Jodo Kast So Decided to go Jodo. corrected errors.

Dead Eye

Hunter
Posted this over on the BHG as well but figured this place gets more traffic anyway.

ok now that I have told the wife who was surprisingly ok with this. I am going to be building Jodo Kast before CV..........
now a couple questions to throw out there are on the lineup of supplies.

1: Helmet- going with a Mystery or FP bucket.... exactly how much will I need to throw into it as far as work?

2: Gauntlets and Jet pack- going to be MOW.... are they worth it? the pics I have seen lead me to believe so.

3: boots/shoes- I wear a 13 US size, should I build these or buy them? if I build does anyone have info on sources for the base shoe and so on?? same question if I buy them please PM me with info..

4: gloves- I know Parade gloves are recommended but I found multiple types on line.

I factored in the cost to be around $1,500 give or take (anticipating give) but I am going to slowly be doing this over time. I also will need to get my Flight suit custom made because I am too tall for anything off the rack.
hoping to share progress on this during the build, but wont be till a couple months (Feb) that I will have money together to make the first purchase for this.

please stick to the questions.
excuse my temper but I post questions over a week ago and the only answer I get is an opinion on my Costume choice not in the questions I posted.

I wish I could offer you some help but, I'm not really versed in Jodo. I know what a good Jodo looks like and what a bad one looks like when I see it. But, that's about it for me. I don't know if there's a master list on here of people with Jodo's. Perhaps PMing them for assistence? Otherwise, I think the BHG site s your best bet for info. The CRL's for the 501st should give some insight as far as which parts are just Boba repaints and which need something different.

Well did a quick search and found this maybe it can help you. This guy does have a Jodo Kast suit

Jodo Kast 3

Here is a pic that he posted of him with some others

Hey great choice, It will be nice to see a different suit than the ESB or ROTJ.
But knowing that the Jodo is similar to Boba, I think you'll be spending more.

Now on to your answers..

1: Helmet- going with a Mystery or FP bucket.... exactly how much will I need to throw into it as far as work?

I've have worked on both, The Mystery Sgt Fang type is resin super easy to prep... but depending on how thick the resin is you may have to fiberglass the interior & I had to scratch build and mod the right ear cap and mod the helmet to make it more accurate.
FP stuff is great quality, and easy to prep as well and no mods and now with FP offering a budget helmet at $150 I'd go for that one.

2: Gauntlets and Jet pack- going to be MOW.... are they worth it? the pics I have seen lead me to believe so.

I have MOW gaunts and to me they are one of the best. (y)
JP look good also... but an owner of one should chime in soon.

3: boots/shoes- I wear a 13 US size, should I build these or buy them? if I build does anyone have info on sources for the base shoe and so on?? same question if I buy them please PM me with info..

Since these are custom made, I've seen a few made, the best one IMO was based of Chuck Taylor's, If you do these right i think you'll be able to make BETTER than what is offered right now. also I think Evolutions is selling boots right now.

4: gloves- I know Parade gloves are recommended but I found multiple types on line. Again you can make these on your own...
(y)
You can spend within your budget IF you make most of your gear... but you will have to work extra hard to get it done in time.
you have to think about painting, fitting, attaching, weathering also testing if stuff will stay secure for trooping.

anyways hope I could help, cant wait for WIP's

thanks for the info that helped a lot.
ohh I plan on sharing pics and if I happen to run into some tricks along the way that as well but I am sure you all have it down quite well by now.

I think it's pretty darn cool that you're doing a Jodo Kast, personally. Cant wait to see it.

If you go over to the BHG you'll find the person in the Jodo suit. He is currently head of the Bounty Hunters Guild for the 501st. Send him a pm and I'm sure he'll give you a wealth of knowledge. Good luck, bruv.

ok So I put my order in for my Fang bucket.....
ok its more like WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO ORDERED MY FANG BUCKET!!!!!!!!!!
yeah excited to get this off the ground.

yeah been doing a lot of research over there as well. so far I got the SGT Fang Helmet and girth ordered. I will be making the Hollow stalk. I also have the shock Collar nailed down. I think I will be going with the Ice cream scoop thermal.. I already have most of my Armor cut out of Sintra just need to finish that. making my own gloves and blasters as well as holster and belts.

These are the gloves I went with for the base. Cotton, which have the accurate wrist snap closure. You didn't mention whether you're doing your own flak vest or outsourcing it. The material on the backs of the fingers and hands is the same -- on the movie Bobas -- as the material for the flak vest and flightsuit collar. For the Pre-Pro Boba's it was the same material but a different colour. It's been a while since I checed out the Jodo source material, and I don't remember which way he went.

But if you're doing your own vest, you can use leftover fabric for the glove plant-ons. If you're outsourcing, see if you can send them the gloves to have them add the plant-ons, or ask for a couple 6" squares so you can do it yourself. :)

I haven't added the plant-ons yet, but here are my naked gloves...

I'll offer whatever insights I can along the way. Have fun. :)

[ETA: What were you thinking of doing for Jodo's chest sigil? I'd recommend Lucksy31 for the shoulder one, at least.]

nice!! did you dye them or get them in the gray already?? either way where do I get a pair? also just ordered my stalk for my RF. and going to be ordering the suit and vest from ladySewforus. the boots will more than likely be a home builtl pair for at least time being. Armor is about 75% cut so far.

First word in my last post (the underlined one) is the link. :) These come grey. They're also available in white, which was what was used for the original Supertrooper costume, and what I'm pretty sure was dyed brown for the Pre-Pro gloves. (I'm not sure, but I think they were dyed with the poly-pro backing pieces still attached, as the cotton would take the dye better than the synthetic poly-pro, and be why the gloves are brown and the plant-ons tan... Thinking out loud. *heh*)

So yeah, see if LSFU will toss in a couple six-inch squares of vest material so you can make the add-on pieces for your gloves.

Did you take a look at the CAboots and JW boot run threads up in the Boba Fett Costume section?

Honestly i am not in a great paying job so CAboots are not in my scope.
but yeah doing as much as humanly possible to get this done right.
found a local source for girth belts even though I could have just made one a heck of a lot cheaper I went that route.

*nod* If you have any equestrian shops local to you, it's usually pretty easy to have them get in a Centaur mohair girth belt for you. $20 and no shipping. :) After that, a small can of Minwax's latex (water-soluble) wood stain (can't remember if I used Cherry or Rosewood...) will get it the right colour. I don't like to cut corners I don't have to, but when I can make a movie-accurate sash for under $30... :D

Dead Eye,Im Just starting a Jodo on the other side of the pond.
If you don't mind I'll keep bugging you by PM (and Kast 3) with some questions and my own updates
One thing i have found helpfull as my memory fades with old age,is a note book with all the finer details of Jodo's build and a home made dress makers doll/mannaquine to help with getting things placed.
Good luck Buddy

ok progress time.. its slow but here goes.
SGT. Fang helmet has dent filled and ready for paint. will post pics once I have some.
Well I got the grenades that go onto the side of the holster built and the silver on still need to get the rest of the paint on them but waiting for the silver to really set. Girth belt dyed and one of the belt gizmos started.
