Alright boys i need some advice i went out and bought one of those hasbro clone blasters since they did actually do a decent job on, i've modded it in a few places but i need to paint it black... my problem being i've never painted anything before, any ideas how i should do it?
how comfortable are you with spray paint?
fairly decent i think if i mess this up i wont be upset so any suggestions you've got id love to hear
I have just bought one as well. A little smaller than the original. But still pretty decent. I am painting tonight. I would advise taking apart the blaster first, to spray individual pieces and so you don't get paint on the blaster light effect.
I will start off with a spray coating of Chaos black and then probably dry brush the 'metal' areas with gunmetal paint. Maybe a few bits of Mithril silver for added scratches after... I'll let you know how I get on. My first attempt!
Cant wait to hear how yours goes... post some picks as you go man... lol i didnt even think about taking off indivdual peices to paint
Came across my first issue - the tip of the blaster and the handle where the stock fits have been glued! Not sure how to get them off without some serious damage. (although only 20 quid, so I guess some mistakes should be fine. Will take some photos. I think it may help the paint to stick to the barrel if it is sanded slightly as well. very shiny...
Yea i fiddled around with it and i dont think its going to come of eaisly or nicely... im just going out now and spray painting it silver and later i'll paint it black (I did some sanding it it makes it quite a bit nicer)
First Give it a light sand with 280 grit sand paper then spray an under coat with a gray primer let dry as per directions then use a matt black spray then if u want to add some weathering use a silver model paint on a small brush apply paint on the brush and dab it out on to some paper to get less paint on brush this will creat a scratchy afect more realistic, apply to chosen areas for detail an repeat prosses til disiored affect is achieved
Finished mine tonight. Was tricky getting the nozzle off but really pleased with the results. I sanded with a fine sandpaper and after undoing all the screws was able to remove the light effect. Simply covered in plastic before undercoating the blaster in black. Drybrushed in gunmetal grey and then highlighted scratches using a silver paint. Really happy with the results!

I just did this today to my Hasbro Fett blaster. Darman was right- its a pain to get the nozzle off. Mine cracked in the process, but some glue during re-assembly took care of it.
The captain rex blaster splits nicely when you remove the screws, unlike the rebel, fett and clone blasters that have glued caps on the ends of barrels and scopes. Rex's also has that neat blue glowing barrel you'll wanna mask to preserve.
