Re: Starting my first Mando today
if your bondo is thick enough, you'll need to sand it out (the dome) or you can make it perfectly smooth and build out the area with cardboard... thats what I do... See the cardboard... I put it all the way around (obviously not done yet ;)) then I resin coat it then bondo and filler. I could put it on in the first stage, but the bucket isn't strong enough to attach since it's paper.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Ok thanks :hug well i guess that means i cant put the first layer of paint on this weekend :lol
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Does that mean i have to pick up bondo, resin, and filler
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
you can hot glue it, then just use spot putty if you want, but resin makes it stronger.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
i dont really want to spend much more.. i need the cash for the flightsuit and other things
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
what about liquid cement? :lol that would hold it i think haha and i have that
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
you could get a hot glut gun at wally mart for like $3.00 and sticks (20 pack) like $5.00.
Liquid cement huh? I got that too, I dont know if it'll hold paper (cardboard) to bondo though :lol
You still have spot putty right? try using it to hold it in place, but be sure to bend the cardboard into shape first. Then when it dries, put a thin layer to smooth it out.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
liquid cement is for plastic isnt it?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Ok maybe ill get a chance to do that today :D I just watched a new hope and feel like playin some battlefront 2 atm so ill try later
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
*ahem* well a little progress never hurt anyone so here it is :D
If anyone noticed a thread but Sixxgunn13 a little while ago regarding free ear decals, well i got in on that and received two sets of them today
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...t/100_7937.jpg

Re: Starting my first Mando today
wow that rifle looks wonderful Lev'ika!

Re: Starting my first Mando today
Strange thing my friend at school was talking to me about the weapons 501st members and the mandos use. Saying that most are used of NERF guns. Let me say I respect NERF guns a lot and they can be incorportated into a star wars weapon. Me I am using the clone blaster I got from Wal*Mart. May put a NERF gun into play as my pistol but that is it.
So far vod your weapon is most impressive. Keep 'em coming.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
True, the NERF guns are decent after some mods but I do thing the Maverick gets overused.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
I agree the maverick does get overused a lot... Altho so does the Longshot... and the Recon... but those two usually turn out better than the Maverick does... just my opinion tho, and my opinion and a dollar won't even buy a coke any more so...lmao
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
thanks guys :D im gonna put a second coat on today
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Well if you didnt read it on my sketch thread, i had an idea for our clan name
Vandel Shadow, or Vanel Shadow.. whichever sounds better
And i thought something similar to this would be a nice insignia.
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/st...n_Insignia.jpg probably without the squares and a few added things
I know whatever insignia we use will end up on one of my shoulder bells, while the true mandalorian emblem will be on the other
What are your guy's thoughts on this?

vod love the insignia for name i vote this one Vanel Shadow :cheers
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Got any ideas that i could add to the igsignia?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Vanel Shadow is cool... usually in the military we wear our unit patch on the right shoulder and the overarching patch on the left... so clan/squad on the right, mandalorians on the left... however... the direcats (my squad) wear the cat head on the left shoulder and a specialty designation on the right, which I've noticed is common in the Mercs...
that whole rant was just because u said something about what to wear on the shoulders...lmao
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
:lol well i was talkin to Jayson and the same thing came up :lol So it sounds like whoever uses it we will wear it like ur sayin Kal :lol Im also planing on putting a small one above my right eye, would that look good or not? maybe on the back of the helmet hmmm
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
I'd do the back of the bucket if I were u. I'll probably add it to the chest plate on mine
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Maybe chest would be a better idea anyways
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
yeah I'm going to put my wings on the left chest plate, may put this clan logo with them or... maybe on the right chest plate
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
so you're cool with the Vanel Shadow clan? or is it too many to be in?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
ha ha yeah I'm cool with it, the direcats are a small, tight nit squad, could even be a squad within the clan.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
alright :D just didnt wanna think i was forcing this down anyones throats :lol has anyone seen Nevu and A'den around lately? gotta see if theyre ok with it :lol (probably should have done this before i asked Pacx to put it in the story)
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
lmao yeah haven't heard from Nevu lately but A'd'ika was on yesterday
-

Re: Starting my first Mando today
Hmmm never heard of it. Whats it about?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
not real sure, seems like it's a man who plays a cello, went a lil crazy and dropped out of juiliard, a journalist finds him in the street 30 yrs later and is dedicating his time to try to rebuild this man
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
I am totally down for a clan! I have a few vode who are are in a squad (Kryat Squad) with me, but a clan...that totally works!
One thing I do have to say about the name though...Clan names were only one word. lol. :b
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
:lol fine.. but Vanel Shadow just sounds so cool
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
I totally agree, but in keeping with tradition...
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Hmm got any ideas then? Just Vanel?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
hmmm...let is summon Pacx to the rescue...he always has ideas...
And did I fail to mention that Clone Wars is on tonight?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today

Re: Starting my first Mando today
Ok :D Man im so happy right now!! One of my favorite shows in the world, the spectacular spiderman (call me childish but i like it) well it sounded like it was going to end after season 2, which ends this week. But after reading a few articles... Turns out that the creators announced at comic con that it would have a season three. When i do not know but im just happy :lol
Happy Happy Happy :D :D :D ;)

Re: Starting my first Mando today

-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
cool, can't wait to see it. Lookin' forward to seein' this project finished up.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
remember the spot putty wont be as hard as bondo or resin, so if it takes a hit, it will get damaged faster. But that's exactly how I did the ears on my snow bucket ;)
I cant wait to see it finished............ No really I cant wait.......... now where is that whip? Kal you got my whip?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Mu favourite part was the carpet the belt was modelling xD
Jus' kidding, its ossim

Re: Starting my first Mando today
usually i would be doin some goofy pose or ridiculous faceish thing but im just feelin disappointed right now :/
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Dont forget it's your first bucket, just do a lot of battle damage like I did on mine ;), your second and subsequent buckets will be better, BUT there is NOTHING wrong with this one, trust me the paint will make a big dif.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
:/ i guess
I think i was just looking for better in my first build
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Dude, I think it looks really good, it's gonna sit a little wobbley until the foam is put in, and your not done using the spot putty yet anyway.
Remember, your not going for Boba or Jango bucket, this is custom, lumps and bumps also come with the work Mando's do, think of any imperfections as narrow DARING escapes of a Mando out numbered and out of ammo... HAND TO HAND SHEB KICKIN!
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
:D ok youve convinced me :lol
The other thing i want your opinion on is.... i think the helmets a little to wide for my likeing, and i havnt even put the earcaps on yet :(
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
wide is good, remember the armor will make you look wider.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
hmmm true... cant wait to paint this!
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
it's a little wide but it's not too wide... I think it'll be just fine lev'ika
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
im thinking ill just take the cardboard off of where the earcaps will go. Then the earcaps wont go out as far
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
id keep the cardboard on vod
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Totally getting there ner vod! Dont get discouraged with it! My first lid looked like this:
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f34/custom-bucket-27155/
And that was just over a year ago. lol. Just keep at it vod!!!
:cheers
A'den
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
i really like it levi it's coming along good vod.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
W00T! Look at all this progress, vod! You're making me look bad. ;) Keep up the good work. :D
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
See Levi, 5 of us are right here saying ITS COOL!!
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
:D ok fine!! thanks guys, just needed a little boost
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Looks ok to me Levi'ka, piece of advice I would give is get a metal ruler (or anything that's tough with a flat surface) and surround it with Sand paper, then use long strokes over your lines, such as the brow rim, the T visor area (where it will meet the visor) and the rim of the bucket.
You'd be surprised how much the straightening of some lines will make the piece look 100 times better.
Keep it up though Levi'ka, you're getting there!
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
What he said, :)
Stick with it and don't be disheartened by the inbetween stage where it never seems to improve. Many quit at that point when their not far from having a great lid! Don't make the same mistake. ;)
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Oh, and give it a quick spray of primer, the grey helps you find where the problem areas are and lets you know how far you get with sanding.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
thanks guys :D will do all of that today ;)
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Ok.. today i got some work done
Put a second layer of paint on the blaster and cleaned it up a bit.
Sanded the edges like Saz suggested and it definatly cleaned it up! It turns out we dont have primer.. WHO KNEW? :lol guess i gotta pick that up to
anyone know prices on that?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
It is getting up there vod. The helmet is well in place and you have performed a good job on it to get it where it has been today. You know; when I started painting on my helmet I actually had to start over again because there were some paint bubbles on the back of it. I had to go to the store and buy some sand paper and sand the entire bucket down.
However, when I did get the red paint down; it looked a little odd. I wondered if it would look how I had imagined in the first place. Colors of red and black with a lot of battle damage added onto it. When I finally got the black paint on it it looked extremely well. However, I took a closer look noticing if I had put to much battle damage on the helmet. I then remembered that mandalorians see a lot of action so they are bound to get a lot of battle damage on their armor.

In Between

After
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...4b1161968b.jpg
I still have some work to perform on the helmet. In terms of the glow stick light I am planning on using, foam for the inside of the helmet, and a visor. But I did have doubts on my bucket of wondering if it will turn out how I truly want it. So far it has; just need some of those nit picks for it is all. This is my first bucket as well and it turned out really well. As did yours. Keep it up in the long run vod.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
thanks vod :D Like i said before, just seeing that makes me want to start painting! :lol
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
LOL! Well in terms of getting primer for your helmet. I went to Wal*Mart and purchased all of my paint supplies for a total of $16.00. So around four bucks for a can depending on the kind of paint you are willing to use.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Ok thanks :D ya i picked up all of my paints for around 5 bucks, still looking for the swamp tan colour though, wally mart didnt have it
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Try going to Home Depot, Lowes, or those Crafting stores. They may have them. I actually tried a store for a visor. Turns out they had the visor supplies but was to light of a shade. I am still searching hopping to get a visor for my helmet sometime. But overall I can't wait to see what you have for your helmet.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Thanks, ill try those places, gotta pic up a visor as well
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
dude you defiled the Raider. Unacceptable.
Use the Recon next time, ok?
Otherwise it's pretty awesome. what did you make the flak vest of and how did you make it? I was thinking of just using a lab coat underneath but i'd like to see what it looks like with a vest,
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Pacx is another Demagol...lab coat, bone saw...lol
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Haha what did i do wrong to the Raider? Its not even done yet :lol thats just the undercoat.
And for the flak vest, i just found a thick weave material at walmart for extremely cheap.. and around the colour i needed
then i used this tutorial to make it http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/flak-vest-tutorial-draft-your-own-pattern-9926/
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
was that tutorial pretty hard?
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
lets just say i didnt have a clue what to do! luckily i had my aunt there to help

Re: Starting my first Mando today
I apologise for the late reply, but i do believe i heard my name mentioned...?
something to do with a clan name...
and don't call me Demagol. That is a lack of respect to his name.
Anyways, If you've decided on a clan name, fine, but I'd like to put in Malevol as a name.
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
hmm i like it :D and no we dont have anything yet :lol we were going to ask you
I like Malevol, you got others? then we can go through them and pick which one we like best
I know its asking a lot but it would be awesome.. thanks in advance :)
-
Re: Starting my first Mando today
Strikad
Malevol
Bloodwar
Freborn
Silwar
Infinite
Plauge
Best I can do at the mo. I'll probably think of others.
