WIP Koval Nar, custom mando

Koval Nar

New Hunter
So, I've been posting various WIP shots of my custom Mando for a while at Mercs, and I thought I'd pop over here and cross post a bit. Just various bits and pieces. I should be getting my gauntlets in a few days, and I should hopefully have some full complete body photos a few days after that. Let me know what you think!

The end result should look like a custom action figure I did earlier this year...

Looks good!!! The helmet is very good looking!

Two things you might want to consider doing:

1. Micro damaging the plates more; plates have a tendancy to chip around the edges just a tiny bit instead of just lots of large chunks of paint missing.

2. In order that you can walk correctly, you might want to add a slit in the back of the kama so it looks more like this |__/\__| that adds to your range of movement and comfort while trooping.

Good looking gear mate!!!

Huh, the helmet is probably the thing I'm least happy with at the moment. :) One man's trash, I guess...

And yeah, I think I'll go over the edges of the plates and add more exposed metal and grey primer. I've tried chipping some away, but I've already sealed it, and anything I chip away ends up going to the bare white sintra.

As for the split, I'd like to, but that sounds kind of ambitious to me, to add the slit and still have the trim look decent. The kama was the first time I used a sewing machine. Like everyone here, I'm sure I'll upgrade it bit by bit as my skills improve.

Thanks for the advice!

****. you sealed it? why?

add some more layers of paint again and start again with the weathering/chipping. wouldn't hurt!

:D

Looking ever so slightly amazing. This is a projecy I certainly want to see more of.

Is the armour fully weathered yet? if so, how did you go about it? It's something I'm a little stuck on myself....

Pacx

Thanks, guys! I've got a few quick shots to show some of the weathering.

The weathering on these was done with Tamiya Weathering Master A Set,
crushed pastels in burnt umber and rust colors, ash from my Weber grill, lightly sprayed brown paint (don't recall the exact shade, something brown from Citadel), a broken bronzer from my wife's makeup, and some thinned down burnt umber oil paint. More than you probably wanted to know, eh? :)

Well, I put on all the gear I have done (everything but the gauntlets, with some work needed to get the armor on the vest more securely), at the insistence of my three-year-old son/photographer...

One thing I'd say (only from that photo mind) is that the Kama looks like it's pulled in too far at the front, which could restrict movement or catch.

But I could be wrong :)

Where did you get those gloves Vod, I have been looking for a few of those.

By the way, really nice work.

Black nomex flight gloves off of eBay. Very comfortable, for about $20. You've got to get a pair that match your colors, though, since nomex can't be dyed, not easily at least.

Thanks for the compliments, all! As for gaunts, I'm not sure yet, probably just standard Fett-style gaunts.
