Hey guys, I've been putting together a Hoth Snowspeeder Pilot Luke Skywalker costume and I wanted to share the helmet I've been working on. The helmet kit is from DarthHair, and I can't thank him enough for a great product. The kit looked great, included everything I needed, and was easy to assemble with the help of his YouTube tutorials. All of the decals are also from him and the vinyl was a breeze to apply and they look great! I would highly recommend him to anyone in the market for anything X-wing.
The helmet was painted using regular old rattlecan spraypaint. Each section was masked off with painters tape and I used artists masking fluid to mask off as many of the dings and scratches that are shown on screen. I used my collection of screenshots from the movie and replicated the damage as precisely as I could. All of the decals, again, are from DarthHair including the Rebel insignias, stripes along the ears, and V marks along the rams horn. The mohawk tip stripes were masked and painted with spraypaint as well. All of the weathering is done with many layers of light misting with Rustoleum Automotive and 2x Gray primers. These were then sanded back using #0000 with steel wool to expose the high edges of the helmet and leave the low spots dirty. Everything was sealed with Testor's dullcoat when it was complete for that dead flat finish.
Anyway, on to the pictures and thanks for looking!
