    Dec 20, 2016, 3:02 AM - Rangefinder/Back-facing cameras? #1

Hi, this is my first post here, figured I'd give it a go. I'm ordering my first bu'cye and plan to tweak it abit (season 4/5 Pre Visla premade helmet, but plan to replace the right com/earpiece thing with an RF) and in planning my new starter helmet, I came up with a few ideas. I was wondering how much other mando'ade have integrated electronics into their own buckets so I could find out if my thoughts were viable.

I'd like to gut either a Bluetooth or wired headset so I can connect my phone and take calls while wearing my bucket, which I feel is pretty mellow and doable, but it's my second thought that I wanted feedback on; RF and/or back facing cameras.

My thought was to rip apart a cheapish phone with dual cameras and mount one on the top of the RF so I could get a zoomed view, and the second to the backside of the RF so that when it's up, I have vision behind me, like the cannon helmets are capable of. I then thought it would be difficult to switch between RF and back cameras, so I thought what if I use two separate cameras, one on the RF and one in the center back of the helmet. I planned to mount the screens about where the cheek would be, just below the main part of the T visor, so that I could be able to see the cameras in my periphery, but I'm not sure how much room is in a normal bucket or if it would have to be abit larger overall to provide enough space for my eyes to be able to see something at that angle.

I also had the thought to make a life-size R4 that could be controlled with a gutted RC car, heavy-duty enough to give it some speed. The thought was I could install the joystick/controller guts in my gauntlet to pilot it around. I also considered a possible app-run RC car, if I could find one heavy-duty enough for it.

I'd really like to hear what other builders have tried and if it's actually worth looking into. I only plan to get my bucket painted and padded for right now, but I'd love to be able to have a sweet, high tech bu'cye for myself.

You could use only one camera if the Rangefinder could face backwards too like Jango's.

I have no ewxperience on webcams, but I think it might be an overkill project for Arduino, you'll need a Raspberry Pi Zero.

So I had an epiphany in the shower on how to make it alot easier. I could probably just find a bluetooth webcam/selfie camera or something and mount it somehow in the helmet, then have my gauntlet have a slot for my cell phone, allowing me to check it instead of putting bulky, flat screens in a rounded helmet, likely out of range of my eyes. The only trick will be finding one that will connect to my phone for not too much.

You could try one of these:

It's a wired option, but way easier and cheaper.

Thanks for the tip. I may decide to pop that in for awhile before I find a good way of having multiple wireless cameras, but it's a good first step.

Do you have any wireless camera on mind? Because all I can find is way too big.

It was more of a concept than a full on idea. I figured I'd have to rip the guts out of a bluetooth webcam or something to get it reasonably installed.

As always, someone on the internet already did it, take a look at this:
