if your bondo is thick enough, you'll need to sand it out (the dome) or you can make it perfectly smooth and build out the area with cardboard... thats what I do... See the cardboard... I put it all the way around (obviously not done yet ) then I resin coat it then bondo and filler. I could put it on in the first stage, but the bucket isn't strong enough to attach since it's paper.

you can hot glue it, then just use spot putty if you want, but resin makes it stronger.

Re: Starting my first Mando today

you could get a hot glut gun at wally mart for like $3.00 and sticks (20 pack) like $5.00.

Liquid cement huh? I got that too, I dont know if it'll hold paper (cardboard) to bondo though

You still have spot putty right? try using it to hold it in place, but be sure to bend the cardboard into shape first. Then when it dries, put a thin layer to smooth it out.

Strange thing my friend at school was talking to me about the weapons 501st members and the mandos use. Saying that most are used of NERF guns. Let me say I respect NERF guns a lot and they can be incorportated into a star wars weapon. Me I am using the clone blaster I got from Wal*Mart. May put a NERF gun into play as my pistol but that is it.

So far vod your weapon is most impressive. Keep 'em coming.

True, the NERF guns are decent after some mods but I do thing the Maverick gets overused.

I agree the maverick does get overused a lot... Altho so does the Longshot... and the Recon... but those two usually turn out better than the Maverick does... just my opinion tho, and my opinion and a dollar won't even buy a coke any more so...lmao

Well if you didnt read it on my sketch thread, i had an idea for our clan name

Vandel Shadow, or Vanel Shadow.. whichever sounds better

And i thought something similar to this would be a nice insignia.
probably without the squares and a few added things
I know whatever insignia we use will end up on one of my shoulder bells, while the true mandalorian emblem will be on the other

What are your guy's thoughts on this?

Re: Starting my first Mando today

Vanel Shadow is cool... usually in the military we wear our unit patch on the right shoulder and the overarching patch on the left... so clan/squad on the right, mandalorians on the left... however... the direcats (my squad) wear the cat head on the left shoulder and a specialty designation on the right, which I've noticed is common in the Mercs...

that whole rant was just because u said something about what to wear on the shoulders...lmao

not real sure, seems like it's a man who plays a cello, went a lil crazy and dropped out of juiliard, a journalist finds him in the street 30 yrs later and is dedicating his time to try to rebuild this man

remember the spot putty wont be as hard as bondo or resin, so if it takes a hit, it will get damaged faster. But that's exactly how I did the ears on my snow bucket

I cant wait to see it finished............ No really I cant wait.......... now where is that whip? Kal you got my whip?

Dont forget it's your first bucket, just do a lot of battle damage like I did on mine , your second and subsequent buckets will be better, BUT there is NOTHING wrong with this one, trust me the paint will make a big dif.

Dude, I think it looks really good, it's gonna sit a little wobbley until the foam is put in, and your not done using the spot putty yet anyway.

Remember, your not going for Boba or Jango bucket, this is custom, lumps and bumps also come with the work Mando's do, think of any imperfections as narrow DARING escapes of a Mando out numbered and out of ammo... HAND TO HAND SHEB KICKIN!

Looks ok to me Levi'ka, piece of advice I would give is get a metal ruler (or anything that's tough with a flat surface) and surround it with Sand paper, then use long strokes over your lines, such as the brow rim, the T visor area (where it will meet the visor) and the rim of the bucket.

You'd be surprised how much the straightening of some lines will make the piece look 100 times better.

Keep it up though Levi'ka, you're getting there!

    What he said,

Stick with it and don't be disheartened by the inbetween stage where it never seems to improve. Many quit at that point when their not far from having a great lid! Don't make the same mistake.

Oh, and give it a quick spray of primer, the grey helps you find where the problem areas are and lets you know how far you get with sanding.

Ok.. today i got some work done

Put a second layer of paint on the blaster and cleaned it up a bit.

Sanded the edges like Saz suggested and it definatly cleaned it up! It turns out we dont have primer.. WHO KNEW? guess i gotta pick that up to

    anyone know prices on that?

Re: Starting my first Mando today

It is getting up there vod. The helmet is well in place and you have performed a good job on it to get it where it has been today. You know; when I started painting on my helmet I actually had to start over again because there were some paint bubbles on the back of it. I had to go to the store and buy some sand paper and sand the entire bucket down.

However, when I did get the red paint down; it looked a little odd. I wondered if it would look how I had imagined in the first place. Colors of red and black with a lot of battle damage added onto it. When I finally got the black paint on it it looked extremely well. However, I took a closer look noticing if I had put to much battle damage on the helmet. I then remembered that mandalorians see a lot of action so they are bound to get a lot of battle damage on their armor.

    Before

    In Between

    After

I still have some work to perform on the helmet. In terms of the glow stick light I am planning on using, foam for the inside of the helmet, and a visor. But I did have doubts on my bucket of wondering if it will turn out how I truly want it. So far it has; just need some of those nit picks for it is all. This is my first bucket as well and it turned out really well. As did yours. Keep it up in the long run vod.

LOL! Well in terms of getting primer for your helmet. I went to Wal*Mart and purchased all of my paint supplies for a total of $16.00. So around four bucks for a can depending on the kind of paint you are willing to use.

Try going to Home Depot, Lowes, or those Crafting stores. They may have them. I actually tried a store for a visor. Turns out they had the visor supplies but was to light of a shade. I am still searching hopping to get a visor for my helmet sometime. But overall I can't wait to see what you have for your helmet.

dude you defiled the Raider. Unacceptable.

Use the Recon next time, ok?

Otherwise it's pretty awesome. what did you make the flak vest of and how did you make it? I was thinking of just using a lab coat underneath but i'd like to see what it looks like with a vest,

Haha what did i do wrong to the Raider? Its not even done yet thats just the undercoat.

And for the flak vest, i just found a thick weave material at walmart for extremely cheap.. and around the colour i needed

then i used this tutorial to make it http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/flak-vest-tutorial-draft-your-own-pattern-9926/

I apologise for the late reply, but i do believe i heard my name mentioned...?

something to do with a clan name...

and don't call me Demagol. That is a lack of respect to his name.

Anyways, If you've decided on a clan name, fine, but I'd like to put in Malevol as a name.
