Re: My Life-sized Han Solo in Carbonite Project - 2nd Attempt

    azheat01 -

This thread was the catalyst for motivating me to try & start my own Han in carbonite project so - thanks.

I'm still trying to source the partial Han from Stormrider, (I'm new here so I'm still sorta' figuring out the methodology of how to purchase - I did post in a thread of his but haven't gotten a response), but I'm absolutely gonna' do this in the near future after seein' what you've accomplished.

To be honest, I'm actually going to have Han on one side of a door, so I won't be digging in on the side panels & such, but the method you used to build up the carbonite around the partial is wonderful.

What type of hardener did you use along with the school glue, if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks in advance for any assistance/response,

    Lharles

Same here, I'd love to get my hands on a set of his panels, although I did read earlier in the thread that at one point his mold was out of service. Did he ever get a new one made?

I'll be damned! Sir, this is looking awesome. I just stumbled across your journal while searching the internet for tips on how to create a HIC desk and I think you will (and already have) help me greatly. Thanks

Excellent build. Unfortunately my husband was looking for "Life size Han" and we found this...now we hope to add a new piece to the inside of his office door someday.

Also, would you mind sharing who inspired you? It'd be great to see more high-quality examples like yours before trying to make my own. Thanks!

I've been asked to look into making a life sized HIC sculpture for a friend to use as a secret door. Can anyone tell me about Stormrider? I'd like to inquire about purchasing some molds. Thanks!

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread, but just today I saw full size HIC for sale on ebay, and then I came across this thread. I too would love to make this, but is the Han casting still available, and where would I get it? Any info would be great!

    thanks

Contact Stormrider (dented helmet) or Vos (the RPF-Forum)for a HIC cast.
Darthcromer has the greeblee set and VolVo Panel Casts.

    Hope that helps.

That looks great. I'll be happy if mine is even remotely close to the quality of yours once I finally get to working on it!

I decided to cut out the details on the top and bottom of the case. I don't know where I first saw that, and I am not sure if the movie prop had it, but I like the way it looks. I don't know the exact sizes, so I improvised. You wont really see these anyway when I mount this to the wall.

I used 1/2" MDF for the panel backing. It was cheap and has a nice smooth surface. I also put a few coats of sealer on the wood.

I am using expandable foam to fill in the voids of the HIC cast. I decided to do this first, just because I thought it would be easier than cutting the panel after it was glued down. Also did not want to run the risk of the expanding foam popping the panel off. I'll trim the excess once it fully dries.

Hoping to start priming this sometime next week.
Hi, just started my HIC Project Last week, glued Stormriders Cast already on the Wood Plate and added First Layer of Glue...i did Not fill the Cast, bad mistake or will it work too? Cheers, Clint
