John, this applies to the Ep II clone troopers only, correct? These aren't seen on the Ep III clone troopers, right?

Interesting... some of the ref I have doesn't show them... weird.
The small thing to note, based on the above photos, the slots line up rectangularly, and the red drawing shows them as a parallelagram.
Where I think the two photos differ, is to whether the slots are parallel with the slope of the chest (Red) or parallel to the ground (Blue)? I prefer the notion of 'parallel to the slope of the chest,' as not all (fanmade)slopes are equal.
I am working on those slots this weekend. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to cut those in, and what tool (s) to use?
By any chance are those troopers wearing bandoliers?

some reference pics show them & some don't (even on the same kind of Clones)

Yes and no.
Actually, of the standard clone armor, all of the files had the pill shapes in them. There was a plug in the slots that could be hidden or not. Same with the DC-15 long and short. All of the files had both guns existing in the same space. One gun or the other was turned "off" so not to be seen. This of course only pertains to Episode III files. On occasion in the movie, you will see evidence of both guns being "on"

Slight variation... the two slits are rotated together, as a linked pair, to be parallel to the base line of the arcing chest line AND positioned horizontally, splitting the distance along the vertical plane of the vertical line that rises upward from the bottom right corner of the chestline.
I guess, they could be done either way... but to me, and looking at the screen caps, they do not appear to drop strait down, vertically, but are rotated together – and specific to the armor – to match the baseline of the base chest line. The bit I used was 1/16" for each corner... then I cut the line between the holes.
I made the template in July 2008 for the OSCS chest armor. I will post my template tomorrow... sleepy.
But I have a picture of the template taped to my chest armor.
AND, it looks more consistent... at least they are getting more similar looking.
Not to beat a dead horse, but just noticed another shot from the movie where the slots are missing. Wish I could get away with not cutting them into my armor... but my guy has them... crud.
