Hi from Philly burbs

New Hunter
Hello everyone. New to the board and I am so glad that i found it! I'm a 40 year old Star Wars fan from the Philly suburbs, luckily enough to be married to a Star Wars fan and raising a 10 year old Star Wars fan! :)

Over the Christmas holiday break from school, my son and I started talking and decided it would be cool to build our own Mando armor and custom paint it. Several years back, we created a family "pirate flag" and we decided that it would cross over well to the Star Wars world (with some adaptation), and our armor should match this flag (black and red colors).

I'm pretty handy, but had no idea how we'd go about creating this armor, so I did what anyone would do- I Googled it! That Google search lead me to this site and a thread on trash can armor. Seemed like an easy, economical option for us. Unfortunately, the trash can used in that thread is not available anymore, so I'm searching high and low for cans with the "right curves". Wait a second- that didn't sound right!

I've downloaded templates for my son and for me, and am now trying to find the right trash cans. I've checked a bunch out at Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Ace and Big Lots, and think I may have narrowed it down.

Now, for the most important part of the costume, the helmets ... Well, I didn't want to spend a fortune on these, especially since our first attempt at painting them may not look that great. I did a search on Craigslist, and came across one of those Hasbro helmets for $10, so I emailed the person. Turned out they lived 15 minutes away from me, so I went and picked it up. I know its not the greatest helmet in the world, but it'll do for now. I picked up another one on eBay for $16. I actually got a third one as well, to sit on the "Boba Fett" shelf in my office (I also have a Darth Maul shelf, a Superman shelf, and a Miami Dolphins shelf). BTW- the third one was $25, but was sold as a package with a Darth Vader helmet and an Iron Man helmet. Eventually we'll upgrade to better helmets, but like I said, for now, they'll do.

In any case, if any one can offer any kind of assistance or advice, I'm glad to listen!

Welcome aboard! Go ahead and poke around the boards, they're full of info. Don't be afraid to use the search button, you'll find everything ya need. Have fun!

Could anyone recommend a nice helmet that not going to cost a fortune? Like I said, we're using the Hasbro ones for now, but would like to upgrade at some point.
