going to be 36 x 36 x 16 ish. Which most places dont like.

Itms will ship USPS or FedEx

    That is a big box!

Shipping companies work to volume and weight which ever makes them most money, and they have a celling on this too.

Yes, im going to cut them down to 28 x 28 x 12 which fits the smaller shipping. I have 4 pulled, gonna wrap one up tonight, and unwrape it sunday, see how the wrinkles turn out.

Those prices, are with us splitting the difference on shipping. Some will be a litle more, but ill eat the cost, its easier than charging, checking, mailing, re-billing, refunding.

Im going to have to start billing and shipping tomorrow/saturday, as im in this thing about 3k now and would like to get out from under it a bit

Re: Official Commitment List: Han In Carbonite

Would anyone be interested for about 50-75 more, for me to pour an 'inside the body, face, hands, groin' foam filler piece that would make the piece firm once put in for mounting. I would mold release it so its in parts shipped. But can be lightly glued in, and would make him rock hard. Each one would have to have a custom piece made for it.

You can of course do this yourself, for around $25 with expandable foam from the hardware store, you just ahve to be careful.

It will require some trial and error, and materials, an labor, but ive had a lot of mails asking for it.

You want the boxes for the sides, or are you saying you want a full rubber pull?

Im guessing 200 more for the sides and all, maybe a 100 more total on shipping. I dont however know how it will fold for shipping, so there may be a few creases if we go that way. I can take a piece of scrap rubber, put it in a vice for a day or two, and see what kind of wrinkles i get

This is of course a guess, and usually I guess high and lower it. I think most can attest for that

This is really nice. Thanks for going through all the trouble to put this together. I am interested in ordering one, but I am basically a very lazy guy and don't have the time I wish I had for a construction project to make an accurate box to contain it. Like Madrid Boba, I am interested in a full pull. If you are able to offer that, please name your price and put me on the list.

I will try to do the foam fillers this week.

I havent tried the full thing in rubber. It will require you to at the least, build an internal foam structure to hold it up. I know it wont stand on its own.

A sheet big enough to make one should be about 18 bucks at home depot though.

I again, ahvent tried to make a full one out of rubber, but ill give it a shot and see what happens.

Ok, shipping a couple of these a day for the next 3 days. My car can only hold 2 at a time

I had two of them boxed for 24 hours, and no wrinkling or anythying. I dont see a problem shipping them.

So if you paid, ill send you info for shipping as soon as it leaves.

Hard work:/ not much fun involved in this project, just lots of materials, and every mistake, is a Benji (us slang for 100 bucks) down the drain.

    Also ATTENTION:
UK shipping ended up being more than 80 more. And Australia is 100 more. Canada about what I expected. So heres the shipping breakdowns now. I apologize in advance.

    Most of europe: + 60
    Most of canada: + 20
    Australia: + 80

Its a big package. Fed ex wants 400

Next guys on list will be PM'd today.

Just wondering if there's a tracking number or whatever so as we can keep up on it. I don't want to not be home when it's due to be delivered. They may be special enough to send it all the way back! lol

If the run is still open, please put me down for a Front Flat Pours, GUNMETAL, shipped to Sweden.

Picked my HIC cast up Saturday. I'm completely satisfied with how this turned out. The rubber holds the shape well, very durable even folded up for transport, details look great, and Stormrider is a great guy to talk to and deal with. Two thumbs up!!! I also got a first hand look at his foam interior helmet details and they are uber soft and also highly detailed in person. I had to pick up a set of those!! Finally, his Webley cast looks great and I must confess I'm tossing around purchasing one of those too. I'm sure everyone who ordered one of his HIC's will be equally pleased. Thanks again to Stormrider for being gracious enough to let me swing out and pick it up in person to save on shipping.

I have two blacks to ship today, and one silver. Note its not gunmetal, its silver. (I used the wrong powder).

Its REALLY aluminum color silver. Ill post a pic after lunch, and see if anyone wants it thats paid, and then put it in the cargo hold if not. I havent seen it yet, I must confess. But I accidentally did the lower half of one in silver and it was REALLY shiny. Unbelievably so. It would make a great desk actually.

Ill be pulling one more silver today. So three of the 5 paid should ship.

    Ill update later today.

Update: This is very important. So read carefully please

I print from paypal, to ship. Its really important that the address in paypal is the right address. It provides a little protection for me, and it makes things a LOT easier.

Today, I had the post office send one of my han solos to IBM! Because I shipped it in a IBM box. A tech called me like "***?"

That one was bound for miama I havent looked yet who that is, but ugg, im hoping I can sort that out quickly.

The other, was one mailed to New york, in stead of BC. Which im sure is my fault.

Im working to get that straight.

Its just really important that the packages arrive. Becuase one or two packages lost in a project this size, can bankrupt it.

The one that went to IBM/CSC was the ONLY us pacakge without a delivery notification. Go figure right?

Ok, im going to go drown myself in the sink for a while.

Sorry for delay. I took it back out of the box today, and it doesnt have even a wrinke on it after being in the box for 3 days. Thats good news)

Well, heres one of the "good things", Ill chime in here and say that the HIC front is excellent. The pics dont do them justice and they will make AwEsOmE props. Rubber was definately the way to go with these. Cant wait to get started this winter along with my 2 mandos, and my TC armor.

Allright, recieved mine and...I'm stunned! Top noth quality, cast turned out great! Now starting building the box...and here are some questions that went up which may serve other members well:

Here's a quick'n dirty illustration done in MS Paint:

That includes the major questions I have on the box.

People who have seen the actual prop say, that it has rectangular shapes, pure 90 degree angles on the sides. Is this the case on the Illusive Concepts too?

Now leaving the sides aside (huh!) and looking at the top...is the top side 90 degree angled or is it trapeziod?

The bottom must be 90 degree angled because otherwise it wouldn't stand on its own, but the top seem to be angled in a trapezoid shape. Is this the case on the screenused prop and/or the Illusive Concepts?

I want to make my box as screen accurate as possible, plz forgive my ****** english since I'm not good in technical language and I'm a german native speaker.

There is so much confusion and no nailed facts about the box shape.

    Thanks in advance!!!

For anyone with HIC projects on the go and have the many questions that come with it: Go join the HIC builders club on Yahoo groups. Just fire
the moderator a short message and you're in. Most HIC questions will be answered here and its a good source for the other parts needed for HIC if you're not into scratch building everything. Us guys who are lucky enough to have a HIC front now and are thinking of a full build should start a thread here to bounce around ideas and share resources. Lets call it....
Building a HIC prop? Ill go create the thread and we can start sharing here on TDH. Thanks again SR for getting us started.

Re: Official Commitment List: Han In Carbonite

I have two 'seconds' that im going to put in the cargo hold. One is _thick_ but it has spots where its normal, which means the 'outer parts' dont lay perfect on a flat ground. Some tweaking when gluing it down ill need to occur, on the other hand, did I mention its THICK.

The other has two small blemishes in the silver, where the rubber is tacky. (two spots the size of a dime ish). If it were black, it would be sealed in, because its silver, you see them. If someone were to paint it, like a black one, it would be perfect.

It would be a good pull for someone wanting to make a full prop down the line, but wanting to display it for a while until then.

The thick one is over 20 lbs, which is 4 lbs heavier than a regular one.

    They are both silver gunmetal.

Ill sell them for the price of regular black ones.

375 shipped US. They can ship monday. Ill leave this post here for a day or two then move it to the cargo hold, so anyone in line here, that wants to jump on the good deal, can have it.

I also have the SUPER silver one up top, that would make a SWEET desk, for 375.

These are all considered seconds for above reasons, the silver silver silver one, a little silver comes off on your hands when you rub hard. You dont see a change in the surface unless you use press REALLY hard with a cleaning liquid though.

But is perty in person, and a really nice bubble free cast. Post here if you want one.

The two seconds (thick and one with a small tacky spot) were for samgamgee and musical,

    So, to reiterate:

I have boushhfans done to ship to australia monday
I have musicals ready to ship on monday
I have samgamgee's in the mold now, prob ship tuesday ( needs to cure a day or two before folding)
I have madrids ready to ship monday (I have problems sending to spain that I have worked out now, with paperwork: tight customs!)

I have THREE silvers to sell, ready to ship, as seconds for 375 (as stated above)

Ahh thanks man. Means a lot to me. It really does. Most of the time, the projects I do here, im really worried people wont be happy with them.

    Im glad you are.

For rubber, the hands and face, toes, and some of the body are pretty solid dont ya think?

Re: Official Commitment List: Han In Carbonite

UPDATE: NO MORE COLD CASTING SILVER!

Well, ive had two that turned out blemished. A third the wrong silver. Anyone thats cold cast, knows they are a pain in the arse. In this case, its over 100 in rubber, and 2-3 hours wasted, and i havent had any luck selling the slightly blemished ones for black prices.

Therefore, sadly, I have to say no more of them. I was going to charge $100 more, but that seems rude, even though in order to cover costs, time, and waste, its actually low, so I think im just going to not offer the silver(gunmetal) from here forward.

On that note, I have all the HICS' pulled and ready to ship out tomorrow. Thats the last of the paids, ill re-juggle the list, pm the rest the 'interested parties' and see where we lay.

The mold is showing signs of stress while demolding, but not in the pours yet. Its a little sticky in spots etc. Usually I get about 5-10 more at that point. Ill not keep one for myself if thre are interested people, but I dont think ill make another mold without 5-10 ready to buy. It was a tun of work and stress

    Thanks,
    m2

I havent sold the bright silver one yet. If you want it, its same price as the black.

After the ones I have poured are gone, they will all be black

The silver is pretty cool lookin. But if you paint it later, youll ahve to clean it really well, because the silver is really slippery. (a lot slippier than the black) but once cleaned, it is paintable no problem. But hard scrubbing dulls the surface.

Just got home after a long day at work to find a welcome surprise on my doorstep! A+++ all around for Stormrider for all the work on this run. It looks amazing. It feels very solid, and looks fantastic.

On a related note, I am planning on trying to make a mount for it to hang on the wall. Any suggestions?

Re: Official Commitment List: Han In Carbonite

If it were _me_ id do this.

Id trim it to the edge of the 'textured' front.

Id cut a piece of masonite (compression board, real thin, or even tool hole board for the garage) thats 2 inches or so bigger all the way around( 2-4).

Then id moun *** in the center of that, and maybe put trim on it. Almost like a frame. I saw some aluminum baseboard transition stuff (for the doorway) that would make a great aluminum frame for it. Thats probably what id do.

Cut the corners at nice 45 degree angles, so it makes a perty frame, and your golden.

The other option is to just get some board annd recess it enough so the rubber surface, meshes up with a grimmed 4 inch border, then when you hang it, it will look like the whole prop, recessed in the wall.

Im glad you like it. I hate dissapointing.

Thanks for the fast reply. Some great suggestions there. How would you recommend mounting it to the masonite? I'm assuming some sort of glue or adhesive? It feels very firm, but I think I want to fill it with some foam first if I do use glue, as it would be pretty permanent.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, it depends on how hard you want to work.

A soft foam, like FFX from smoothon would create a surface that expanded. Their heavey foams, are thicker, and would fill any 'inconsistensies.

Honestly, i bet liquid nails would work great for filling in and stiffening up things.

Its a tube glue for putting up drywall etc. It comes out like grease, and gets rock hard. Doesnt swell or expand when hardening. Sort of like a silicone caulk, which also would work to make the bottom smooth.

Actually a silicone caulk might work wonders, because it would come off if wasnt right.

But because of how thick and heavy it is, a glue gun would probably work.

Today i received glow in the dark powder, I may make my han radioactive

Well, mine showed up today...and as always you couldn't disappoint if you tried! It is incredible! Solid, while fairly light in weight, and the detail is sweet. It maintains itself well without any support from behind and shipping does nothing to it. Great job, Brother! I recommend it to anyone who even thinks they want one.

Thansk brother! Glad you like it!

The only problem with these is every once in a while there will be a 'sticky' spot in the rubber. (Small, usually smaller than a dime).

Once painted it seals it in and is fine. Eventually they cure, but ive had them take a month. So if you see a small sticky spot, dont pick at it. Just leave it, and it should cure and be easily covered when you paint

Got mine today and I am pretty speachless. The actual item to look at is just fantastic and somehow magical, takes you right back to being a kid and watching the movies. Then you come to the craftmanship and genius im casting the item in this material.

    Another awesome Stormrider item :thumbup

If anyone is still thinking about one of these you need to jump on it while you can........that's if you still can

Thanks M - totaly awesome (although my wife thinks not)

Yep! My wife thinks I'm nuts and my 2 year old daughter was terrified of it. I had to stash it in my man-cave!

Haha. Wow that was fast BFUK.

Im still making them, though ill be in europe for a couple weeks, when I get back, ill start the grind again.

Today I cut the tip of my finger to the bone, and stopped working early. I need to get the blasters done for ppl before I leave. So im going to give it a shot one handed tonight.

Im glad you guys like them.

For anyone still thinking about getting one, when I get back, im going to pull 1 or 2 a day till the mold dies, and then if people still want them, it will be a sign up list to make a new mold.

The mold is 100 lbs so its not an easy feat. But if people want them, ill make them.

The silvers are too time consuming, to do them id have to charge abotu 75 more than now, and if someone _really_ wanted me to do one, I would for that, but I really dont want too. It takes me sooooooo much longer, and theres so much more risk of it being a bad pull.

Anyone from here live in italy?

My 3 year old thinks it is great, which is handy as it is pretty much going to be the center piece to his Star wars, errr, space themed room , totally educational. Obviously it will have the little light alla Jabbas Palace

    Thanks Stormrider

Mine arrived in Aus today, and we are more than happy with the product, and speed of delivery. Have a great break, and look after yourself, we only have so many digits to work with.

    Kind regards
