HIPS, is not the prefered plastic to make armor, however, Its a cheaper alternative to ABS. Ive been told that it can crack and in some cases, actually cut someone. Honestly, it can be a flimsy plastic, again, no where as sturdy as ABS, but people do use it.
TK560 (Jim) has made his suit I believe from HIPS for his fan films. It also depends on thicknesess too.
HIPS is okay, but cracks easily. ABS is more durable.
You buying a new suit??
Hey Bro,dedending on the thickness,Poltstrene can make awesome armor. But what most people don't know or want to admit, is that Polystrene will warp when trooping in the heat.
Styrene has the ability to mold in sharper details than ABS, but the trade-off is that it is less durable. However, I believe it's the stuff that was used in the movies if you're going for accuracy.
I own styrene TE armor, and have trooped in it many time with no problems.
If the Polystrene is a good thickness?......Then you won't have any problems.
AND I do agree with hansoloway.....Styrene does have the ability to make sharper details than ABS.
considering the rough treatment "trooping" armor gets, i went with an ABS AP suit instead of the TE. details aren't as sharp, but it's rugged![]()
ABS is the way to go BRO !!!!!
