New Hunter
New member here. I'm joining unlike most of what I've seen of members here. My primary goal is not a dented helmet costume, but rather car. I have a 1998 Corvette and for about a year (or more) I've been wanting to turn my car into Fett's Vette. I priced out paint jobs from local shops and encountered some outrageously priced quotes that ultimately didn't give me confidence that they would get it right. After I had lost hope, I had stumbled across Ivor Fett (the wrapped Hyundai Veloster). Inspiration regained! Not wanting to appear to be a copycat, I contacted the owner and we have discussed moving forward with my car. Let's just say I'm supported in my efforts. I just ordered the custom plates yesterday.

I have a reasonable rough quote from a guy who does wraps locally (and does a good job). Now I'm at the impasse of design. Ivor Fett is designed after the helmet. As wonderful as that car turned out, it's not quite my goal. I would like to make it look more like ESB Slave I, but with some accents from the armor if they'll fit into the overall design. I am not strong in the artistic department, at least when discussing color and design. My best efforts in that field extend to working hard at staying inside the lines. Ivor Fett's owner has been kind enough to give me a template for design on my model of car, but I'm still working to find a useable copy of Adobe Illustrator to work with. I have an old copy of Photoshop 7, but I haven't used it in years and never was very proficient with it. This is my first and primary goal for the car.

My secondary goal is to paint my racing helmet in line with the ESB helmet. Once I finish the my latest work (this Friday) I will be scheduling a trip to the local drag strip. I won't say that car it built, but it's been modified. I'm slowly working it up into a good drag car while retaining its ability to be my daily driver. I digress. I will be looking to paint the helmet as well.

My final goal, once all the above and other hurdles of life are past, I will want to make a full ESB costume (the RotJ color diversity drives me insane). I want to be able to take the entire get-up to do charity events, conventions, and whatever else fits my fancy.

I also currently have no plans for the interior. I've debated trying to get wildly custom to try to get it to reflect Slave I's interior. There isn't much out there showing that, but the little bit that is seen will present a significant challenge that I'm not willing to take on for a long time.

This is no doubt an expensive endeavor. I have contemplated starting a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for it, but I'm not sure if it's really reasonable for something like this or it would get traction. I'd love some feedback on that.

As for me, I'm an Army veteran (8 years active duty) who is going to school. With the help of my veteran's benefits, I will be getting my bachelor's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Interdisciplinary Studies with minors in Global Security & Intelligence and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. I will be graduating in about 3 weeks and I can wait to see where life takes me (also translates to "I'm still looking for a job").

Thank you, folks, for your time and interest that I know will be expressed on this project in the coming months and years. With any luck, it will kick off as well as I hope and I will eventually meet many of you at major gatherings. For now, cheers!

Welcome to TDH! Unmanned aerial vehicles is booming right now. As a commercial pilot I wish I would have ventured into that career path. Best of luck to ya and thank you for your service!

Thank you all for the welcome! (turns out I had notifications turned off...boo)

I should be posting some concept design(s) of the wrap by the end of next week. I'm graduating is this weekend, so I'm busy as can be until that's done. If you guys are interested in following the project, the Facebook page is here:

...and I'm sure there's a better forum category to discuss this project in than the Greetings page. Where should I put the conversation since most categories appear to be about costuming...The Sarlacc?
