    Ugly duckling RC helmet

DONE!!I scored this ....beauty......on Ebay for $70 bucks. I knew it would need serious attention but I was empty without an on going project. As you can see, the previous owner cut four holes on the front of the bucket which, if I'm not mistaken, are not supposed to be there. I started by "dremmeling" out the bottom which was really small. Could not fit anyones head in there. Next I sanded off most of the primer and then filled in those strange holes with Mighty Putty. That stuff is great by the way. I then tried to even out the interior thickness and put joint compound on the horribly visible seam on the back. More pics to follow, I have a grand vision and I cant stop now!

Outstanding! A good RC project to watch! Gotta love those commandos.

    UPDATE

Got most of the holes and pits filled in but the seam on the back still needs a little work. I had considerable grinding to do on the inside top of the visor opening to accomadate the EL wire that I just ordered. It will be a blue/green about 2.2 mm in diameter. I had to dremmel most of the "grooves" in the helmet because the "lands and grooves" were not at all consistant. I have also ordered a bright white LED for the right ear piece and I think I found a budget priced mirrored visor. Next step, more snading and priming.....

Little update..... Went with black and obviouslly, battle damaged. Next comes the earpiece and LED light. Got the visor in the mail today. Alot thicker than I anticipated, not looking forward to cutting and installing. This is my first attempt at an RC helmet and I'm just winging it so comments or critiques are welcome.

Installed the lights, I hollowed out the right ear cap to fit a cheap LED snake light. I drilled a hole in the side of the bucket and fed the light through. I taped the snake light on the inside and left the push button toward the lower rear of the helmet for easy access. Next I installed the EL wire over the visor and secured the power source with velcro so it will be easy to change batteries.
Next, visor install with the "T-nut method" then padding. ALMOST THERE.

Thanks alot bro! I appreciate you looking there.

This project of yours is really apt for me. See, my next helmet model is rolling up soon, a friend is just finishing drawing up the blueprints for it.

    It's the Republic Commando!

Thanks very much! I've got about $180 in it, considering the work I've put in I'm looking to sell it for $6,842. Any takers?

Secured the "t-nuts" with mighty putty, I was going to glue the visor in but now it is removeable, just in case of future damage. I know the "t-nut" install has been posted here before but it truly is the best way to put in a visor. Have to credit either spideyfett or batninja for that, can't remember which.
That pretty much does it! Republic commando Omega Squad reporting for duty!

Nice work! Loving the mirrored visor! This was a pretty short project but well worth reading over.

    Now, about that $6,842....

    LOL!
