Starting my first Mando today

As promised ner vod, I have a detailed version of the pattern (which is very simple) on the right. It runs down the center of the helmet, and along the weakhand (left) side from shoulder to toe, down each plate in a contrasting color with the plate color. I was also thinking, if you're using a metallic base paint to weather with, you may think about having the details in the base color, to make it look like deliberately exposed metal... I thought that'd be kinda cool. I also thought that if you don't like the vertical pattern, you could wrap it around the body, going from the top left and down across the chest, around the back and down the left or right leg, or both really... but have it descending and wraping around the body, even twisting it so that the razors and barbs are on different sides at times.

A few others things had taken over my life atm but im working on finishing this freaking build! lol anyways ill try to have some pictures up in a few of the finished paint job on the helm.. still working on making the range finder and trying to find a visor! ive honestly checked every hardware store near me! anyways ill have a few up soon hopefully. sorry guys

I ordered my visor online and it was very easy. If you wanna do that, here's where A'den told me to get mine: heargear for faceshields,Boba Fett Faceshield,Dark Green Faceshields,clear face shields,polycarbonate faceshields,hard hat sunshieldHard Hat Liner
scroll down for "Polycarbonate Faceshield -Clear" Get the Dark Green one. Hope that helps!

Ok so after watching the full second season of the clone wars yesterday, I decided to get started on my armor. And thanks to Kals design it's lookin really good!
I can't get pics to u for a while cause I'm actually working right now (subway) and before u think I stole the boss's computer lol I'm just using the new app lol

Anyways after work I'm leaving to be with the grandparents so I won't get a chance to upload pics. But don't worry, they'll be up in a few days!

There's still some work to do... I didn't layer the paint enough on the original layer so when I removed the masking tape the original plastic wjat revealed.. But i've got a few ideas to fix that lol other than restarting haha

Wow, this thread still lives? I remembering first discovering the costume clubs and reading this thread (one of my first inspirations...) and starting my costume. Now I'm Official in the Mercs (and a clan leader/founder), Official in the Rebel Legion and a 501st ESB Boba Fett! My Kal Skirata is almost done too!

Did you sand and prime the plastic before you painted it?

I dunno, just looks a little unorganised and messy to me. At first glance I thought that the helmet was half way through a scratch build.

Trust me, it is not as unruley in person. but you are intitled to your opinion, as are we all. Lol I'll mark it down as constructive criticism :P

On the other hand, messy was what I was going for. But as you can see... First build. So what are you going to do.

I did sand but I didn't prime in my rush for a result. But I've learned my leason I guess lol.. Back to work

Well I'd recommend sanding it all down to the base material then wetsand it. Once you do that be sure to prime it and then sand it down a bit and wetsand it again. Repeat this step a few times and then take pictures of your work so we can see an accurate representation of the armour and helmet parts. Then you can paint it, but go slowly and go one layer a day or so at a time. Rushing leads to messy results.

On the collar and a bit of the stomach, did you use strips of tape to mask from paint? I know it is not done yet and you have another layer of paint -- red, right? -- but I would think about making that look a little more natural with your next coat of paint. Your weathering is awesome besides that! I wish mine could have looked that beat up.

The tape was actually just my attempt to mask a design in the side (one kal designed for me) and not my inhibility to weather lol but I guess in a way.. It does look like ****, my bad lol

Ok.. I thinks it's time to confess a fear Ive had for a while.. When I wear my helmet (doesn't have a visor yet) my nose sticks out of the front D: so I'm kinda worried how this will turn out when I put the visor in :/

well... it may be that your nose presses against your visor... I advise padding the forehead to prevent that, it will help generate the space between your nose and the faceplate.

No prob... I had the same problem with my issued helmet, fixed the problem real quick. Of course I still have issues with scrunching my nose in my Gas Mask... not much I can do about that tho. BTW... A'd'ika finished my buy'ce! I'm expecting it shortly!
