Kerys

New Hunter
Su'cuy, ner vode! Name's Chris, but in a galaxy far, far away, I tend to go by Kerys. I'm 31 years old, and I've been a SW fan for every minute of it. I attended the original theater run of ANH in the womb, and got first laughs and then boos for shouting "lightsaber" every time one appeared on screen during ESB. As a youngling, I thought Boba was kinda cool, but I never got the big deal about mandos until Karen Traviss opened my eyes. After years of attending Dragon*Con & thinking about joining a fan organization, I'm finally about to put in my application with the RL for an old republic Echani jedi, I'm half-way finished with my imperial gunner, and I've just started an Asajj Ventress & a custom mando. I've lurked on these boards for a while, admiring the incredible work you've all put in on your beskar'gam, and just generally being inspired.

So... Thanks for making such a great place and for filling it with such cool people and things... And if I ever get a digital camera I'll start posting progress shots of my beskar'gam.

Ni dar par skraan… Ret’!

I just noticed that the forum automatically links certain terms to the wiki... That's AWESOME! We should add a mando'a glossary and automatically link to that, too, for our less literate vode...

This is a costuming community. I'm sure by a lot of the people who would like to just build a costume rather than take on an imaginary culture, it would be appreciated if the use of the language decreases.

Not that I can really stop it, when a French member posts on the board, I will reply in French because I speak it. French is a real language though.

I have to agree with you here. I'd reply in German to a German post, but I've been more than a little turned off by the recent prevalence of the "language" as of late.

Yeah, it seemed interesting at first, but I really don't have any desire to see it in every single post.

On topic though, welcome to TDH! :cheers

Wow. Way to stomp on the newb's enthusiasm.

I hate to step on toes, but while I respect your opinion, the fact that the first person to post in the topic did so with two sentences of Mando'a implies that not everyone agrees with you.

And I'm fully aware that it's a costuming community. Thanks for the condescension.

I don't think that was specifically targeted at you alone; it was a general "People need to stop using this made-up stuff" because it has really spread here recently; a great deal of it is from people that have just joined within the past few months, and it's always because of Karen Traviss' writings. That's why I think he said it. Enthusiasm isn't bad, but please try to remember that this is primarily a Boba Fett forum, and he didn't speak Mandalorian.

She can write decent stories, and the RC books were pretty good, despite the obvious bias, but a rather large number of people in the greater SW community (not just here) oppose her for some of the things she's done in the Expanded Universe and some well-publicized interactions with fans. Google "Travissty" if you really want to know. I realize that a few specific people are probably going to jump to her side and defend her here now that I've said it, but GCNGamer is merely stating what I feel is obvious, and I have to agree.

Don't get me wrong; I really enjoyed the RC books, but the LOTF series was completely trashed. So, I'm not just bashing her for being a terrible writer at all; only for a number of specific major issues within the books. It's just that not everyone here necessarily likes the so-called "Fandalorian" viewpoint. That's all.

Thanks for being civil about it, anyway. I may've over-reacted a tad, but it's kind of a slap in the face to introduce yourself and have the second person to respond not even bother to say "hi" before jumping you.
