Darktrooper Progress Thread 8MAR2011: Getting back to it

Well, I finished the move and I'm back home. I wanted to give the damage report though..

My scratchbuilt jet pack, well, has been ultimatly destroyed.
The pepakura chest armor and back piece, I had to dispose of. I had no room to transport these at all
the helmet sculpt is still intact. I was as careful as I could be with this, but still suffered damage. I need to spend awhile repairing it

Non related, my fusion cutter prop began to fall apart (due to heat)

So yea, thats whats going on right now...

Just making a status update.

Not giving up, just taking my time. The move put some damage on the helmet sculpt, but nothing that cannot be fixed. I'm thinking about re-working some details on the face for more accuracies, and might throw in some small details that are reminicent of real TK helmets, but nothing to sway it from accuracy.

The jetpack that I spent time scratchbuilding, well, completly fell apart, and I've pretty much scrapped it, save what pieces that I can keep. I was planning on re-doing the jetpack anyways, but it still sucks. Lesson learned though.

My dad has been renovatiing my grandfather's house, and say's that I can use his seperate garage/building as a workshop when he's done getting permits, etc. So I'll have a place to work on this armor, indoors and have alot of space.

I will be re-building a vac-former, with help hopefully. Reusing pieces from my original former. I can't say when this will all actually take place, but I'm expecting to begin sometime during the winter or sometime AFTER I return from Army basic next year. I need a solid income before I can really do what I need for this project. After what happend to my jetpack, I want to do things right the first time, so I don't have to repeat anything again.

Thank you :)

I wanted to let you all know that there will be a major change to this project depending on certain circumstances. I'm going to continue and finish the current helmet, but I've decided to take a more "original" turn on this.

I'll keep ya'll updated

Any updates on your Dark Trooper projects? I'm new to the boards, and have been looking for a costume for someone my size, and a DT sounds like it would be a great fit (I'm 6ft 8, 300#). I'm REALLY impressed by your work so far, and hope you get these finished soon so I can start working on mine. Good luck finishing them and getting them approved by the 501st.

I'm going to be honest in that this won't be getting completed anytime soon on my end. I recently enlisted in the Army Reserves and will be leaving in about 2 months, and won't be back for 8 months. I have too many obligations and projects that I need to take care of before I leave, so I won't be working on this anytime soon unfortunatly. When I return, however, I actuallly have money to my name and be able properly fund this.

1996

Back when I was deciding on character to base my first armour sculpt on, I had narrowed the selection down to two characters; The Dark Trooper and DURGE.

In conversation with my Garrison Commander,--president of the local chapter of the 501st costuming community--I learned that the Dark Trooper had already been done, in 1996;

I post this to encourage those working on their own Dark Trooper projects, Chris and others, to completion.

Be well,
Thomas

Encourages me to pick up where I left off, any other pics of this 96 DT Phase III?? I know the one Chris and I are working on is a Battlefront (2.5 version between Phase II and III) of the Dark Trooper.

I've still got a few pages left to read in the middle of this thread, but I've really been enjoying going through it. Been providing me with a lot of ideas and inspirations of my own. Best of luck with the Army and establishing a cash flow! I'll look forward to seeing more progress.

I've been thinking alot about this lately. I feel bad about the lack of attention I should have given this. I find that having a job now is really going to get me moving along with this when I get back.

My biggest goal is to get this helmet done. I haven't completly decided yet, but if things are looking hopeful, I'm going to change over to an original DarkTrooper from Dark Forces. I haven't gotten much done except for the helmet, biceps and forearms anyhow, so I can go two ways: finish this version out or start fresh.
