Starting My Suit Tonight - Venom Mandalorian

Loshi

New Hunter
Hi Everyone!

I'm Loshi, and I've been in love with Star Wars for a long time.

For the first time in my adult life, I've had some disposable income and some spare time, so I've decided to finally realize a dream - Make a full suit of armor of a Star Wars Character (Either Trooper or Fett)

Ever since coming across your website while absentmindedly looking up costume patterns, I've been in love, and yesterday I decided I would finally achieve my dream.

I'm going to build my first custom Mandalorian Suit!

I see the amazing jobs you've all done on Boba and your custom suits, and after much forethought (Undead, Dragon, Samus-esque...) decided what I want my custom suit to be. It will be combining two of my favourite characters of all time, and I'm really excited.

Venom and Boba Fett.

I've drawn some schematics on post-its, and have a great idea for custom chest armor (Involving the Venom Logo).

I was going to build a Cardboard Helmet (Thanks to Wizard of Flight for the amazing template), but a friend has graciously offered to give me his old helmet from a costume when he was young, so I'll be modifying it. The antennae is broken, and the visor is cracked, so I'll be replacing those.

I'll be building the armour out of layered cardboard, as this will mostly be a preliminary suit (In time for Halloween). If it is successful, I fully intend to purchase some Sintra to make proper chestplates, and do a proper molded helmet.

I just wanted to make this thread to chronicle my efforts, and hopefully become a part of this amazing community!

I'll post the notes as soon as I can.

Thank you all so much for the welcomes, I look forward to sharing my experience with all of you! :D

If anyone has any tips, suggestions, or questions, please don't be shy! Thanks again!

New Plan - Getting a Trashcan. Easier than cardboard to use, and more durable. Saw BrenSett's pics, looked supercool. I need to find these "snaps" everyone keeps talking about for attaching armor to their flakvests...

industrial strength Velcro works also. :D

Welcome aboard! Any questions you need answered, just give a shout and I'm sure someone here will be able to help.

Also, Line 20 snaps.
I will have a tutorial posted up here in just a few minutes on how to use them...

:cheers

ey man good luck! sounds you got most of your flanks covered.

btw... you combining the coolest villains ever! cant wait to see it:D

Thanks for all the support!

I got a bunch of supplies, I've got the snaps situation covered, and I made my chest pieces tonight.

The Blue pieces are cut from a big blue rubbermaid container. it was discounted because it had a shattered corner, and it's alright flat and very slightly curved.

Second picture is after painting. Will need to do detail lines for the leg definition.

The last picture is the claws I'll make, those are prototypes out of scrap paper at work. My left arm will be melee.

I also got a longsleeve biking shirt for underneath, a black tshirt (took the pocket off) which I'll hem and trim to make into my "flak vest", will eventually sew a vinyl one.

Figured out how my snaps work, will attach them to the armor plates by attaching them to a small piece of fabric and gluign it to the back of the armor plate.

Still need to do the collarbone armor piece, as well as the back pieces, and codpiece. Also, shoulders. I think I'll go with the traditional Mandalorian shoulder, back, and codpieces, since I can't think of anything that';d be venom appropriate.

Also, I'll get my friend to stencil and spray the venom logo on the backpiece, and we were concepting a super unique (looks like it's made of corrupted organic material that's attached to an original jetpack, looks rad in theory)

I'll also make a cape which I'lla ttach with snaps.

Tomorrow morning I work on the helmet!

Also, I'm gonna make a cast (in plaster) of the plastic helmet, then later down the road I can mass produce them once I learn (From you amazing Mandalorians) how to do plaster casts.

We also concepted some more designs, using rusted metal as a medium (my artsy friend suggested this, so he might do it as an art piece for his school, lol)

Let me know what you all think, sorry it isn't more, but we spent a lot of time concepting stuff tonight, and shopping.

EDIT: oh, and I'll probably be using industrial velcro for the below-waist armor (copiece etc.) so that I can take it off while driving. is it uncomfortable to wear while sitting?

Thanks! The bottom "spinneret" of the spider body will extend slightly below the flak vest, I think it'll be a nice effect.

I could see how someone could easily modify this to be a bat-like chestpiece... I shoulda made the head thinner. Phooo. Oh well. Thats why this one is rubbermaid and I'll make a proper sintra one later!

Lol, what if Batman took up Mandalorian trianing? xD

There is a Mando batman? I must challenge him... Lol.

Yeah, I was nervous, but my artsy-stype friend is really helping out. I'm a computer tech by trade, so he's being a huge help with the fabrication process. I'm doing all the sewing myself, though.

The photos are of: THe Don Post helmet from my other friend. We sawed out the cruddy faceplate and will be replacing it with a nice (Possibly mylar) T Visor. Either that or I'll just tint some plexiglass.

The finished chestpiece, with gloss.

My workspace. Cigarettes and alcohol... Lol.

And you get a backshot of Daryl doin' stuff. He's the artsy guy whose been helping.

The modified Tshirt is going to be my flak vest. Already hemmed and sewed and trimmed it to where it looks good.

The longsleeve shirt will go underneath everything. Keep in mind, Venom Symbiote, so the sheer shinyness of it will be perfect for imitating the symbiote, while the rest of the armor overtop of that will look more rough and rigid (ie. tshirt looks thicker than sheer biking shirt that I'll be wearing underneath it.)

Gonna go work on the stylized shoulderpads now, and concept some designs for the backpiece. I'll most likely keep the kidneyguards and the codpiece identical to stock, but, hey, thats what I said about the shoulderpads, and we thought of AWESOME shoulderpads. :D

Wish me luck!

Hey vods, sorry for the lack of updates, I've been busy with work, but tonight I plan to have my custom shoulders, kidney plates, and maybe even my back plates done, so I'll post picture later on! Thanks for being so supportive!

Also, quick question - If I want to curve plastic using the Boiling Water method, how would I shape the backplate to, say, my back? Wont the plastic be booooiiiling hot? What do you suggest?

Thanks!

I'll be dancing a lot in it. Also, I';m not gonna have the top as baggy as a regular Fett, as Venom is quite a... skintight looking fellow.

Anyways, here's tons of pics!

Photos are: Back armor
Shoulder armor (Flat shoulderpads, with the bent pieces as the "bells". I'll put the Mando logo on one shoulder in Red.)
Black tubes which will be put onto an armor gauntlet for blasters. Also, I'll get 3 laser points, turn them on, and glue them inside so I'll have lasers on the whole time.
My staff. I do staffspinning as a hobby. I'll be putting venom-like tentacles on the ends.
Kidneyguards.
Nerf blaster, after using a dremel on it.
The engraving of the venom chestplate logolike thing.

And for the final pic... I gotta find a girl to wear this for me! :D
