Hop on over to FISD (whitearmor.net). They can answer all questions stormtrooper related.

There are many types of armor makers out there, and whitearmor has all of the highly recommended ones that have a good product, and deliver. I went with ATA for my trooper. It's a good kit, and the most affordable IMO.

He doesn't have a website, but you can email him at: ataworks@yahoo.com

    Hope this helps!

Ok, It seems most of the helmet kits are out of my budget.
Just wondering, Why are these so expensive? Is the quality that good?
    Is the plastic durable?

    Thanks DeathProof for the information.

$130 is pretty cheap for a good TK lid kit. That's unfinished so quite a bit of assembly. Not trying to dissuade you, but if that's too much money I wouldn't dig too much further into the build/collection. You're paying for something that has some lineage to screen used props, and something that cannot be obtained from visiting walmart or amazon. The best total kit for the price is the ATA or the MTK trooper kit, but expect between 550-700 for an entire kit. Lots of trimming/fitting/gluing.
if you're only interested in the lid, visit trooperbay online and email Mike. They make an awesome lid as well. Runs a little higher I believe. View some of the build threads on MEPD for some good pics of both helmets.

Well, I will think about the 130$ lid, I have always wanted a storm trooper helmet! I actually built a snow trooper helmet from scratch, and a kids mandolorian helmet and costume, not to mention I sculpted a bust of admiral ackbar, I made a tardis key from Dr.who out of paper and a mold from that key to make another .
So I have some experience prop building, It should be worth the money, working with plastic is better than using spacling paste and sanding repeatedly!!

Thanks for the information, I will think more about it.

Edit: MTK helmet kit is 200$

I think the MTK comes with the interior accessories also. Foam, lens material, chin strap, aerators. Not 100% sure, but something to consider. Gotta have those items to complete the build

I have many materials to use at my home, I actually have foam and see through black plastic for the lens, I also think I can make the aerators if I need to.
Do you know if the ATA kit comes with the exterior aerators?

Edit: Quoted from the email reply from ATA
Helmet kits are $130 plus shipping and include neck and brow trim, lens material, hardware to build it, and mic tips. No decals, sorry

Ata comes with the mic tips and accurate mesh. Also comes with correct green lens material. You just need to build and paint it yourself.

I will probably go with Ata, it seems like the best deal, and the quality seems to be spot on.
I'll let you guys know when I get the helmet kit, thanks for the help!

I don't remember the green lens, I thought it was black.
Also, is the Ata helmet a stunt or a hero helmet, or what's the difference?

ATA would be a stunt helmet, although I thought the difference between stunt and hero was only the number of screws in the ears. Look up FISD for all the differences. The lens is green, but when light doesn't shine through it looks black.

The ATA is a stunt. Very few makers of the hero version. Eye openings shaped different, lenses are bubbled, frown is different. IMO the hero just doesn't look as menacing as a stunt TK lid.

Some pictures of work on the helmet kit. Tell me what you think so far. Also, Is it a bad idea to use snaps instead of rivets to attach the front to the back?

Wouldn't use snaps for that. I'd clamp with neo magnets and roughly locate the ear piece to help placement of these fasteners/. You need to drill holes (size depends on your rivets, but usually 1/8"), and either use pop rivets or screws/washers/nuts. If you use rivets, makes sure you use a washer on the upset side of the rivet to prevent it from pulling thru the plastic. You only need one fastener per side for this part, and locate them where they will not interfere with the fasteners later for the ear pieces, and will be covered up by the ears. Tons more info on First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachment (FISD) if you need more info than I'm giving.

Looking good! now put that pup together brother!

Thanks for the informative reply syllander. Today I installed the mic tips onto the helmet, does it look correct? (looking down the mic tips look strange to me, they also wont totally slide in, the back of the mic tip hits)
(Edit: When you drill the holes for the mic tips, i used an exacto knife and spin it like a drill, it will drill through, and not break the fragile plastic.)

Looks good brother. The screen used ones were all over the place.....I'd compare the teeth with some good screen shots. Looks like you still got a little trimming to do there, but no big deal there.

I was following pandatroopers tutorial, he seemed to make the teeth shapes rounded, I kind of like that look better, I might make them bigger and a little less round, but Is it very important to change the shape to rectangular?

No, some go with the Twinkie teeth style like yours are. Just more important to get the sizing right. This mainly focuses on the bigger teeth.

    Teeth should definitely be square.

I'm starting to fit the front and back together with rare earth magnets.
I'm also not going to use rivets, Instead I will use a bolt and a nut to hold the front and back together.
The side does seem to pop out a little too much, but I've read that the ears will cover that.
I also cut down the black rubber to fit the "Brow".
    Any kind of thoughts?
