*UPDATE #5- Mandalorian Imperial Mercenary. ARMOR PROGRESS

I've made some random posts, but figued it was time to start a thread for this project so I'm not littering it in other people's threads.

    here's what I've got:

The rough concept, I've already made some changes, but still the general idea.

This is my Rifle, there are many others like it, but this one is mine!

Jet Pack redesigned. BigaboyFett pointed out in another thread that my sketch jet pack looked similar to McQuarrie's concept. This was unintended, so I've made some revisions, still in the early planning stages.

Though he collects an imperial paycheck, he's still a Mandalorian. Here's the logo:

The bucket concept. The orginal photo was of an ESB bucket i found online, author unknown. I photoshoped it for the sake of reference:

Thats it so far, I'll be posting updates, pics etc. I am as always open to suggestions and criticisms.

    Cheers!

What you could use for a JP is the ones that the stormtroopers have on Battle Front. Or at least get a idea from there.

Looks pretty scary. You will be a Fett for our nightmares! One tiny observation. Your rockets on the jet pack...they may be prone to, hypothetically, explosive combustion due to heat from the lateral positioning above and perpendicular to the fuel cells within the unit...ohhhh, never mind! It is the way you like that truly matters and we should follow our dreams rather than be pushed to change!!!!...a big a glass 'O wine tastes delicious after a long and shippy tay ad tee offiss! Rock on my CHRISTOV!

    ;-p

    Night!

you're probably right, I may extend the axl a few more inches on each side so that they wouldnt be super-heating the fuel tanks. LOL. See, THIS is why I post here! Cheers, mate! oh yeah, slam one for me too!

I like it a lot!!! Have you thought about possibly incorporating some Vader or Stormtrooper armor into it?? Might give a flare to bridge the gap

Yes! I am going to sport some imperial officer riding boots, and a scout blaster side arm.

That's not a bad idea at all. Only problem is, I thought that game sucked so I returned it. can someone send me a screen shot of a Darktrooper jet pack from the game or otherwise?

I've been looking for a definitive pic since you posted that, shortimer, but I havent found one yet.

Kewl concept.. but have you thought about using stormtrooper shoulder bells and chest armor instead of Fett armour? I think that would look really cool and make it look more imperial. Also maybe Vaders Shin guards..?

As I'd mentioned earlier, I'll be getting some Imperial Officer riding boots and a scout-blaster, but perhaps you're right; I might add some TK armor segments. Gloves are a good possibility, maybe thigh armor as well, but it will definately all be black.

    *Update*
Bondo... James Bondo. That should be my new name after several attempts to fill in the dent and actually wind up with a smooth contour thats flush with the rest of the helmet; thats harder than it looks!

anyway, got that done. Next I made a sketch of where i wanted the new battle damage to go. The big gash going across the face is the signature; I carved it into the plastic so that after its all said in done, it will have a nice depth effect.

...It's so god-d^mned cold here, one coat of spray takes about 24 hours to dry.

    More to come!

The bucket is -close- to being done. Obviously the RF is not installed. The inside lacks the proper trimmings. but the outside is just about where I want it.

Installing the visor, in a word, sucked. It's going to look sloppy under a microscope. I'd do it all over if my patience weren't wearing thin.

anyway, here it is so far:

looks great, maybe you can put some blood stains on the helmet, that would be even more cool.

I was toying with the idea of putting a bloody hand print on it, but I don't know how well it would show up... Since you've suggested it though, I may do some experimenting with a semi-transluscent crimson paint on a black surface.

the dots towards the bottom are just possible places to put little splatters especially towards the bottom of the visor.

    sweet.

I think stage blood is the way to go with this, should it be implemented. That way if it comes out looking like i did a face-plant in a jello mold i can wipe it off. It will also look more life-like than paint.

    cheers!

Christov that bucket is looking sweet! You have the coloring just right! I was a bit skeptical, but all I can say is....you definately pulled it off. I can't wait to see more. (Also glad you didn't loose any digits while trimming up the vinyl monster)

    Keep it up!

Awesome.. that gash across the helmet had got to hurt!!

anyways.. instead of blood, have you considered just having mud and grime running down the helmet?

Another excellent idea. probably a more plausable one as well.

Here's the Jet Pack. I knew I'd kept those old Whey protien cans around for something. its nearly completed except some detail drybrushing, etc. I'm also considering adding some more plastic contour to the outside of the frame so its not so flat, but at this point I'm unsure what shapes to use and how complex this needs to get before I call it "done". not all of the parts are permanently plastic-welded together yet, so speak now or forever hold your peace.

    Cheers!

Lookin' sweet my Dark Fett Man!

Are you going to be at C3? It will be easy to find each other. Here is the story...

Christov - "Hey, anyone seen a big white mando commando?"

John - "Hey, anyone seen a totally black and grey Imperial Fett? Wow, you look good.....DOH, OW"

Chris to Christov - "Oh, you are looking for John...he is over there getting beat up by Mirax's husband!"

Mirax - "Honey, stop beating up John, he is just giving me my Darth Maul bumper vinyl for my car!"

John - "OW! Where is my possie? HEEELLLPPP!

GEO - "Hey, John is getting whipped, let's help! CENO, SLAVEFIVE, KINDREDJEDI...back me up!

CENO - "Sure, but I am busy with all these hotties, and I am the only single guy here."

SLAVEFIVE - "John, I am coming! Quick, give me your credit card so I can close out the room first!"

KINDREDJEDI - "I have to be careful, my Sintra armor may shatter! Besides, John is 250 lbs. of pure, powerful, super-focused...lethergy"

Mirax - "Sorry John, every nerd in a helmet hits on me..."

    John - "bu..bu..but all I, I w..w.ww..wanted to do is g..give you your sticker."

    Mirax - "John, stop whining."

    THE END

Thanks guys! and I was still thinking it looked like a trash-can in disguise. Think it's ok as-is?

John, Biomechanoid, I hate to say it, but I am a no-go for C-3. I'm going to Germany around that same time, and my travel funds are pretty much shot. Will this be the last of the Star Wars Celebrations?

I AM planning on catching a ride to the San Diego Comicon in July; best I can do. Any chance you all will be there too?

    Cheers!

Chest, leg armor. I was planning on usin the logo pictured above on the left shoulder bell.... oops. now that I look at the photo, the bells were switched. oh well. use your imagination.

I was thinking of using the emblem pictured below on the right breastplate. whats the best way to handle this? stencil cut out of blue tape? or will vinyl decals work on a convex surface? what have the rest of you done on yours?

    Cheers.

For my emblems, I bought some airbrush stencil film and cut out the shapes from that. Worked nicely. Painters tape may also work.

Good luck, costume is lookin awesome.

Looks awesome...I gotta admit you definately have a very refreshing and original idea. By far, you have got to have one of the most stunning homemade jet packs that I've seen to date. You really know how to run away with a concept. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see this baby when you are through.

Re: *UPDATE #5- Mandalorian Imperial Mercenary. ARMOR PROGRESS

thanks for all of the compliments! they've warmed my black little heart.

Recent developments on this project include:

An imperial scout blaster w/holster. This will be my Mando's sidearm. The blaster, if made off of the Kenner, is quite easy to modify. however, making the holster gave me a new-found respect for the scout troopers as it is VERY difficult to construct and have it look right. I had to glue about three pieces of sintra at once, then bondo; like using concrete on a house of cards. here's a reference photo of what I'm talking about:

I'll post pics of how all that went in a day or so.

The more recent issue is that of the back-plate and collar. This is definately the hardest part so far. I've shaped and re-shaped my back-plate about 8 times and I've concluded that either the pattern was off or that it was just too big. I'll try trimming it and shaping it some more before I give in and cut out a new one; I'd hate to waste all that sintra. ANY pointers on this part are GREATLY appriciated.

Thanks again, everyone. I'll post new pics sometime tomorrow.

    Cheers!

Hey, looks really awesome so far! (Especially the jet pack. ****. )

Let me know how the bloody handprint works out if you decide to do it. My Mando has blood splattering on her helm, but I was thinking of using acrylics. They wipe off easily enough with a paper towel when still wet.

Also, if you still wanted to see it, here's a screen of a Dark Trooper from Battlefront. I apologize for the angle. It's the only shot I had that didn't require me to get back on the game and take another, heh..

Hey folks. The project is back in the works. I should have it done in time for the Comic Con. I do have one slight problem though, the tailor I had making the neckseal and flakvest has dropped off the face of the earth. Does anyone know who can crank out a set in dark gray or black at short notice?

Keep us posted on your progress man! That suit is gonna be cool! As far as someone who makes awesome soft parts pretty darn fast, I'd check with TK409. Awesome neckseal he makes! Vest too!

The gauntlets are ESB, possibly with a different rocket if I feel up to making a custom one. They're close to being finished, I'll probably post pics of them this weekend as well as the newly completed backplate, codpiece, etc.

BobaMaker is taking care of the vest, neckseal which will be a dark slate gray so as to vary up the texture a bit.

Just saw this thread - That's neat as hell. TBH, from the concept drawing, it seemed to me to be another "It's Boba Fett, but VERY slightly changed" effort.
Not at all. I especially love the jet pack.

The skull logo is sweeeet, too.
What's the gun? Sterling base, with underslung M203 and an MP5 stock?
    Custom extended barrel?

On the weapon, you're close. the m203 is actually some PVC, but m203 is what I was shooting for (no pun intended). the stock is very similar to the mp5, took it off my paintball gun, thats also where I got the barrel.

Gauntlets are almost done. Vest, Neckseal should arrive soon. The bad news is that I won't be making the san diego comic con this year either. everyone bailed at the last minute and I can't afford to go alone.

stencil cut out of painters tape is what i found was best for curved surfaces. thats what i did for the logo on my helmet after i covered the battle damage.
