My three vaders are all but finished with the exception of painting my ROTJ helmet, and adding poseable hands/gloves to the mannequins.
I can't put into words the relief I'll feel when they are finally finished. I'm so over working on vader and want to be able to focus more on finishing other characters without being distracted by vader stuff.
Can't paint the helmet until spring, and the gloves are underway.
In the meantime, I wanted to complete the mannequins with fully poseable hands.
As far as the poseable hands go, I was going to build them from scratch using wood, hose, wire, etc...
Then I saw Tom Spina's poseable hands on his website and thought I'd save myself some trouble. I ordered three sets, one for each vader.
Once they arrived I immediately realized that they were too small proportionally for vader.
They are great for regular sized characters (and plan on ordering more at a later time )
No biggie, I think I found a way of re-sizing them but it will take some work.
So the point of this post is this. All of the pics I've been able to take up to now have to sort of hide the fact that there are no hands. That has a huge negative impact on how realistic the mannequins look in real life and in pics.
Here are a couple new pics showing the hands as they arrived with some plain leather stand in gloves. AND IN A NEW POSE!
Just deviating from the standard lame arms hanging straight down makes a huge difference (at least to me).
Later once the hands/gloves are finished, the plan is to take a ton of new pics in all of our favorite poses from production stills etc..
Let me know what you guys think.
