I've decided to do a scratch build Captain Phasma for my 15 yr old daughter... So here goes...
Suggestions and advice are always appreciated!!
started with posterboard patterns:

purchased a helmet on TDH and began rough layout:

bought this little guy for inspiration ...and I may borrow a few detail pieces

Thanks le1120!
On to the plumbing section at Lowes!
I prefer the thin septic pipe- its right at 1/16 thick 12ft long and $9. Looks like this build is going to need 3 pipes!

then cut to length-

then split it-

(Note- these next few steps are best done when the wifes NOT at home)
pop it in the oven 200* for about 3 mins-

when it becomes real pliable roll it smooth as it cools off-

transfer your patterns-

back to the saw-

quick sand-

then back to the oven... and start shaping (note if using a live model- like your child for example- make sure they are wearing thick clothing- sweatshirt or flannel)

stay tuned.....

Got 2 bfett- no fumes unless you burn it- then you will clear out the house! normally I set the stove to 200 throw the armor in and by the time the oven starts pinging it hit 200 the armor is ready to take out

here are a few more updates:
shoulders-

found these gloves-

material for the cape was tricky... but found this-

the cod piece was very involved. made the slot cuts, used paint sticks for shape and resin to fill in the edges-

That is super cool and it looks awesome!!

On a side note as a firefighter, use extreme caution heating the PVC in your oven. Make sure your overhead vent hood is on the highest setting and if you do accidentally burn it take it out of the oven asap and remove it from your home. Once it is removed open all windows and ventilate the house. Once the windows are open exit the house for 10-15 minutes while the fumes disperse. PVC is an awesome material, but when burned PVC generates carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and hydrogen chloride. Carbon dioxide is not lethal however, both carbon monoxide and hydrogen chloride are toxic and can be lethal in high concentrations.

Sorry not trying to be a downer, I would just hate to see anyone get hurt making armor!

Scratch builds make everyone happy! Excellent job, good sir. This gives inspiration to maybe scratch building my wife's Phasma.

Great pic of the two of you together. That was the motivation for me to do a Fett build - to be able to dress up with my kids.
