Going to go shape my armor in a little bit. Any last minute warning or sugestions?
your gonna heat it right?
Use gloves, heat evenly, use a straight surface to bend, then dunk in cold water and hold the shape.
I was going to wear a thick sweater and put it up against myself when its hot :D
Thats a GREAT IDEA, talk about form fitting.
wouldn't do that vod. trust me. it's alot harder to hold it in position. will need two ppl to do it that way.
why not?
your going to need two ppl and your not going to be able to move till it cools granted its only a minute or two but 350 degrees is really hot.
ive got another person helping. and after i form it dont i just put it in cool water?
either that or hold it in place till it cools. once you release the pressure it's going to start going back to original form you'll have to be fast from your body to the water. it's a great idea don't get me wrong i tried it myself. didn't turn out the way i hoped.
if it messes up the first time i can always form it again right?
OH I KNOW, get a fire extenguisher (CO2) and blast yourself after you have it in place ;)
haha please tell me you're kidding :D
350 - 375 degrees is really hot vod. lol
O...... um maybe three sweaters :D
:lol
but seriously if its gonna be that hot should i put it against my body?
NO, you WILL burn your self, just bend it 1 part at a time.
against a picnic table or something?
yup, that'll work, remember you can tweek it a little after.
what part are you bending?
alright :D im not sure how well it will turn out though :(
well you can heat, then bend, and while it is against the table in the shape you want, you can cool it with the H2O, dry and test fit, if not perfect, reheat form some more. ;)
NO don't put it directly against ur body... use a thick, heavy sweater or sweatshirt... put it against the shirt and press it against urself to form it... u'll feel a lil bit of the heat, and you may get a lil red but it won't hurt u... much...lol jk u'll be fine. I suggest using the cold water dunk to help it keep its shape, that's what I did and it turned out great! however... u have to really heat it up and u have to hold it against urself until it starts cooling, then dunk it. The rapid cooling in the water makes it hold its new shape better and... it actually makes the plastic harder and less prone to warping! But... it has to be COLD water or it won't work.
Ok so this is what i understand i have to do. Heat it up with the heatgun (not sure how hot to heat it up to) Hold it up to myself until it starts to cool. Then Dunk it in cool water and hold it there
is that right?
put it in the oven 350 degrees set the timer 2 minutes - 2 minutes and 30 seconds. more evenly dispersed heat.
true, that will give you even heat. But put it on a couple of pieces of wood, so it wont melt to the metal rack in the oven ;)
wear gloves. and dont set it directly on the cookie sheet. block it up just a bit. otherwise it might stick.
:( i dont really want to use an oven though
I dont really know why i just would rather use the heatgun i guess. Mostly because i can stay outside
im not sure what im going to do now :(
should i do it on the picnic table or my body? hmmmmmm :lol
up to you ner vod, i would suggest the table.
alright one last thing :D
Could you tell me exactly what to do and what ill need :D thanks
anyone? please?
if not i will have to wing it and see if it turns out alright :(
i guess ill just form it to my body...... *shutters* HOPE THIS DOESNT HURT :(
Oh well, burn report tonight :D
he he yeah u kinda have to form it to urself to get it shaped correctly... just use the heatgun and heat it until it feels softer when u try to bend it... then, hold it to yourself and allow it to start cooling, then dunk it in cold water... that's all there is to it. That is of course if using a heat gun.
"dude, nice grill marks...";):lol
Lev'ika, what Kal says is the best way to do it. Cept be careful with the dunking in the water; make sure the water is room temp or it can crystalise the plastic and make it really brittle and might cause it to shatter.
:cheers
A'den
hmm... yeah hadn't thought about that... it depends mostly on the type of plastic and how much u let it air cool while forming. I'd say A'd'ika's proally right... forget COLD water, use room temp, it's probably safer that way
thanks guys! i was doing totally wrong all day and the shoulder bells are really stubborn! Ill form it to myself tomorrow :D
I know these are terrible pics but here are some pics after a bit of sanding (not very much i might add)

$30.00 get a mouse sander, it'll speed things up a ton vod :)
Ok :D What do you think? does it look good or bad?
because personally i dont like it :(
its a great start, dont give up on it, just get a sander, and start sanding and layering, it'll take time, but itll be fine when you finish it. remember any mistakes can become battle damage.
Youve got a point there! :lol
Ill get a mouse sander :D
yup.. i never really liked Jangos, he looked like he NEVER saw any REAL action.
i'm sanding mine down toa smoth top surface butthe deep grooves and pock marks i'm going to leave as fragment damage
then boba took it and showed it some action!! He gave that thing a full workout!
It's looking good! I can't wait to see and hear how your forming has turned out, I'll be starting on that myself fore too long.
Helmet's lookin good!!! :cheering!!! I have one in that stages as well...meet the blob...

A'den
he he and yet both ur pieces look better than mine did!
Yours looks way better than mine A'den! and i dont know, you might beet me! :D
Dont be discouraged! It will turn out fine, my helmet has about 2 hours of sanding time on it, and i've got another 2 to go! :lol
*Update*
Going to buy a mouse sander asap so i can finish the sanding :D
That is definetally the correct and smart thing to do! I wish I had bought mine earlier, lol otherwise I might have mine finished by now...
purchased a detail sander and did a bit of sanding. It was going really well until i struck paper! i guess i didnt put enough bondo on some places :( so there will be more bondo done this weekend and hopefully sanding can get finished
Pics up in a few... Hopefully! It seems whenever i say that my computer does something stupid and i get delayed :(
well sand off the paper and fill it with bondo ;)
Oh and what kind of computer are you using? A DELL? They FAIL ALL THE TIME. Get a Mac :b
really? wont that weaken it?
Heres a picture of the sander im using (its actually its box)

theres something funky going on with the cheeks :( ones so much further in
just fill it a little more.
Levi, it is looking GOOD!!! pack some more bondo in the low spots and keep sanding!!! And if one of the cheeks looks to low, stick some more bondo on it to build it out till they are even. :)
GREAT work ner vod!
:cheers
A'den
what grit sand paper are you using?
about a 90 grit
at least u're makin' progress!
It seems like weekends are the only times i get to work on it though :(
I just finished slathering bondo on my "mini mando" bucket, I'll post pics on my thread tonight.
alright! lookin forward to it :D
I think i printed it at 85% since it's like 8.5" ear to ear.
Ahhh! you guys are killing me! I'm stuck on vacation while you get to have all the fun and work on your gear!!! :doh:rolleyes:lol

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...t/IMG_1740.jpg
Lets see if you guys can guess what it is
looks like something's not lined up right... did ur dome seperate from the rest of the buy'ce?
nope its attached. But on cheek got pulled out and pushed in a little bit during the first bondo. Coming back to haunt me now. Im thinking i just need to apply more bondo to make it level right?
I need help for an idea. For the backplate i need a custom idea. I know im not going to use a jetpack and im just wondering if any of you have any ideas
what is your mando going to be vod?
Bounty hunter mostly
Hey Lev'ika right now I have a standard backplate... however... the first major upgrade I'm going to make to mine will be a segmented backplate that will look sort of like something I found online... give me a few minutes and I'll post it up in my AFSOC thread, since I'm going to post up some progress pictures.
Sweet :D Ill be waiting :lol
have you seen the spine protectors that motorcycle rider use, they have segmented ones, you can get them and modify.
How much do those sell for? because thats a great idea!
posted on Kal's afsoc
sweet thanks :D
i found this pic and it would look awesome as a backplate
http://www.ski-depot.com/miva/graphi...ne-Ergo_lg.jpg
That is really cool!
yeah I still think I'm going to go ahead and build mine
Ah yes the Swedish do make nice looking body armor don't they... ;)
Swedish? what about the swedes?
That POC motorcycle armor is I believe made by a Swedish company. www.pocski.com
The Ski version of this armor (See above) is MSRP $180.00, but is is vented so it breaths, but WOW $180.00 :suprise
yeah that's a lil much! lol I think I'll just cut mine from a trashcan... $10 plus a few hours of my time on weekends... for which I don't get paid anyways so...lol
:D i got the should be final bondo done :D im so happy thats over with (im starting to not like bondo-glass!) There wont be tons of sanding this time because i made sure it was as smooth as possible and ill put up a pick when it dries
cool! can't wait to see it lev'ika
im hoping to get painting by next week
