Yikes!

Sorry, I didnt notice the thread has been bumped up! Just to let you know, that I will be continuing on with this still, but Ive taken on some other projects at the time being (One of which is finishing off darksword's jango bucket!) But I will soon be getting clone armor (I swear on it too!). Plus, I plan to use some the armor pieces as a helpful reference, for sizing and overall shape (No, I will NOT be recasting-just want to make that clear). Fortunatly for me, I just got hired as a busser at a BBQ resturant, so I'll be making some cash to help me out. The only thing now that my hinder progress is a lack of time, so I'll have to squeeze in some time.

Other then that, yea, I need to just keep at it, not much progress since my last update. Sorry for the lack of progress

Well, I got around to workin on the JJP today, tryin to finish up the main box, at least the constrution of it. However, looking at the 3d model, I notice that the box i built appears too tall, and the bottom actually tapers off at the bottom. So Im goin to have to do some trimming.

Another issue is, how the heck am I going to attach the thing?? All sides will be closed off. Im thinking of cutting a rectangular section out from the area in which it will cover, so that I can reach my hand in there and attach it that way.

I'll try to post pics if there is significant progress...

Well, I bought some bondo today, every other time, ive just been using Durhams. However, this is the auto body filler. Durhams is a dry wall repair product, but I have issues where it likes to flake off and ruin a good amount of work.

Im not 100% sure how to use this, but like anything else, trial and error...

Alright, well heres what I did today.

The issue I had with the main box, is that it originally just didnt look right after I put it all together, it was too tall, and I opened up the 3d model of the DT, and realized that I was right. Here's how it looks from the side:

3dDTJP.jpg

The arrow/red lines shows what the shape should be.

Now, here's what my work looked like before:

You can see a line (a few actually lol), thats where I made the cuts to shorten it, and fix it.

This is what the surface details looks like, Im going to add some other greeblies to make it look 'better':

Now, here it is after making the cut:

I was lucky enough that because of that original design flaw, that I didnt need to construct a whole new box, but just modified it the way it needed to be. So there are still some things I need to look over on the actual 3d model, and cut and trim the actual physical prop to get the overall shape looking good and as accurate as possible. Will start bondoing as soon as I can get some latex gloves..

Thanks bro!

Well, today, I made my first attempt at using bondo. I think this will turn out alot better then if I had tried using durham's again. So I aplied it to basically every edge. Also, I applied it to Darksword's RF box as well to fill the air bubble holes from the resin casting. Hopefully it will turn out well after I sand it all down tomorrow. If everything looks good, I'll apply the black paint to the JP box, and I'll work to bondo up the main body of the JP as well.

Awesome dude, great job!:cheers

Just remember that those models use flat textures. wahtever looks like an indent or rise, probably is and probably isn't. You probably already know that, but just to make sure.

Yea, Ive realized that, its a matter of interpretation. Especially with the JP 3D model, there are no actual polygonal details on it, just merely the shape of the JP, and basically, a picture attached to it. Same thing with the helmet.

Small update, I sanded the bondo and it looks pretty smooth, so I painted like 4 coats of flat black, and Im goin to clear coat it soon.

Awsome Jet Pack bro, awsome Jet Pack. :cheers

Thanks Jodo! Trying to make it as best I can..

Speaking of Jet Packs, the painting of the box is done, so here is how it looks. Im really happy with it, after using the bondo, leaves it looking like one completly solid piece. Im thinking about goin back to clean up my fusion cutter with this now...

Here's what it looks like. Since it is flat black, its hard to see it as you would in person, so one with and one without flash:

Its not shiny in this pic, its the flash
