Darktrooper Progress Thread 8MAR2011: Getting back to it

If your not already you should head over to the 501st Spec. Ops forums and Awesome build by the way
http://www.501stspecopsdet.net/forum/index.php

Oh wow, yea, I haven't been on the site since before basic, but they changed it alot! My old thread is no longer there. Two forum programs before, I was actually the mod for the darktrooper section, but the change overs kinda threw a few things out of place

Man, I hate this thing to still be all talk..I feel helpless not being home. For those that don't know, I have been giving this project alot of thought and I have been wanting to transition this from the current BF2 version, to the original incarnation of the Phase 3. I can't really decide this for sure, but I will eventually be aquiring an almost one of a kind phase 3 jetpack kit made by RichiesArmor some years ago.

That being said, I am NOT abandoning the current one (as I've put too much time, effort and money into this). The helmet, oh man, I really want to finish this thing. I really, really want to get the details fixed from the move and get the transition mold made!

Ugh, I hate being trapped here!

mine was made of card board and packing tape, then we made a mould of it . its gonna have 11 fans inside and a mini can that can record 8 hours of footage.

Since I'm back, Im going to spend some time focusing on this. I've decided I'm going to make a plaster mold, 4 parts. Going to be freaking massive, but I can handle it!

I'll cast it in solid plaster as well. Wish me luck!

I'm glad to see that you are going to be continuing this project. I've always loved watching the progress on this since the beginning.

Chris, I cannot believe you are still cracking away at this!

I remember this thread when it first started up and I have got to say I really admire your dedication.

Don't feel disheartened, you are doing a fantastic job and I'm so pleased to see how far you have come.

Thanks bro! Been along time. Never thought I was gonna be taking so long on this project! I have the helmet sculpt on my desk just sitting there, so I always see it, and it bugs me that I haven't done anything.

Anyways, I was giving it some more thought today. My buddy is going to help me out with it. I'm going to make one mass box. Going to pour the plaster in either 2 or 3 halfs.

If I go with two, it'll seperat length-wise, with a seam down the center of the face to the rear fin. If I do a 3 part, I'll have two sections spliting the face and the rear half of the helmet will be it's own section.

IDK, alot of ways I can do this. Either way, it's gonna be massive

Thanks again!

I'm wanting to get the mold done before megacon, but funds is holding me back! I had to repair my car last week and that took a significant amount of cash! Anyways, other than that, I'm in the process of planning how to make the mold since the thing is so massive!

From the cast, I'm going to be doing the final smoothing and detailing, adding the mouth grill and sharpening the details.

Getting prepped and ready for this molding. I'm recruiting some fellow soon to be 501st'ers for the transition mold process. It's going to be a two part plaster mold straight down the centerline (length wise). Since I have the huge opening, I'm going to be attaching a "neck ring" so that I can mold this and not worry about trying to fill the opening.

From that, I'll be using shell shock brushable resin that way I don't have to do a slush cast with a soon to be 40+ pound plaster mold!

Ok, I've taken a long hiatus from this. I've kept putting this off for too long. I'm getting this done, if it kills me. No other project or anything until THIS is finished. I have recovered my old 3D model and starting this again

I have already begun repairing and making adjustments to the sculpt that survived 2 moves across the state...

Confined indoors today, as maintenance men were occupying the outside of the building, pressure cleaning the entire apartment, so got some more work done to this...

I began fixing the rear. I'd say the biggest obstacle with this is getting the entire back side of this sculpt clean. You can see the nastiness of it. I'm thinking that I'm going to cover the entire dome and back end in the new clay, as it's much better quality and much easier to work with.

Overlooking the 3d model, it appears that the back is supposed to be rounded, versus the sharp angled look of it before, therefore, I've added more clay to "round" it out. Still needs some minor work and smoothing, but almost there.

Since I was re-working this area, I've decided to try and pronounce the detail, but think I need to round it down and give it a lower profile..

Getting there...
