Well Met!!!

Lath Toth

Jr Hunter

Hi everyone! My name is Doug and I'm new to TDH! I learned of TDH from a friend who is in the process of building himself some Mando Armor. I decided to join when I found Wizardofflight's pattern for the Range Finder. Many thanks, bro! You really saved my butt! I'm in the middle of converting my nephew's
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Clone Trooper Voice Changer from Hasbro into Captain Rex for him. I attached a pic of the helmet with the paint job to this post. I'll post another once I finish the Range Finder. But, in the mean time I've been browsing all of the forums and I'm totally impressed by everyone's work! I'm an experienced leather worker and I have limited experience in casting with silicones and plastics. Any help in the future would be greatly appreciated and I would gladly give help when asked.

When the Captain Rex Project is done, I'm planning to build a Custom Republic Commando Suit or an ARC Trooper. Wish me luck! And thanks to all for assembling such a great forum!

Very nice Doug! My 4 year old nephew wants to be Darth Vader next Halloween. I'm going to wait and see if he changes his mind (as 4 year olds do).

I'm still debating wether to make a Boba or a custom. So far I'm mainly doing research.

You may be able to work on holsters, belts, and such for people.

Another site of interest I found helpful http://mercs.firespray.net/main/

Good luck with your projects!

Well gang, I haven't hit full membership yet. Not for at least another 9 days. I do have some questions and this is the only place I can start a new post. I don't want to change the subject or take attention from anyone else's threads by injecting a different topic. So, here goes...

As I've already mentioned, I am an experienced leather worker, but I have very limited experience with plastics. The most I've done is make a couple of gang molds out of some P-45 for small parts and cast it in TASK-2. That's it. No more experience in that field.

What I'd like to ask is, for a first time builder with no experience, what do you all recommend for a good, durable material that will take a hell of a beating? And who has the best, detailed tutorials for building everything (especially the Helmet)? Think of something along the lines of "Helmet Building for Dummies." All advice is greatly appreciated! And if you boys need help with leather I can return the favor.

Wizardofflight has various templates. Just search under a topic such as Helmet, or Armor, or Jet Pack, and usually there is a sticky thread on templates.

Good luck!

hey man - welcome

if u are interested in clones - have gander over the clone empires forums - lots of useful info over there ;P

as for making stuff - I am in the saem position u are. Wait the 9 days and have a look at the thread I started in the Prop Work Shop area.

I think in the old days fibgreglass was king. Now with liquid plastic technology as it is; seems to be the new way forward (check out smooth on website - their you-tube vids are great!). Personally - i am prob headed this way with a slicone mold and smooth-cast or roto-cast liquid plastic resin.

if u are going the way of WOF - most people back it up with FG resin or FG itself or bondo.

a 3rd option, is the way lots of Halo armor/helmet makers are goign (check out the 405 forums as well); pep folded paper with FG resin and bondo. More and more people are also puttin together pep models for clones.

before u have posting rights up - try reading through the prop workshop section (soz not sure if thats possible); I spent abt 2 days literally reading through all the posts in sequence - loadsa gems of info there!

if u need more info on clones (including RC) - I have done a fair amt of research on wots available if u are interested.

Good luck!

oh forgot to add - for a Cpt Rex ; I think stormtrooper_guy has put together a cossie whichi just looks the business! Ands that helmet to toe!

Nate

Timmer, Heatshock thanks a bunch guys! Been looking over the stuff you said and I think I'm going to get started ASAP. When I get to the RC project I'll drop you a line Nate. Thanks again, man.
