Captain Rex

So I've posted this just about everywhere else, but why not another board too?

I'm working on a Captain Rex. The suit will be evolving over time... I'm starting off with a movie style clone kit, and once I'm done building it, I'm going to start my first ever vacuum forming project: replacing parts with more animated style armor.

In the mean time, I'm doing as much to the kit as I can to get it to have the look I want.

Elbow and knee armor attached to forearm and shin (no shin pic available):

Hand plates reduced in size with an extra bend added to the outside edge:

Wide, pointed end visor (Modified Hasbro):

I'm going to make one relatively quick Hasbro mod to get started, then I'm going to a new one with some earnest effort at Toon style. Basically a week on a "quick" one so that I have something, then I'll take however long it takes for the perfect one.

The shoulder bells I'm using are modified scout trooper, rather than normal clone, since they have a better shape for the toon than the "real" stuff. (the one on the right is the keeper)

The armor is as seamless as I can get it... I need a velcro seam in the shin, but all else is filled and smoothed nicely. The shin sculpt in my kit doesn't lend itself well to the OSCS style of seamless shins.

I'm making the Rex pauldron out of tooling leather:

It's all painted with rustoleum white primer for plastics, with black wash and grey acrylic weathering. I wanted to capture the vibe of the animation without it looking *too* cartoony...

I've got the torso assembled... all permanent connections. The shoulders to the chest armor and the biceps to the shoulders. It goes on like a t shirt.

The forearms slip on. I have to pull them up higher, put the gloves on, then pull the armor down over the gloves.

Handbacks have an elastic loop Gooped in.

Shins have velcro on the inside seam.

The ab and butt plates have velcro for the front and back.

I need to make the connections for ab to chest, butt to back, and thighs to ab.

I've got the base shoes to modify, but haven't started on that yet.

I still need to make the kama, holsters and pistols.

I'm going to start off with one of the Boba RF tops I've made, and resculpt it into the Rex style. I'm not just going to use a Fett one, since that won't look right at all.

More as it comes!

Awesome man!
Is that a resin copy of a Hasbro helmet or an actual Hasbro helmet? If it's a copy, gonna be selling any?:D

I'm going to be doing my very best to follow this thread as it progresses... Seeing as I'm planning to do the exact same style for my Rex.

Awesome work so far!

The anticipation of this project makes me want to do a cartoon version. I like all of the mods your making. Great idea!(y)
