ok sweet Thanks Kal
The plan for this weekend is......
Finish the bondo
and form my armor (I got the heat gun)
If there are any tutorials or tips you guys could give me on using the heat gun i would greatly appreciate it!
DO NOT pick it up on the hot end. That's all I got...
in all seriousness, dont do that. I did it and still have the scars to show for it...
And dont concentrate the heat all in one spot (unless you are working that spot for a reason). Evenly heat the entire plate to form it.
Good luck and post pics once your done!!!
Im guessing i have to wear gloves
Looking good vod, sorry i've been mia. you know med school. =( takes most my time. okay bought that msh 1.5 from fettpride last night. still working on mine also. doing the cheeks right now. =)
hey lev'ika if u can find some decent leather work gloves (WalMart for like $12) they'll last u longer than just this project and save u A LOT of pain... I've been using my old work gloves (got a new pair for actual work) to shape armor since I started and they have saved me a lot of grief... but u have to use leather because anything else will transfer the heat right to your fingers or melt and fuse to your skin... which is probably worse than a minor burn.
...or a major burn...Kal's right, get gloves, good leather ones.
Got plenty of those around being on a farm gloves tend to be laying in every direction
After i heat it up do i just shape it with my hands? I've never done this before and havnt seen pics of people doing it so i have no idea
put on a thick sweatshirt that u don't mind if it gets messed up, put the plate where it'd fit on u and hold the pieces to you to get the right shape... hold 'em there for a few min and then dunk it in COLD water while holding the shape to cool it rapidly, that helps maintain the shape better
heres the pics of my bucket after the final bondo
hmm... that's what my gaunts looked like before sanding
do the gauntlets look good now?
mine don't no... but it's because I messed 'em up to begin with... didn't do all the shaping and fitting quite right before I started. I think with some work they'd turn out okay tho.
LOL mine is looking pretty much the same as yours right now vod, got the cheeks in this morning. we have alot of sanding ahead of us. fun fun fun.
IT LIVES!!! looks perfect vod!!! That's the way it should. Now get sanding!
XLNT work, this is gonna be a GREAT bucket, I can feel it.
wait. thats not a fiberglass jacket? sorta looked like one. what does the helmet look like under all that?
he's gonna need to do a LOT of sanding
yup... lots of sanding
That's quite the blob of a helmet. LoL, it looks funny now but after a couple light-years of sanding it'll look great!
sanding well that will be started on Monday, today i am forming my armor
gonna get started on that right away
you been sanding today vod? put some new pics up on my scout thread.
