Clone Trooper undersuit
So i was wondering who will be making the clone troopers undersuit ,as everyone seems to been using the standard ST undersuits .
Compare the clones undersuit which is ribbed to that of a ST ...maybe ladysewforus could make them ?? :doh i was just courious about this subject if anyone wants to be a screen accurate clone ;)

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Up to this point it has been difficult for folks to replicate. Bulk is a major concern, in addition to over heating. That 's why lot of folks have stuck to Under Armor, for it's wicking properties. I actually have a full blown ribbed undersuit, created by Shadowdale productions. I tried it on once, then took it off as I immediatly started to sweat and overheat. I would love to see what materials can be found, that work similarly to Under Armor, but can also retain the appropiate ribbed effect. I think Sci-Fire was looking into this awhile back.
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
I have been considering giving this a try, but I am still over booked with the orders I currently have. Does anyone have good screen accurate pics?
How much interest is there in a more SA Clone Trooper undersuit? Sounds like Replicant Shadow's SA ribbed undersuit is not too practical
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
For something that is only noticed up-close, and can't be seen in photos, I don't see the need for trooping. A ribbed undersuit would cook the wearer.
Under Armor is the way to go.
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
While I would agree with clone six for those who troop a lot, would it not be possible to create an undersuit that was thin in the hidden areas and ribber in the areas that are obviously seen, or is the armor too open for this and you would be forced to go all ribbed? Is there anything we could do to simulate the ribbing without going for full-blown, padded, non-breathable sweatsuits?

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
I use something similar to these (in black of course), thermal ribbed underwear, seperate tops and bottoms. The ribbing isnt as thick as I would expect it to be, but they are ribbed - if thats the effect that people are looking for.
http://outersports.com/mens-white-10...ar-p-2947.html
They are often hard to find at times other than wintertime, so look in stores now if you want to try them. The only downside is that I often get my velcro snagging on them.
I also have a typical motorbike undersuit, which tbh I prefer to wear becuase of the snagging issue.

I don't think those longjohns would work since they're thermals and that would mean anybody wearing those would cook really fast unless it's really cold out.
I wonder if anybody with serious sewing skills could possibly modify some Underarmor type suits by adding ribbing with something like strips of foam. Of course it might just be easier scratch building a seat from a moisture wicking material but I'm not sure that you can buy bolts of that kind of material anywhere.

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Well, in the Army we just got these new tops that we are supposed to use when we are deployed. We wear these when we will have our protective gear on, so it will keep the heat down, but still give us the pockets and such we need.
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/5529/dsc0281if1.jpg
Its sleeves are normal ripstop material, but then an underarmor like lycra material on the back and abdomen. I figure making 2 piece undersuits like that wouldnt be too hard.

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Interesting, I think it is do able.
*thinking*
:)

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Here is what the guys at Sci-Fire have as far as ribbed under suits are concerned. It looks like they are just gonna cover the parts that show and the rest will be the regular ST under suit. I think this is great idea Sci-Fire!

Can someone post some screen caps?

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
I think that the combat shirt style undersuit idea is a good one, it makes a lot of sense in that helps keep you (relatively) cool while maintaining the ribbed look seen on screen. Seeing as how both the Army as well as the Marine Corps issue/authorize a version of these for their troops would seem to me to be a pretty indicator that it works fairly well.

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
What about printing lines on an under armor type fabric?
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
This is the closest I could find http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/p...oducts_id/1872
Unfortunately they are only available to UK & Ireland.

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
If people wanted them, think you could perform a Middle man service dougie?

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Just received an email from them saying they no longer stock them, the search continues!!

....youve obviously not been to the UK for some time :lol
Ive worn them at indoor and outdoor troops and not had any problems or 'cooked' - at all. Bearing in mind that they are the only things that would be worn under the armour I cant see a problem (unless you wear anything to 'beef' up your look like a muscle suit too...which of course would cook you...).
Like the phrase says 'Go Commando' mate :D

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
A guy locally just uses a ladies black ribbed sweater.
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
hmmm.. i thought this would a tricky subject thats why i brought it up :D
but what with the guys at sci fire might prove something yet ;)

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
So, would you say the ribbing runs vertically, except for the neckseal, which runs horizontally?
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
It SEAMS to me that this would be best as two piece, a shirt and pants.
So we would need a neckseal, attached to the shirt. For the shirt the
sleeves, and yokes of the shirt would be ribbed. The main part of the chest and back could be a mesh, or cooling material. Does any ribbing to show on the sides of the torson? How important is the ribbing around the waist area?
For the legs, the ribbing is needed almost completely on the pants.
The only way to add a little air circulation for the pants would be, basically, strips of mesh material down the front and back of the legs. The rest would need to be ribbed.
Suggestions?

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
please forgive the awful paint attempt....
What about something like this......

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Hmmm I like it. Have you ever concidered doing a Biker Scout?
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
yeah this is the idea Debbi of your drawing vertical strips ;) and yes the neck seal would be attached to the undersuit too..shame it cant be made as one whole item or can it ??

The main parts to focus where the ribbing shows as from the photos from AOTC is in between the armour areas with this being said the ribbing certainly shows more around the clones upper chest/neck - neck seal areas.

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Okay. First off no laughing. This is what my buddy and I use under or clone trooper armor. Yes it is ladies clothing, but it was the closest material we could find. It isn't that bad on the heat side due the looser weave.
http://www.roamans.com/clothing/Rib-...&pref=cs&pos=2
They have pants, shirts, tunics, etc. We bought pants and shirts plus a tunic all in black for extra material to make the neck piece. I just hemed the pieces for a better fit and cut off the excess. I am sure Debbi could do a much better job with it, but it works and is really close to the look.

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
It would seam to me that it has to have some stretch. I was thinking more along the lines of lycra somehow. I would have to play around with it. Maybe a cotton lycra.

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Hey everyone I like the ideas being thrown around! I worked on the Sci-Fire prototypes and and have been working a few new patterns! These are the pics of the latest prototype!

http://sci-fire.com/images/DSC09278.JPG
I've got some more fabric on order to try some different things out, one actually has the the ribbing in it already! But well see what it looks like when it get here! I'll keep you posted on progress!

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Hey Lee,
That under suit looks perfect! What type of material is it? Hopefully it's breathable fabric coz it is definitely a match! Thanks for the info!

The reference I have suggests that there is either no ribbing at all on the neck seal or the ribbing is vertical on the neck seal. The horizontal lines are just folds from excess material.

How thick/heavy is that material? Will it absorb sweat pretty well?
This is what I use. The Craft undersuit partially achieves the ribbed look; the spacing between the lines is not as wide as I'd like them to be. Had to use a Sharpie black pen to remove the white threads. Got them from Backcountry and Trisports awhile back ago. Am looking for alternatives.

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Another option, don't know if there are matching pants.

That Craft logo and zip might prove a problem though!!

cant wait to see more on work ;)

any update on this Thundercat please....? I noticed on the site it now says '*Clone undersuit is back on track!'

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
hmmmm yeah any updates on the undersuit ??

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
I definitely would love to use the ribbed undersuit as well. But the main question is, how breathable is it and am I going to go from around 165 lbs presently to 145 lbs from loss of sweat while wearing it lol
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
I've been hunting for a ribbed undersuit for ages ( like everyone else here ). Thundercat if these are being made count me in bro.
Nice work.

1!
People who wear a Vader costume have the same problem but they manage to survive. I want a ribbed suit too... I love Thumpy's results!!

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Customsprops is selling clone undersuits on ebay, though they look very suede-leathery, I dont think they're that bad, the same guy that makes the vader undersuits.
Here is how I have my undersuit

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51...eelding029.png
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51...lding012-2.png
(Mine isn't a customprops undersuit by the way, it's custom made)
What I like about the thicker jumpsuits/underarmor, is that you can use snapbuttons to connect it to your armor, I've trooped several times like this , I avoid using straps as much as possible , on the other hand it's very warm indeed when your living in warmer regions.
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
Oh man, you're right, costume's base is selling a nice undersuit! And it has an affordable price. I have dealt with him a couple of times before and it has products with a good relation cost-quality.
Is there anything wrong with that undersuit? ... I think it's quite good.
I think I'll take one. Anyone else will do it too?
-
Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
....the costume base suit looks really loose and not at all close fitting. The ribbing also looks way too wide to me.
I think his sizing charts need some serious attention. Ive heard from many people that the sizing charts are wildly inaccurate when they get the items. I'll stick with my bikers undersuit till I see something better come along....

Re: Clone Trooper undersuit
I don't mind my body glove fitted Under Armor. I prefer the classic Stormtrooper look over the ribbed look anyway. Not technically canon, but oh well
