    SAS Mando

Okay Vode, some of u may know I started my own custom mando... changed my mind so many times and finally decided to stop working on it. Instead I'm going in a new direction. Not only am I working up my AFSOC mando... I will be starting my own special mando based on the brave soldiers of the British Special Air Service. I'll post the concept sketches shortly and will ask you guys to help me out with picking which one I want to make. I must make it known tho that this project is SECONDARY to my primary project of building the AFSOC mando.

    Re: SAS Mando

Okay vode, here's the concept art for the SAS mando. I have 5 designs, u guys help me pick one, personally I like #1, #2 and #4. Some of the specific mods include the triclops NVGs, a 3 LED light on the helmet and the Halo ODST style leg and thigh armor. The buy'ce is hopefully an A'den Kyramuud custom that will be I hope very similar to the MS supercommando buckets that were released in limited quantity but are so popular. Anyhow... here it is, u guys help me pick the design, also check out my AFSOC mando thread and help me out over there, because that one is my primary armor set and WILL have precedense over this one. This suit is secondary to that suit and possibly even to Fi's armor, which I will have a thread up for when I get ready to start it... we'll just have to wait and see how it goes on the AFSOC suit first.

yeah I like #4 too but my wife likes #3, and I've already got the stuff to make the jumpsuit in grey... but I was thinking about selling the material to go buy the black stuff or to help pay for the AFSOC kit so...lol oh well, definately liking the urban pattern tho.

lol nah... I just like to have her input too. She basically designed her own armor tho... I just did the sketch she picked the colors and pattern. Which I need to resketch and get a thread going for it too. But I'm going to have to wait to start hers 'til we get moved because of the logistics of moving my shop, and all the materials to build with, and my furniture, and my... "man toys" as my wife calls them.

Nevu, the only reason you didnt see any Tan Camo in COD4 is because the SAS in COD4 were the Counter-Terror division, and they wore the black-kit. Tan Camo is used for the regulare SAS, the ones that fight with the ordinairy troops in Afganhistan or wherever those brave souls are right now.

hehe Kal'ika, if you ever come to England, visit Herefordshire, where the SAS are based. Walk into a local bar and you'll run into at least 30,000,000,000 SAS members. Most are sergeants.

    Re: SAS Mando

ok this is posted in my other thread as well... but I need help from my vode! I am going to be working on some new custom gauntlets... saw some stuff over on the mandalorian mercs where a vod scratchbuilt his gaunts from cardboard boxes and made 'em look good. That's what I'm going to try, using cardboard this time instead of the dang plastic signs. So... I need a few bits of wisdom and knowledge from you:

    1. When glassing... what's the best way to go about it? I want to be able to glass it and keep my level of detail, so how do I need to set that up? Exagerate the details or what?

    2. I want to use a Nerf Maverick to dissassemble and attach to the top in a rebuilt tri-shot configuration (will sketch and show later). I want to be able to rig this thing up so that it will still be able to shoot darts... from all 3 barrels! So I need help figuring out how exactly to do this and make it look good.

    3. I want to add some Predator blades to my gaunts that I can sling out and they will not lock, but will sort of friction lock themselves into the closed position until deliberately opened, sort of like a collapsible baton only it will not lock itself into the extended position, I want to be as safe as humanly possible while still looking totally wicked.

    4. I need to be able to shape this stuff prior to glassing and still keep the shape, and I need to be able to attach a few hoses here and there for proper appearance, what's the best way to achieve both.

    5. The left gauntlet will also have a built in LED flashlight ($20 @ Walmart) to provide "tactical illumination" and I need help figuring out how to attach it while still having the ability to change the batteries and bulbs if I need to.

    6. Anyone want to do this for me?!! lol jk jk, Any other suggestions you may have that I have overlooked or am unaware I need to be asking about... feel free to add it in!

    V/R,

    Kal Waco

hmm... yeah I'll be using PART of that technique! I don't want to attach anything directly to my hand, I want the whole rig to be self enclosed in the gaunt, however I think I can figure out a way to do it otherwise... just need to figure out a way to sync 2 blades on opposite sides of the tri-shot.

    Re: SAS Mando

as for a literal description... SAS is the British Special Air Service, or in Austrailia and many other former British colonies (SASR) Special Air Service Regiment. They are the Royal Army special operations guys. They are analogous to US Special Forces, while the SBS (Special Boats Squadrons) are the Royal Navy/Royal Marines version, more analogous to SEALs or Marine Force Recon. The SAS also has an elite squad within the elite who specialize in Counter-Terrorism, I can't remember their name off the top of my head but they're equivalent to the US Special Forces Operational Detachment- Delta aka Delta Force or SEAL Team Six aka DevGroup (who call themselves Jedi). That's SAS in a nutshell... I could go on forever.

The specialist group, are you referring to CRW perhaps? Counter Revolutionary Warfare team. Basically, all the Sabre squadrons (the fighting platoons of the SAS), from time to time, have a team on CRW duty. Always 2 teams, one on standby, one in reserve doing CT training.

As of history things, the SAS started out in the deserts of Africa, in 1942.

Didn't know they were called CRW... thanks! As for their WWII stint in Africa... yeah I know, just didn't want to give a rediculously long history lesson on here. Had to do one of my thesis papers on the effectiveness of the SAS and other "specialized" organizations in college. Tough guys, all of 'em. Much respect to the SAS guys, that's why I'm making a mando to honor them!

Sweet. History lesson would have been cool. I've never played any COD because I don't have a gaming system. Course that never stopped me from playing halo i guess, but Halo is a multi person per system friends game, COD isn't.

    Anyway thanks for the info!

BTW... figured out that I'm proally going to build a modded A280/295 carbine or use some kind of rebuilt M4 carbine to build the rifle, I thought about using a modded P90 or MP5SD but decided the M4 will probably work just as well. Any thoughts?

Actually on most systems COD4 has a split screen multiplayer that can support up to 4 players... maybe more but I haven't tried it.

    Re: SAS Mando

lol sorry Lev'ika... A280 is the Rebel Endor Rifle, A295 is the Rebel Hoth Rifle (I think I got that right) They're almost identical, but one is built on the WWII German Stg44 whereas the other is built on the American M16. The amazing thing is... they're very hard to tell apart. I want to do something like that maybe... only with a grenade or det launcher of some kind, or use a P90 (I think almost everybody knows the P90) which can be substituted with a Nerf Firefly. I thought about building off of the MP5SD (See the COD screen shot above) but don't think I like that idea as much.

I'm quite the history buff myself, and specifically military history.

IMO, SAS is one (if not THE) of the best SF units out there.

Build off of a p90 or an m4 would be sweet. I've got of of those same nerf guns and have been planning on modding it in a similar way for a good while. Great minds think alike, eh?

Ok vode I've decided I'm going to have hard pannel mag and sidearm points on the actual thigh armor pannels... so instead of the MOLLE webbing, I'm basically going to make built in mag pouches and holsters on the leg armor. This is going to carry over to my AFSOC mando as well. Also, I'm considering rolling these two mandos into one. Not sure about that yet.

lol yeah that one's gone... MOST of it remains tho! lol a lot of the stuff used on that mando is being rolled in to these 2, btw... the SAS mando will wear the Shemagh too, green and black even if the rest of his armor is black and grey.

I like the hard panel holster idea! I'm not sure built in mag pockets though, wouldn't it just be easier to have them in an ammo belt?

    Re: SAS Mando

yes and no... it is more natural to draw from the outer thigh... so having the mags on the leg allow for a faster, more natural motion, and it also brings them down out of line with anything that may be hanging from your vest... i.e. plates, mag pouches etc... I use thigh rigs for my match rifle and the one advantage I have over other shooters is speed in reloads. Not to mention, it gives me the ability to carry more ammo and to carry my spare mags/grenades comfortably (distributes the weight better) even if I don't have my vest on.

oh dear manda, that dikutla tv show (spongebob) is one of the worst creations of modern man. I don't allow my 4 yr old to watch it because I want her to be intelligent, whereas watching spongebob causes an average braincell loss of 50 per episode and an IQ drop of 10 pts per episode. That show is some of the most dikutla osik on the shebse of society. Ok, now that I've cursed fluently in mando'a...lmao getting ready to go on my TDY, which cost me a lot of money to get ready for. When I return I will be moving. Once I'm established at my new duty station I get most of the holidays to myself... which means time to get a few mandos built!

Sorry for thread jackin' ya Kal.
    I got one more:
ManRay: Excuse me, sir, but I believe you dropped your wallet.
Patrick: It doesn't look familiar to me.
ManRay: What? But I just saw you drop it. I am trying to be a good person, and return it to you.
    Patrick: Return what to who?
ManRay: [reaching into the wallet and pulling out Patrick's I.D] Are you a Mr. Patrick Star?
    Patrick: Yep.
ManRay: And this is your I.D.
    Patrick: Yep.
ManRay: I found this I.D. in this wallet, and therefore, this must be your wallet.
    Patrick: Makes sense to me.
    ManRay: So, take it.
    Patrick: It's not my wallet.
