Thermal Detonators: Kickstarter Launch (9/9/12)

(NegEleven): Sounds like you're doing it right. Get some capacitors for your LEDs and they won't die. If they don't burn out right away, they likely wont for a long while. Overloaded LEDs pop right away and the ones that are on the edge tend to get all weirdly bright/muddy.

UPDATE 9/5/12:

Well, the digital detonator is done. Complete and ready to order from the printer.

We are in the last days and we've made some decisions on how this is going to go.

Once the Kickstarter goes live, i will not be shipping any detonators until the ship-date, which will be close to December 25th. Yep, close to the winter holidays. I repeat. No detonators once the Kickstarter gets rolling, assuming it does fund.

This is a good thing in several ways. It means you can plan for your X-Mas/Festivus/Or other holiday and expect a delivery for the holidays when gift-giving is common.

The expected ship date is pretty far because we expect this to a be a large amount of requested items and detonators so if there are less, we'll ship as soon as we can. With so many casting, it will take us a while too.

Also, we have a LOT of cool things planned for the Kickstarter, including a Keychain/mirror ornament. Have a look at what i sent to the printer tonight. I also ordered a sample:

We're planning t-shirts and stickers and if things go well... we have a Challenge Coin as a possibility which is looking very very cool. Another thing we might do: Gold Plated detonator keychains... but don't hold me to it just yet.

WHEN IS THIS GONNA HAPPEN RACHEL!?

Our master-plan is.... in 3 days! 9/8/12. Save the date!

So....

Being as how i will not be shipping ANY detonators until December when the Kickstarter gets going, I'm going to do ONE LAST RUN for those who want a detonator a little sooner. I'm not laying a limit on this run... but at some point I may say "STOP!". I'd guess they'll happen about 12-15 but I'm not too concerned about that.

So, if you want a detonator, look for my next post (as in the one I post after this one, as in, click my name and check my statistics, as in statistics are cool!)

Ciao!

UPDATE:

I mentioned T-Shirts, right? I know there's a lot of big kids here but we have to think of the younglings as well!

So, sneak-peak of the children's shirt design: (Work In Progress)

ALSO:

We were talking and I have decided to discount $15 off the current detonator run as thanks for all your support and as a final hurrah before the Kickstarter.

Link to the sale is below:

UPDATE: Sample of digital magic. If I could get them cast in chromed steel they might look like this... (Unfortunately they would be far too expensive this way.)

Still, it looks rather pretty and this is a good exampe of the new "shape" as this is what the 3D printer will use. It's extremely high poly count.

FINAL UPDATE:

Well, we're almost done but thanks to a really cool thunderstorm passing through today, of all days, since Portland almost NEVER gets thunder and lightning, it fried the power supply on our video editing computer.

Because of this we had to reshoot the video. We're going to launch tomorrow at Noon Pacific time. We have everything lined up and we're going to get a -good- nights sleep tonight since we've been getting about 4 hours a night for a week. (I'm sure that will show in the video).

So, thank you for all your patience and being as you all are the folks who have shown me that this is possible.

Did I say Noon? It's Noon in Hawaii I think.... :facepalm

So, it seems that Kickstarter has to approve all projects posted to their site :facepalm. We are still waiting on that to happen. After doing some deeper research... we have discovered that Kickstarter has to approve all things that go up. Looks like there's been a little snafu and according to the site, it could take up to 2 days! :facepalm

We did not anticipate this and apologize for the delay and will maintain a finger on the F5 key, making sure we know the MOMENT the project goes live... :facepalm

Thanks again. :(

Here's something of a "to tide you over" deal:

Our 4" (yes it's huge) sticker design which will be printed on silver foil, making it all reflective anywhere you see grey. Squint your eyes and use your imagination! (and imagine it on the back of your car or truck!)

and also, our Keychain! it's going to be cold-cast, just like the detonators but shrunken down with a cool shrink-ray i picked up at a yard sale.

There won't be one. The kickstarter is what's happening now and after this i may wish to move on to new projects. I have a new prop in the wings. The Kickstarter is your best chance to get something like the ones I've been producing.
