IDEA: 3D printed side panels

let me start by stating that i am not making 3D printed side panels, i don't have a 3D printer, and i wouldn't know where to start to make the models needed to print them anyway. this is just an idea for anyone that would like to run with it.

here goes: 3D printed his side panels would be a great alternative for people trying to finish their HIC build and save a little. they probably wouldn't be as accurate as resin copies, but they could be printed with most of the greeblies already attached since most builders paint the entire panel one base color. if someone printed them with the greebs and wanted to make them available, you could print them with numbers on the underside so the buyer would know where each panel is supposed to go.

so if anyone likes this idea, has the modelling skills, and access to a 3D printer, i encourage you to take this idea and make it happen. just be sure to let me know if you do, because i need some side panels for my build.

That is a good idea saint, you should hit up aprilstorm, she does 3d stuff.

SR is working on getting himself back here...but wants to be able to commit time to this stuff and make people happy...not have upset people with open orders etc...I know he has a panel and was talking about offering them up....Might be something to run by him. I know he does have some CAD items maybe he could work something up?

Noob question. Is there someone on here that can print them and sell?
What is a fair price to have this printed in the states?

Printed would be expensive as all get out. I have a real Volvo panel. Its sitting on my desk. The issue is I would have to make multiple molds of it. What is the going price for a set of these panels? If I can make them and offer them up for less to help people out I will.

3d printed from a place, would be 400$... each. So your still making a mold. Printed yourself.... with a 2000 machine.... 25 bucks? I think its 30$ for 1 kilo of wire, not sure if the weight transfers perfectly.

Are the panels something that is in high demand? I assumed that market was flooded with cheap alternatives.

I have a set of side panels but they are a fan sculpt. I might be in for a set to upgrade to the real thing.

I don't think there are that many people offering copies of the real panel.

Stormrider High Demand is putting it mildly. I would literally beat the cr@p out of a single mother shopping at Wal Mart on Black Friday in the worst ghetto town in America over some Volvo panels right about now.

SR, I think the demand is there for another producer of side panels, I canthink of only two people that make the accurate volvo panels, one doesn't advertise and the other currently isn't producing them. I would be very interested in seeing another maker in that market.

This is awesome news!!

My Paypal account will be waiting patiently for your side panel invoice.

Its not normal for me to throw money at another guy. You might as well take up pole dancing.

This mold isn't bad. The part has been in a simple mold box forever. just never poured silicone into it. Ill drop some silicone on it some time today, its going to be 2 or 3 parts, so in the next couple days Ill have a test pull hopefully.

Is this of interest to anyone?

I need to know what a reasonable price is for a set of 8 of these. The top (that you see) is great. The underside will have some bubbles etc. Nothing bad, but this type of mold is really tough to get the bubbles out of it.

Ill need to make another mold or two and they are a PITA to make.
