Revamping my mando

Here it is, I have 2 Boba helmets, One by MLC(FiberGlass) and one By Fang. Now, here is the issue...I have recently been using my Fang helmet more since I got it and painted it a lil better than my MLC. To be honest, it is the cat scratch that I messed up on by making it about twice as big... While I love both helmets, I have debated re-doing my custom mando, and being I hate using Rubies anymore...I wonder if while I am not using my MLC as much because I painted it diff. What if I were to repaint the helmet to my custom? Only thing that worries me, is something goes wrong with my SGT fang(almost got destroyed my first outing with the new fang helm when a drunk slammed his hand onto the top of my helmet, but didn't break) and I need a Boba Helmet to use...but, I also don't wanna just have my helmet sitting there, doing nothing important. I have thought of just buying another fang to make the custom from...but I just don't know...

Buy another Fang if your concerned about a backup. Use the MLC for the custom since you will sand it down anyway.

Main reason I am thinking of this is because of Dragon Con. I am taking down 3 costumes, but was considering substituting the one with my custom mando. Being I have about 2 weeks to crunch in any work on it. My decision has to be relatively soon. If I use most of the parts from my original custom, I have a jumpsuit, boots, Gloves, Chest armor, shoulder, knees, armor pieces that make up for the gauntlets. I may need to make another cod for it. Or make a different style cod like a leather flap in place of it. So the helmet, vest, and a new cape is what I would need to put together as well...But my armor pieces are sheet metal, some edges are a pointy and get caught on passer-byers

Here is what the old stuff mostly looked like

I am gonna scrap the thigh and shin armor and change the cape to either black or blue, and make it shorter.

I was considering doing new armor pieces to probably some plastic, obviously real easy to make and repaint.

It is either cram the work in 2 weeks, or wait til after D*con to get another backup and take my time. But I do seem to work better when I have little time to do stuff.

Any thoughts?

Purhaps I should get a mod to move this to dented variants now that it is in progress...

Lol, I didn't post last night on my progress...

It is amazing what you can do in a matter of a few hours...(by few hours I mean, getting home from work and starting at about 6pm...and ending at about 10:30pm, which includes a half hour trip to pick up more primer)...I had cleaned up my MLC, Cut out new armor pieces(Chest, neck, shoulders) Painted the new pieces and did most of the damages, repainted the helmet along with the battle damage, just got to weather them.

I just am rethinking the cod...my wondering is, should I do a normal cod, or do something like a flap, kinda like the Imperial Knights? As you see in my pic up, my cod in that is just flat, no bend at the bottom like a normal Boba cod.

At this rate I will be done very soon, just gotta sew on velcro to the vest, put the cape together, make knees, figure out the cod and a piece of armor for where the gauntlets go, like in the pic above.

am loving those boots dude, they look great.

Soft Leather Holsters are a good idea too, you don't see many people take that road, nicely done

Actually they are more of a vinyl material. I was using them for my SOTE Coruscant Guard as the poutches on the legs. I figured, the holsters worked great for the guns. The boots were a pair of motorcycle boots, not sure where they came from, I just always liked how they looked and figured they work out great.

yeah i agree with nass...the weathering is a little iffy...but over all it looks pretty good man....you used tooth paste of soemthing for the weathering didnt ya...my first attempt at toothpasting my weathering in came out similar to that....i much prefer doing topical weathering....it takes a while longer...but i prefer the end result!...though i have done some toothpasting on a friend of mines armour that came out VERY nice!

Hmmm your MLC looks a little smaller than both of mine. Is it a MLC 2?

I like the shoulders for knees too they came out pretty good!

I am not 100% sure which version of the MLC it is.

The knees aren't the same as the shoulders, they were just a custom made piece for knees that work a little better.

Now by the weathering are you refering to the battle damage? Because I look at weathering more as the dirtying up. And the battle damage as the chipped paint. If that is the case, yeah, I just kinda put it together and wasn't concerned as much about how it spread out. Some spots it looked ok, others not as much.

Well, this was a huge overhaul...Only thing that remains the same is the jumpsuit, boots, and maybe some elastic straps.

I had upgraded from a Rubies Jango, to my old MLC Boba.
Aluminum sharp and dangerous pieces to all new safe plastic pieces.
From a Vinyl vest made by me, to a RA boba vest, heavily weathered.
Bad plastic cod, to a fiberglass cod.
Horribly long bad colored cape to a shorter black weathered cape.
Mechanics gloves to a new set of just black mechanics gloves.
Bad sash to a vinyl like sash with attaching holster pockets.
Former horrible EE3 to 2 awesome mavrick nerf pistols.
Jumpsuit was obviously good enough to still use.
Boots, obviously.
Elastic straps...why make new ones if you can reuse them?

As far as I can see, aside maybe some battle damage touching up, it is complete. If I add anything else to it, I do. But I like it as is, not too much on me but not too less of stuff on me!
