Precentorjames' armor

James,

Great work so far. But I must tell you that the velcro will not hold, and will give out at the worst possible times...trust me on this. Ask anyone, and they will tell you that snaps, backed up by some velcro is the way to go.

If you need a photo reference...let me know.

Keep up the good work.

Jodo Kast 3:Thanks! I improve it a little bit every time I have a day off...and I have Tuesday, so it will hopefully come along a little more tomorrow! Yeah, I am starting to sorta get that about the Velcro. I knew from cruising the boba boards that it was not the prefered method, and it was sort of cramping my style even during the test fitting. The problem did not really seem to be the velcro itself but that the velcro bond was stronger than the backing holding it to the vest. It might be a little better once the adhesive has had a chance to cure, but I still see it being problematic.

Like I said, this is only a start. As I get better at this, and as free funds build, I plan on upgrading parts on a continual basis.

"You haven't seen the last of me, JOE!" (wave angry Cobra Commander fist.)

Ceric:That had occurred to me as well, but my cheapskate alarm went off. They do not sell the fuzzy part of velcro by itself (or vice versa) so I have to buy it as a set. I superglued the patches on the jumpsuit portion, which seems to have held fairly well. I have not tried the suit as a whole yet...so only time will tell.

On a progress report note: I found a cool belt buckle that looks like damaged armor plating with a skull and crossbones sculpted on it. I attached it to the 2" leather belt that came with my blackpowder holsters, and I am in the progress of dying the belt white. Pics and more progress on the way. Stay Tuned...

Just some ideas; :)
That white stuff on the black shirt, can it be colored black?
and if you mark the borders of that neat jolly roger with black or a darker red it will stand out better.

I like the red. Keep posting, I want to see more :p

Yeah. I am going to color the velcro patches black. Was not planning to originally, but then during the test fitting I saw how much it showed. Was waiting until the adhesive cured though. Then my day job intruded into my glorious crusade. It does that. Hopefully have a better job soon though, and then the armor will really take off.

I keep taking progress pics, but they are on three different cameras, one of which is an ancient 35mm, which has to be developed before I post. That's why the progress pics sort of seem to come all in a clump, versus when I actually do them. I have a day off tomorrow...so hopefully more to come soon!
