    Question: kama and soft parts

I'm new to costuming (sorta) and am trying to assemble a full kama and shoulder cape for my armor. I need some advice: what material should I use and how should I weather/distress/battle-damage it?

    Any help is appreciated.

Make sure that it is a heavy material so that it will lay properly. A US Army half shelter is perfect for this, as that is what Boba Fett wore in ROTJ.

I weathered it with cuts, sandpaper, fire and paint. I literally used a lighter to light the thing on fire and then put it out to have "blaster holes". I also used some brown, gray and black paint to mist the fabric and give it some dirt.

You can usually find a half shelter fairly easily at a surplus store. It is basically just a heavy green canvas. Another option it to go to home depot and buy a canvas drop clothe then dye it and weather it.....if you want a color other than green.

Thank you very much. I had considered using a blow torch to create blaster holes, but I didn't know if anyone had ever tried it. I currently have a light green piece of heavy cloth (was a former window drape) that I am going to use. Thanks!

Re: Question: kama and soft parts

My next question concerns the flak jacket. I have a leather coat that I have converted, but it is currently waaayy too large. I thought about cutting a line from the armpit down and finding a way to take out the slack in the leather. This is where I'm stuck, can anyone reccommend a method for attaching and tightening the two flaps on the side? Thanks!

I use a simple zipper on one side. The other side is sewn... You can cover the zipper with a flap of left-over leather.

You can use a velcro closure on the sides. That is the way that Jango has his.

Can anyone recommend a method for attaching the lower lip to the main front plate on jango knee armor? I'm stuck here too. Any advice on guantlets, or where to get them fairly inexpensively? Is there anyone I could get some from for $50-? Thanks guys.

TK2280 has some nice clamshell gaunts for cheap. You would have to build them up but that's what we do...lol checkout his posts in the cargo hold
