From EPIII to EPII: modifying a helmet!

Hello all clones,

this post is to encourage you visiting my blog: you can see it the WIP of clone phase I helmet (or the destruction of a phase II... I'm not really sure :p)

My post are translated so you can read them :) however the web buttons are in Spanish... but there is not much to do with them... "Leer más" means "Read more" and if you click there you will be able to read the complete post. "Añadir un comentario" means "Add a comment".

I hope you like it.

I saw the first page with the photos of the PII with the nose cut off. It also had side by side photos of the PI and PII. I recognize the PI.

If you have both models in hand for reference, you must see that the PII is wider than the PI. That changes the look enough that I would like to recommend a scratch build to get the helmet you want.

I get the side by side picture from google... unfortunately I don't have any PI clone helmet... that's why I'm building this one lol

You say scratch build... but is not scratch building what I am doing? :S Could you specify a little more what you are recommending me?

Thank you :)

I saw from the blog (and the title of this thread) that you were modifying a PII helmet into a PI. Is that what the fist picture is, the one with the blinking lines of the PI? That is modifying, and starting on the "Half-way" point"

My point is that is would be less work to start at square one with your own build, than start at the finish, go back 10 steps, and start building. There is a thread on "scratch building" somewhere in the Clone section.

Understood!

I'm just a learner and you're the master :) so if you say so it will be true. However I believe I don't have the necessary skills to create a helmet from the begining... re-building may be slower but I think it's easier for me. :(

But now I have started with it and I cannot undo what I have done... it's very possible I end up with a destroyed helmet...but the trial and error is other way of learning! lol

Thank you for the image reference!

I think that in the end you will be dissappointed, the geometry is so different between the respective Phases that it's too dramatic. But, I think you could ultimately end up with an interesting, custom hybrid helmet. You will also learn certain aspects of scratching building.

Hey, nice way to convert a helmet!

Just finish the helmet, the only tip I would like to give, keep it as much as symmetrical as possible, you might come up with the missing link between the episode 3 clone helmet and the stormtrooper helmet.

Nice project, I'm very curious how it will turn up in the end!

I was reading this thread and thinking "oh no! That'll never work". However... I'm seriously impressed it's clearly taking shape and starting to look the part. Can I assume from the eye peice you have decided to make the Phase 1 Neyo helmet?
I have to say I like it.

Update:

Edit:
To make it easier for you I'm copying my blog's message here.

The crest isn’t glued, I have to settle it in its proper place. I just put it there to see how it looks. Besides the mohawk itself is not finished.
I have made the visor setoff.
I have made bigger cheek holes , they were too small before this update I think.
Besides I’ve checked that all parts are symmetrical, before this update the helmet had a lot of asymmetrical areas.

¡Hola!

Hi!

I'm glad you like it... but it's not finished yet! Patterns... I'm afraid I don't have patterns. I have used an image that CloneSix gave me as reference and the EPII Clone Helmet Pepakura file from Skip. You can see the CloneSix's image in this thread and you can contact Skip to ask him for the .pdo file.

I'm finishing the lid and when I do it I would like to recast it and make some copies. If you're interested on the helmet let me know it and I will sign your name on the 'interested list'... it will be cheaper for you than building one from scratch (mainly due to the large amount of hours you'll have to spend). Anyway if you want to make it like me you'll have my support and you'll be able to ask me at any time what you want :)
