I'm going for a simple ANH Han Solo for Halloween this year (my girlfriend is doing the slave leia thing) I got a cheap but decent costume from costume base. I really wanted to build an awesome blaster though. Something that I could display later. I bought a Denix mauser c96 and found a random kit on the rpf for a hero DL-44. So far the build has gone pretty well. Check it out:

Great kit you've got there! Can you tell me who you got it from? I really need that scope mounting bracket and the muzzle hider.

Kibosh it was a random kit from some guy on the rpf. He wasn't the maker. You could try contacting Corellian Exports Corellian Exports - Since 1999 He normally has parts for blasters and such.

Hey Kibosh. All I did for the weathering was rub some coarse grit sand paper on some choice spots (while looking at ref photos) For the scope bracket I actually used an exato knife to scrape the paint away.

For the paint itself I used a 2 stage process described to me by Superjedi. I used Duplicolor auto paint rattle cans. First I base coated the whole thing in universal gloss black. Once that dried I misted on Dark Metallic Blue till it looked right. I was going for a blued metal look (which couldn't have been done with real blueing because of the mix of materials.)

I'm really pleased with the results. The Metallic blue really took down the luster of the gloss almost like a dullcoat.

I'll post pics of the completed costume on Friday!

Is that some 'brass' I see on the ends of the scope? Nice touch!

Yup. Before I painted the black on I airbrushed some floquil brass on the end cap pieces so when I weathered them some brass would pop through.

Interesting. So the parts you used are metal, and that's just the bear metal showing through where you scratched off the paint?

Most of the parts are metal yes. The parts there were plastic don't have much weathering on them

X.X ew always disliked that gun and that blaster...good crftsmanship tho very convincincing...people could mistake it for being the prop used in the movie...
