    Nov 14, 2008, 12:14 PM - Hello! #1

Hi, just found this forum to post introductions. I'm a newbie of course, but have been perusing the forums for awhile. I'm married with 2 little ones and live in southern California. I came across this board after some friends invited us to a costume party for his birthday last month, and I decided to go as Boba Fett. I started researching some custumes, and came across this forum. Of course, there wasn't enough time or money to do a real Fett costume in time for the party, so I bought a Rubies Fett costume (with the cheesy 2-piece "helmet" and suit that looks like pajamas) for the event. But in the process, I got hooked into this board, and am now in fact in the process of doing a scratch-build helmet!

I've always been a big fan of Star Wars since I first saw the original in 1977 when I was 7 years old (ya, that makes me 38!), and Boba Fett was always one of my favorite characters. I didn't really like the whole Boba / Jango clone thing, I preferred it when he was just a ruthless bounty hunter of mysterious origins.

Anyway, I look forward to completing my helmet, and then moving on to hopefully one day have a complete costume. I really like the idea of scratchbuilding, both from a budget perspective and the "I made this" perspective. I look forward to reading about all the great scratchbuilding that people are doing, and plan to contribute my own progress as well. Many thanks to the owners of this forum and especially Alan for his excellent templates without which none of this would be possible.

Welcome to TDH brother! I look forward to see your helmet! I'm also constructing a scratch build. I'm pretty new here too. You aren't alone, brother.

Many thanks for the welcoming party here! This seems like a very close-knit community here! I like the fact that is is a very "family friendly" board!

Yeah, I'm discovering that! The bondo-sand-bondo-sand-bondo-sand stage is a slow go. I had it very smooth, but I had sanded down to the plastic in places and it was not a smooth transition, so it wouldn't have looked good after priming. So I just now got done slapping another layer on it. Ah...more sanding...

yeah that process with the bondo sanding x4 LOL is a little boring, but when you star seeing the smothness coming around you become proud of the piece you are making ^_^

Yes I agree, it does seem to be a close knit family. I am also new and really hope to accomplish something by learning by the experience of others! This certainly looks like the place to be.
