Darktrooper Progress Thread 8MAR2011: Getting back to it

Hey Chris, I will check my resources person and get back to you on this. I think you did a good job on the piece. I was actually going to make mine just like a stormtrooper but have the bottoms come together, like you did.

Yea, its just a pain in the butt. I mean, it's obvious from what I can see, that the detail lines begin to curve into each other, but dosn't help :facepalm I'll be looking forward to your analysis, in the mean time, i'll see if I can get someone to "brighten" a image to see if it can reveal any more detail

I haven't heard from my friend who worked on these files for the game but from what he said before is that he manipulated regular Stormtrooper files by pulling and stretching the face. It was to be a squattier and wider front. So think your interpretation is spot on, but that is only an OPINION. Opinions aren't always accurate until I hear from the source and if he can present me other files to pull shots from.

My overall opinion on this is to strive for accuracy but your are ultimately the artist, and it is your interpretation of a video game Dark Trooper. Have fun and if you like it, TROOP ON! Excellent work Chris.

Wow. I joined the forums here just for this! As a bigger guy (6'3") I was looking for an Imperial uniform that would look right on me. This was the first thing that popped into my head. Chris, it looks great and I will be watching your progress with great interest!

Thanks man! Yea, I'd love to hear from your buddy to see what he says about it. I'm still going to play around with it a bit more though. Here's an updated pic of it now, I did this later the same night:

Here is a pic of the sculpt as of now. I'm getting closer to finishing the other ear cap and I've started working on the back a bit more.

Ignore the lines I put into it as of now, I just did that for myself to get a general idea of placement.

Looks good Chris, keep it up Bro!!

Long over do - meaning there are people who worked on this game who have wanted to see the Dark Trooper take physical form for many years now.

I actually have been busy on my Boba Blaster molds and Mando bucket build. I need to get crackin back on this bucket.

lol Well from my research awhile ago, everyone that has attempted working on this has had some seriously bad luck :wacko

The word on the grill is that it spawns from the center, like you have it. The white in this picture is the highlight of the black parts. The big black area at the bottom/ sides are more of a shadow vs. a part.

Oh man, I'm sorry for not responding!

Thanks for posting that clearer pic for me..Well, here's the plan I have. Since I won't be able to get to D-con, I'm going to work my butt off to produce a finished helmet, for my buddy to bring to display.

What I am going to do, however, is make a plaster mold and plaster cast of how it is right now. The reason for this, is that it would significantly decrease the amount of smoothing work it needs as it is now with clay. This will also preserve the current details, so that I won't have to fear of accidenly messing a section up. Thats the plan, and I really think I can pull it off over the summer.

Well, at the moment, I am planning to do the plaster molding in the coming weeks. Going to start building the mold box tomorrow, IrishFett22 is going to be helping me out getting this done. We are also thinking of putting together a Dark Forces Phase 3 helmet, but we are not sure yet.
