    WIP: My Daughter's Ewok

The 501st, New England Garrison is teaming up with Alderaan Base from the Rebel Legion to make our annual Halloween parade a huge success. This year we have two themes... the Clone Wars, headed up by our own Stormtrooperguy and his life sized battle droids and animated clone armor and the second is the Original Trilogy stuff highlighted by an Ewok village float with a bunch of our kids dressed as Ewoks. It's going to be a blast!

So, one of the local guys (Mark..who many have seen as an amazing Wookiee costumer over on the RPF and Rebel Legion forums) came up with rough plans for how to make believable Ewok costumes. We used regular screening, folded over and glued and taped to a ring of ABS plastic to basically make a fencing mask. It's light and allows for decent air flow even when covered in fur. Then we attached a top/back of the head so that there would be bulk under the Ewok's hood. On top of that we glued Sculpey nose and mouth pieces that we sculpted as well as eyes made out of sunglass lenses. SUPER CHEAP! The only cost so far that I have into this costume is the $35 I spent on ordering nice craft fur on Ebay. Check it out:

I then painted the Sculpey pieces:

I hot glued on the fur in sections making sure to have it "grow" from the center of the face working outwards just like a real animal.

I continually gave it a trim as I went along:

Used craft foam for the ears, super easy.

I used rolled pieces of leather, glued and painted for the eyelids:

    Scary stuff!

Here it is just sitting on the roll of fur...looks like a melting Ewok!

    More to come!

    Very nice job.
The facial features are more accurate than mine

    Especially the nose.
Mine is more of the "Ewok Adventure" style than the ROTJ, as mine has the painted eyes rather than the amber lenses

I was also lucky enough to have mine autographed by 2 of the original ROTJ Ewoks Margo Apostolos ,and Debbie Lee Carrington (also in Total Recall)

The Ewoks are going to be awesome, Bob! I am HEAVILY lobbying the wife to let me come up and troop with with ya!

Was this the head Brian had on in his shop the other day? He posted a pic on clonetroopers.net that was hilarious. I told him at Woburn we need to see him in full Rex with an Ewok head.

    Cheers!
    Chris

Impressive! I'd like to see how you make the rest of the costume. Great idea using the strainers to form a helmet! I'm sure your daughter will look adorable in it.

Actually, I didn't use a strainer.... I wrapped screen around a styrene hoop that I made. It's 100% custom contruction.

I completely forgot to update this thread with the completed pics!

    Here's a few...

if you were to do these for comission, how much woul dit run you think? My daughter would love one, but I really suck at doing that kind of craft.
