MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
In my (cough) spare time I have been working on this little beauty, its a Laws AT-AT Pilot kit, so far, as you can see I'm working on the helmet alone as once this is out of the way it will inspire me to finish off the other armour pieces in the kit, the helmet was a b@#$%rd to assemble but what doesn't kill you only makes you more irritable I say :cheers Enjoy, more to follow

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Beautiful! Can't wait to see it progress!
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Very Nice, cant wait to see more.

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
SWEET! :cheers
The AT-AT driver has always been one of my favorites! Right after Boba and Darth Vader of course. :D Snowtroopers, clone troopers, Stormtroopers, TIE pilots, Biker scouts, the list goes on, so why in the world would anyone want to make a rebel costume with all the cool Imperials to choose from? :lol
Keep us posted on this one, please. :drool
BTW, where'd you get an AT-AT bucket?

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Beautiful helmet! Not every day you see an AT-AT Pilot helmet. Where did you get the aerator greeblies?
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Awesome! :suprise
This is a really cool lid Joe... where did you get the kit from?
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
I was fortunate enough to get the kit as a whole from a member on the RPF he didn't have time to finish it but the kit included everything except the jumpsuit!! The aerator greeblies are aluminium, I have just test fitted them along with the mohawk, I will put a few more pics up in the next day or so :thumbsup
Edit: Can the mods please move this to the prob building workshop, sorry dont know why I posted this thread here!

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Looking great! Love the AT-AT helmet. :)

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Nice work so far bro. Dunno much about AT-AT/TIE buckets but they look very similar. Are there subtle differences besides color?
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Actually thats something I've wondered about myself, apart from obvious small details like greeblies I'm not certain of the differences, they are huge helmets though!! :lol
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
There are subtle differences with the helmet. I believe hoses come out of the back of it actually. I'd have to ask my friend Clay, he is a TIE Pilot and plans to do the AT-AT also.
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Don't know how i missed this topic, would love to own one of these in the future. Can't wait to see more pics :)

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Great progress Joe, I know how much of a pain the tie kits are to put together and im sure this is the same, but youve done it proud so far

TIE Pilot helmets from ANH were repurposed as AT-AT helmets for ESB. They were repainted and had quite a few greeblies added to them that the TIE helmet lacks.

Pulled my finger out a bit and painted up the frown and vocoder details, also took a close up shot of the Aluminium aerator greeblies, enjoy :thumbsup
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Looking good, this will make a great addition to the collection when its finished, are you just doing the display or going to go for the full costume?
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Well the only things I'm missing for the full costume is the jumpsuit/boots and the hose so we'll see ;)
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Do you get the Aluminium aerator greeblies with the Laws kit?
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
I bought the kit as a whole from a member on the RPF, whether they are included in the Laws kit I am unsure sorry :thumbsup
-

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
God that thing is amazing
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
looks like you'll have to paint the thing grey now:lol:lol
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Oh snap :lol At least I'd only painted the frown and vocoder, I could've stuck all the decals down and fitted the lenses, thank god the clone has taken up most (all) of my time lately :thumbsup

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Dude, you just inspired me to try and finish one of these bad boys this year.
I love you..
But seriously, I have been wanting to do one of these for quite some time. I planned on buying the whole Law's suit. Armor, helmet, box, the whollle thang son. I would probably buy it as a kit, but who knows..I am always very satisfied with Law's stuff, and in fact I am getting a new TIE bucket from him very soon.
Good luck buddy, I will watch this thread with a lot of interest.

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
starwarshelmets.com I just saw this today on the FL boards...good thing you weren't done with it yet!

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
I happened to open up SWH yesterday on a whim and BAM!... Stumbled on news I just had to share. I feel for all those Drivers out there that are compelled to redo their stuff now.

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
I have to say that when I found out I laughed out loud - the owner must have thought I was some kind of freak "grey, snort, heh heh heh, grey, snort, just wait till the guys find out, heh heh heh, snort" :drool
I've been working on 2 AT-AT replicas for about 3 years so its a good job I'm a sloooooow prop maker. Ive spent the last week trying different shades of grey.
Cheers
Jez

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Its certainly a very very light shade of grey, the photo that Art posted comparing the AT-AT and the TIE proves that :lol

Except the AT-AT pic used was so over exposed it came out looking white
Here's my replica. Same helmet, different exposure

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Indeed, I'm starting on this tomorrow, painting it the correct colour, I may even have a go at the tube stripe decals which look like pinstripe material
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Haven't you finished this yet Joe? :b
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
You know, when I saw that thread over on the RPF about it being grey, I knew of 2 other people, including yours who were painting up an ATAT helmet, I was thinking to myself that a few of them were going to be cursing up a storm rofl
But Ive always wanted to get one of these kits
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
I was lucky in that I'd only applied the main white and the black on the frown and vocoder, I know a few people who are literally going back to primer....ouch :lol

Dan is a friend of mine. He designed all of the greeblies but the Aluminum aerator greeblies are made by Elvis Trooper. You can get them here.

and you can reach Dan and see more of his work here.

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Looking good so far. Any chance you could take a pic with a piece of white card or something near so we can see the contrast?
Cheers

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Sure thing Jez I'll get a couple tomorrow when its light :lol I've since repainted the frown and vocoder as I'm quite happy with the shade of grey :thumbsup
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP

Here you go Jez, shot outside in daylight next to a sheet of white paper :thumbsup
forgot to ask Jez, are there washers under the cog details on the forehead? looks like plumbers washers?

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
thanks to the mods for moving this :thumbsup

Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
I know that there is a plasitc circular disk that seperates the metal greeblies
-
Re: MR Laws AT-AT Helmet WIP
Yeah the only difference is that on the originals 'I believe' the recessed holes where the mic tips normally go on a stormtrooper helmet are the same as the stormtrooper, however on my replica the area is raised and flat, see my pics to see what I mean

Yea, I guess that just makes it easier for you. I guess all you would need to do is take the metal greeblies, lay it flat side down onto some styrene, trace and cut a circle. That's what I'd do
