Vest problems

Hey guys,
i've hit a snag in my armour making progress, and was wondering if i could ask for assistance. I own a set of metal armour from WB, and a leather vest from LS. I have ruled out velcro due to the "sticky" mess it creates when heated up that Tubachris showed us, and snaps because they will destroy my very expensive vest if i place them wrong. I have decided on using rare earth magnets to secure all the armour in place, but am not sure which ones to use, placement, etc. The metal armour is slightly thinner than the 'glass or sintra variety, so means it wont be going anywhere once stuck in place with the magnets. Any suggestions or precedents set in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I have decided on this method only for the upper body, all other pieces have been sorted with how they will be secured.

Cheers in advance,
Matt

if i read this right (oo man i hope i did) and you use magnets then placement can be trial and error as long as you don;t glue anything down. use painters tape to hold the magnets on the back of the vest and armor, then try try again.

But if you want exact placement of magnets .... i am not one to say. i have yet to do that myself. hope i helped a little

I have experimented with magnets, and I found that even though my armor is metal you need to go magnet to magnet for a good hold, not just magnet to the armor, as it will slide around because of the backing I use.first have someone help you apply the armor to the vest using some tape on the backside, and trace a faint line around it with some kind of removable chalk or pencil, then you will know where to put the magnets on the vest .Use goop to hold them on and let it dry 24 hours.
After that is dry, put the other set of magnets right on top of the ones on the vest, and put some goop on the back of those. Then just simply lay the plates on the magnets.the attraction will hold the magnets to the armor as the goop dries.
after all that you should be good.
also, I wanted to point out, on the velcro. If you lay a thin layer of goop on the sticky side of the velcro, and let it dry, it will not melt.Goop remains hard yet flexible.I have not had a problem with it at all.
When you get magnets, I use the super strength magnets found at michaels craft store.
they are just thin little discs.Brand name is promag item number 60001.

Thanks guys, i will be working with these magnets, have 20 on the way, if they go well ill finish the rest of the vest with these :

Seven, i did love the idea of that method, but unfortunately it would totally destroy my vest knowing my crafting skills, and WB's stuff is thinner than the 'glassed stuff. As mentioned above, the extensive use of magnets will make it easier to modify/sell, god help me the day i ever have to. Snaps and velcro, especially on a leather vest are too finite for me to be happy about.

WB, Cheers on how to put those magnets in place, i was going to use a little from column A and B there, sew the "vest" mags into the inside, and stick the other magnets to the corner points of the armour. When they get here i'll try to dig out my progress thread and post up there.

Thanks for the assistance brothers!
