    Jan 14, 2016, 3:22 PM - Bigturc's HIC build #1

    Hello everyone,
I'm from Montreal, Canada .. been around these board for a long time: Rebelscum a long time ago, RPF for a while too .. and long time lurker in here. I was in the 501st with my TK and TB although I didn't have time to troop for a while!

I recently registered here when I decided to build a HIC. There was lots of info in here and I needed to do my homework. I have a build thread on the RPF and here's my build thread here.

First of all, that represents about 1 year of research before I started my own build. Even a year ago, there was a huge lack of parts available so I decided to produce my own!

Got a Volvo panel from Philip @ Rebelscum, found the original t-levers, Michell arms and we also figured the panel nipples with the help of Kurtyboy. Lots of info to be found on this!

Here's the list of parts I got:

    Full front : Darthchromer
    Box : Zenix
Panel set : Me (check my run in progress on the RPF or contact me if you need any)
    Greeblies
Metal grill and clips : Zenix
All the rest: Bronica, knobs, t-levers, nipples, acrylic : Me (check my run in progress on the RPF or contact me if you need any)
Hero Panel #1 electronics : Darthchromer
Hero Panel #2 electronics : Warpcell

    Next post, pictures!!!

    Box construction
1/2" MDF backed to prevent sagging (it would never have sagged but better safe than sorry).

    Front panel
Since Zenix's box is about 5/8" thick MDF, I wanted to build my front with the thinnest depth possible to not have to fill with 1/2" of glue. So I built it first, than added a 1/4" thick plywood over the backing. In the end, I should have added more like 1/2" and only kept 1/8" .. you'll see later why!

You can see here the 1/4" backing beside the KingJawa 3 parts cast. What's left is about 3/8" of space. That should have been narrowed down to 1/8" instead.

    Box cutouts
Side cutout made of plywood .. they will mostly be hidden by the panels anyway so we don't mind for the rougher surface. I just wanted to save the MDF for later, in the end, I didn't use it so I could have done it smoother with MDF anyway!

    Han Cast
Work had started on the Kingjawa cast to make it cleaner. Mostly around the fingers where there was a lot of extra material.

    Volvo panels
For those not on the RPF, I made a mold and cast my own panels and offered them. Here's some pics of the process

Looking good. I am ready to paint mine once the weather gets warmer. It was 60 degrees in December, finally found all the paint colors and the temperature dropped. Spring cannot come fast enough.

you said you have the original Volvo panel, do you offer a set or even one in a resin casting for sale? I've got most of my other panels finished(just built using foam board and such) but I wanted a really nice hero panel for the green lit part

Just checking to see if you still do runs for the panel knobs... They look amazing!! Saw them on the builders club site.
