Two part question about armor
Question #1:
Is it a cliche to have wepons match the paint scheme of armor?
I just thought of this as I was adding some red to my black handgun so it would stand out a bit against my armor.
I have most of my arsenal with black as the base color and red details. The only thing that steers away from this is my silver hilted, red bladed saber (the $7 toy from wal*mart).
Question #2:
How do some of you guys get your girlfriends to armor up? I'm trying to get mine to Mandalorian for Halloween, but she won't do it. What would be the best way of convincing her?
Thanks,
ZK:jaster

Re: Two part question about armor
1.) I always found it a bit cliche to have matching armor and weapons; weapons are usually black, which goes with pretty much anything.
2.) All I can say is "Good Luck;" my own girlfriend refuses as well. She dressed up as a Jedi for one Con, and absolutely detested stopping for constant pictures. She refuses to do any more costumes.
For yours, I'd suggest bargaining; tell her that if she armor's up like a Mandalorian, you'll do something for her. Whatever she wants. That's the best advice I can give.
-
Re: Two part question about armor
Answers:
1) Yes, weapons rarely are any other colours save black, chrome, gun metal blue or in the case of some military weapons have green parts on them.
2) As to your girlfriend don't try and force her. Given time she may see you out and about at events ect and get the bug that way, but otherwise you don't stand much of a chance if she's already said no.
-
Re: Two part question about armor
My comment is to your second question. I've tried to get my fiance to go in costume but she flat out refuses to, so I don't push the issue. If you ask more than a few times and the answer is the same, my advice is don't give up, but don't pester. There are some fights a Mando just can't win.

Answer #1 - Yes.
Answer #2 - You can't make a woman do anything... :lol

Spoken like a true man Ripcode.

Re: Two part question about armor
#1, you can do pretty much whatever you want with a custom...
#2, just be glad she lets YOU dress up
-
Re: Two part question about armor
1) You can't go wrong with flat black on a weapon. Chrome if you want to be pimp about it.
2) My GF thinks I'm fraking nuts dressing up... whether it be the Mando - or anything else - save 1 costume --- my Praetorian/Roman soldier. She has a slave princess outfit she'll wear with that because its sexy. Otherwise... forget it. She thinks I'm a nutball.

Re: Two part question about armor
Answer to number 2....make her jealous...let her see you get pics with other girls. Than she will dress up and not leave your side...or she will say your not allowed to go out dressed up anymore...at that point you say well, there's my passion for costuming and for you...decisions, decisions, in the end she will prob dump you and than you can costume all you want! You may be single again, but that leaves ya open for more! They say chicks dig guys in armor! ROFL!!!!
Otherwise I'd say to her well that's fine you don't have to dress up, that way you still have her...be glad she let's ya costume.
-
Re: Two part question about armor
Well, she already told me I cant wear my armor with her little bro on halloween, but I'm going to anyway if he does the vader costume.
I like the jealousy angle, might try that. Of course it could backfire like you said and I end up with 2...........meh, I'll take what comes.

Re: Two part question about armor
What's a girl? Psh, I haven't dated in like 3 years, haha!
-
Re: Two part question about armor

Finding a girl that's single isn't a problem for me, it's just finding them locally! I'm still waiting for some 18 year old girl to join my garrison ;);)

Re: Two part question about armor
I don't mind, it's still partially on topic.
MY girlfriend can stand me having the old bionicles, DBZ/DBGT, and SW figures, but she thinks it's stupid to have the armor. And everytime I talk to my parents or friends about the 501st, they ignore me!!
How can I convince one of my friends that the 501st is cool? He thinks that it's just a bunch of 40+ year-old guys living in their parents' basement wearing halloween costumes to the movies (I think that's what he said).

Re: Two part question about armor
Well then just let them think that, you can't make anything think something.

Re: Two part question about armor
Don't know what you all are complaining about. My wife was right there beside me at D-Con in her custom mando and her Sith.
I guess I'm just one lucky guy:)

my advice on THIS topic...put away the figures bro. by NO MEANS do i mean toss them!!! but ya know, wrap them up in the attic, if u show that youve grown up a lil but and STILL have your armor, there might be some more lee-way there.
i KNOW im gonna get grilled by every married dude that has their figures in the living room...but from a teen/20 year old stand-point, as far as the girl situation goes, give a lil, get a lil...

Re: Two part question about armor
im gona agree with fett_man. its awsome you go that stuff, but maybe we "hide" it for a while... or wait for your own office that no one can touch!

Definately good advice, right here. You don't have to hide who you are, but there's no sense in scaring her away early on. Unless she likes Star Wars alot, and understands the whole geek thing, in which case, rock on brother!

Inform them that alot of people make a living off of making costumes like that. A very, very good living. It's how costume designers for big-budget movies are made.
Oh, a female friend of mine gave some advice today on your gf dilemma.
She says "Buy her jewelry. Expensive jewelry. Then take her to a place where she can wear (re: show off) said expensive jewelry."

Re: Two part question about armor
Cylrul Pbz, I actually kinda thought about the "fem-mando" armor (curvy, for lack of better term) for her. I think that seeing an assassin couple is kinda touching.
Boba_Fett_03, She understands my views on the toys, so that's no prob.
I already spoke with her about jewelry, but she said she doesn't need anything fancy as long as she has me:hug ........:suprise

Re: Two part question about armor
Well one thing you can do is Suprise her with a Slave Leia Costume with a nice collar and chain ( for you ). Dont push it on her just give it to her and let her try it on she might like it. Something about the whole Whips and Chain thing.

Umm, between me and the guys on this board, she's a little on the husky side, so the slave stuff might not work. :suprise :puke <<<for demonstration

Re: Two part question about armor
Well, fortunatly my girlfriend understands my obssesion for star wars, and only sees it as a hobby. She actually likes star wars as well. So it all works out. The other day she ran around with my Jango helm on. So I got a good one. Dont push your GF if she dosnt approve, just let her know its something you like to do, and that its your hobby. You cant make anyone like something they dont like. But if your relationship is serious enough, dont let anything, especially star wars get between you both. Yes, I said even star wars, and you will have to agree with that at one point. Goodluck.

Re: Two part question about armor
Never thought of just saying "it's a hobby." just goes to prove that I'm a dunce offline.
We're not that serious, yet. It'll be 2 months on Oct. 28

Re: Two part question about armor
i got my lady to dress up as Mara Jade for IGN once and we have been together for 2 years now
-
Re: Two part question about armor
my wife is in the 501st with a tusken and an at-at driver, and the rebel legion with a padme and a leia. :-D
it's all her own thing though. she troops without me and i troop without her. if your significant other isn't into it, there's not a lot you can do to make her change her mind.
on the color note, i'm not really into custom stuff, so i just do things like they were in the movies :)
-
Re: Two part question about armor
My wife thinks that it is completely stupid, and she hated when I walked in from work today with a DC-15 and a Clone Trooper Special Ops helmet. You should have seen the look on her face, it was classic.

More like rule #stereotype rather than rule #1.:b You'll never get me in a Leia or Padme costume for instance. Custom mando (no tacky boob armor though thx) and scout trooper for me. Well that and the other body armor costumes I'm working on. :lol Those kinds of costumes are far more cooler than misc. dresses, imo.
But yeah, like others have said, if your significant other has no interest then you're probably up the creek as far as that goes and forcing won't do any good.
-
Re: Two part question about armor
If all else fails, like I said, Mind Control! Haha, but guns IMO look better black with some chrome or some brown. And armor should me completely matching tones, I think it's ugly when people match wrong colors in anything. Such as puke green and red, Looks good on boba because over all he's a bad mutha. But other than him, it just turns out ugly.
But for gettin a girl in costumes, if she doesn't like it then she most likely never will.

Re: Two part question about armor
Well, I recently found that she has a soft spot for superheroes, and I just got my bat-cowl today:cheering
BTW, what's the best way to take care of a latex mask so it will last longer? I heard armor-all works, but...:doh
-
Re: Two part question about armor
I'll just have to keep my eyes open to make sure before I get a girlfriend, that I won't be rediculed for having a mando and a guard

my wife has some special silicone based stuff for taking care of latex clothing. if you google for "latex garment care" you'll see lots of advice. i'd assume that the cowl would be similar care-wise.

Re: Two part question about armor
Here's some info on taking care of latex masks:
http://p067.ezboard.com/fthehuntersf...opicID=8.topic
And as far as your gf and costuming. My advice, drop it. If she's not interested, then pushing it will make her resent it and you. Now if you see her show interest in a different aspect of costuming then suggest you help her, but don't push an idea on her, let her decide.
For example, if she seems interested in SuperHeros, then you might mention, "Honey, you seemed to like my bat mask, would you be interested in my working on you an outfit while I work on that? If so, which one would you be interested in?" Most importantly, DON'T try to talk her into a skimpy one. It's better to have a girl with a Batgirl costume who likes dressing up, than one who is dead set against costumes because "all you want is for me to wear some skimpy Wonder Woman outfit". (replace Batgirl and Wonder Woman with ANH Leia and Slave Leia for you SW geeks)
