oh my god dougie, that is amazing. you've managed to capture that chewie essence that so many other costumes seem to lack.nice work
Holy Freaking Hell! If you ever start making these things for comission let me know. That is unbelievable
Holy moly!!! Awesome! Thatīs a fantastic Chewy! How much do you charge for one like that? (if you ever do it again! *LOL*)
I followed the thread, and the final product is stunning. You did an amazing job on this!
it looks amazing , well done
just had to add what an I N C R E D I B L E job you have done, this is a work of art it looks like the real thing, you have everything is spot on I always liked the walking carpet...............I want one :D !!!!
Here's a picture of me and Chewie in NYC a few years ago.
Are you wearing this Dave? As said on on the boards! COOL!
his lips are really white he looks like dave chappelle's tyrone biggums

lol but that thing looks awesome
Just a few more pics!

The mask was cast in platsil gel 10, really great stuff, takes hair punching really well.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...C_8523low2.jpg
Things to do:
1. Add some highlights to the mask, shorten brow hair
2. Add some more brown to the waist
3. On the next mask, add some deadner to the platsil around the lips to make them softer for lip snarl
4. Paint lips with brown/maroon acrylic ink or silicone pigment (was just using lipstick :lol)
5. Matt the overall costume down to stop the hair flowing while walking, trim upper arms slightly
The mask was a hell of a lot more intense work than I thought it would be, the next one will be easier, think I've weeded out most of the mistakes!
Been watching this and it is amazing. well done and thanks.
wow... That, is, AMAZING ... great work :D
WOW! Truly incredible work. I can't even imagine the hard work & time you have put into creating Chewie. PM sent .....
Truly amazing man!
This costume looks freakin' awesome up close....i saw it at the weekend at Invasion Dublin at its scarily like its an actual Wookie lol
Hi mate, that is exceptional. Will the mask be animatronic?
weequay

Leo

Absolutely amazing, dude! that is truly a mastepiece:thumbsup:cheering:thumbsup:cheering:thu mbsup
Wookiees must use a lot of hairproducts lol.
Anyway, great work, almost better than the movie...... wait what?
Are you going to make tarful in the future?
Holy frick frack batman !!! :suprise :wacko :cheering
That is superb brother ! I agree with your proposed tweaks
in future masks, but even as is ... it's THE BEST Chewbacca likeness
to date ! Amazing Job !
Very interested to see what you do with the eyes. For static display that is.
Even more interested to see what this looks like on your head !!!
Now ... where ... do ... we ... SIGN UP !! ;)
Chris
**** it, I just saw this....pm sent.
wow thats something else...amazing work!
I'm still in awe of this thread!
Amazing work and thanks for the reply to the pm.
I am just in awe of your talent. Never in a million years could I have done that!
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Completely mind blowing
Holy Cow! This is one of the most amazing builds I have ever seen; not to take away from all of the other awesome pieces I have come across here on TDH, but...WOW! Two things:
1. Thank you (on behalf of us Newbies) for showing such detailed progress pictures.
2. Where did you get the lifts?
Again....awesome job!
ok well im a newbie and I have been wondering the boards and I just have to say this is incredible and has giving me a lot to look forward to that someday I could have costume that is 1/4th as good as that. Totally amazing and a job well done kudos.
Thanks for all the compliments guys!
Have made some minor tweaks, added some more hair to the waist and head, still need to paint the lips with silicone pigment.

Shot of me in costume!
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...-hamleys-9.jpg
amazing!! but maybe you could make the top of the head more less poofy and more defined
Looks even more awesome since you made those tweaks Dave. I didn't think it could get any better!
I don't think it looks too 'poofy', remember this is a ROTS version that has a slightly broader profile to the head. It's the OT Chewies that have that slicked back look.
Amazing costume !!! It's great to see a short guy mixin it with the giants of this world. It just shows that anyone can become a Wookie thanks to your build. Hope your going to do a lot of trooping, the kids will absolutely love it. Keep up the the good work.
AMAZING! This is the closest thing I have seen to the costumes used for Star Wars Weekends here in Orlando. (Inside and out)
I would love to know how you made the leg lifts and how you applied the hair to the face.
What was the weight like and how was the heat?
And did the mesh irritate you?
I know a lot of questions for a noob, but you have to start somewhere.
P.S. Chewie has been known to use Lanolin and hair spray to hold his hair back and make it shine. ;)
HAHAHA are you in a Build-a-Bear store?
The leg lifts are made from just plastic paint drums with foam attached and reinforced with wooden broom handles to stop my ankle breaking.
The hair was punched into the silicone with a crown punch needle, it punches one hair at a time, took about 3 days!
I wore Underarmour sportswear underneath, sort of like a TK undersuit but designed to help your skin breathe.
So my skin is not in contact with the mesh.
The weight is not too bad, the whole costume weighs about 12kgs which isn't much when it's evenly distributed.
Currently working on an ESB Chewie, about half way through the shirt, the hair will be shorter and darker and the face will have the friendly Original Trilogy look!
This has got to be one of the best looking Chewies i have EVER seen outside the actual movie! Ive seen a few chewies, and they look good, but they dont have that chewie face...yours does! and you sculpted it yourself! You must have a great eye for what it would look like with the hair, cuz without the hair, it didnt look much like chewie, but with the hair....EXCELLENT! i am very impressed bro, i hope you get a few more chewies out there lookin this good! Great Job bro!
wow! i haven't been on here in a while and i'm totally blown away by what i just saw. i want one!!
Absolutely AMAZING! I'm SO impressed!
Dude just went through this for the first time. Simply jaw dropping amazingness (don't even know if that is a word).
Man, I keep coming back to this thread and drooling.
this costume is ...... well there are no words to describe ........., you are a very talented man, be great to see a Snoova/Chewie spinoff from this one
This looks absolutely fantastic! I am VERY impressed by how you did the head piece! The detail in the entire project is just phenomenal. Congrats on creating such an amazing costume!
I actually got to see this suit in person while it was here in Tampa... It is AMAZING! Great work.
I was sad to see it go, but feel privilaged to see a suit that was so dead on. I saw some at CV that were good but I really got spoiled by seeing this one first.
This is amazing ! I have a friend who did some weaving for a bigfoot costume and he, as well as everyone else that has commented on weaving has hated it. kudos to you for sticking to it and such an amazing job
Man this is an amazing build. While I have never done any weaving in particular, I have done some really slow, time-consuming processes like it, and I must say This is amazing! not to mention the sculpt, etc.!
This is a really great costume. It shows that Time, hard work and love for the character makes a great costume. Thanks for sharing.
Ruben
WOW, dude!!! Are you sure that isn't an original costume from the movie LOL??? There is some MAJOR talent on this board... Amazing, bro!
wow.. this was very well done! great job!
Wow! This looks amazing, and very inspiring.
If I hadn't seen the progress pics I'd swear you'd gotten it straight from the set. The colors in the fur look spot on.
I'm wondering, what did you do for the hands/gloves?
Seeing this really makes me feel like giving it a try myself, though I probably won't have the time for it until next summer.
Might I inquire about an estimate of how many packs of kanekalon you've had to use?
And would you happen to know a good online supplier, since I've never seen it for sale in packs anywhere, just as accessory braids and such.
Once again, brilliant work!
I can't believe how well Chewie came out. the best thing about the whole build for me is the fact that the genius who built it lives only a few miles from me. I never knew there were so many talented people in Ireland
^^^Agreed! Great Chewie. Really appeals to my impulsive side to go out and raid some wig stores, ha! :D
I'm actually wondering how you walk in this suit? Do you use your ankle as Chewie's knee?
Wow looks amazing!
Gosh,...that is so cool!!! How many hours did it take to put together? How much money? Like it alot!!!
just seen this thread .....amazing!!! what a talent....respect bro!
/floored! Amazing work my friend.
Absolutely beautiful work.
Man, i'm blown away! This is incredible work! You have some seriously MAD skills! Love it! Love it! Love it!
Absolutely amazing. (I have no clue if it's even possible to make a Chewie costume look better than that!) I assume it's very hot when you're wearing it?
:suprise
This is simply incredible!
Outstanding - simply outstanding!
Awesome work! I realize this is ana older post but it reslly deserves a bumps to the top! Just one question how hot is that suit?
This is so amazing I don't even know where to begin. The creativity of you is simply astounding. I wish I had just a bit of the imagination that you do. The finished product is perfect, simply perfect. (The fact that chewbacca is my favourite character ever doesn't have anything to do with it ;) ) yet again, AMAZING!!! :)
That is just awsome.
