Journey of a thousand miles...

New Hunter
Hey everyone,

I am BRAND NEW to these forums, and pretty much the whole costuming world. I have a deep love and respect for all things Star Wars and have always daydreamed about getting involved in costuming, though. I've always had a special soft spot in my heart for the most ruthless bounty hunter in the galaxy, and recently getting started on Karen Traviss's Republic Commando novels has made me fall in love with the Mando'a all over again.

What I wanted to ask of all you wonderful experienced people, keeping in mind that I have no experience, minute funds (university student! :p) but a VERY LARGE imagination, is, where do I start? I've had thoughts of trekking down to my local military surplus store for basics and doodads - what do I need to know? I know this is a big undertaking, so let's start with baby steps. :D

Thanks all, looking forward to getting to know you!

welcome to tdh, your best place to start is to search the boards, read the wiki and soak up as much knowledge as you can. Look for WOF templates for your armor, and check into the trashcan method.

First thing you do is cash out your college fund and set up a direct payment plan to BobaMaker. It will save you the headaches and hard feelings of a small budget and smaller time frame...IMO!!! Cheers and welcome!!!

If I could, I would have. XD Unfortunately, the "college fund" consists of my parents. Let's review that conversation:
Me: "hey mom, I need some money for some stuff. I may need to drop out of school, but that's okay, right??"
My mom: *blink* What?

XD I think for now, I'll have to take N_E_F's (can I abbreviate you? is that okay?) advice and occupy my time with hunting and planning. I'll have fun sketching and designing while I'm waiting to get a job. :p

Thanks for your help, guys.
